What a wonderful place! Massive views of Yorkshire, located in one of the best kept villages I've ever driven through.
The owner showed us to our pitch and later offered information on where to visit. The toilet block looks to have new power showers installed, better than anything I've seen on a small country park.
The pub food is way better than most pubs Lobster to steak pie, a real treat if you want to celebrate an occasion, you don't have to stay in a hotel to have good food just take your caravan to this place.
We have booked in for later in the year with our friends, they are staying the Luxury rooms at the pub.
It's not the cheapest place I've ever stayed at but the pitches are big and not overcrowded.
As they say its an ideal place to stay and explore the Yorkshire dales.

I do not often write reviews, however, thought it is my duty to share my experience over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
The good points:
Good walks both from the site and around the area. Good location, could be made into a good site.
Bistro at Black Sheep brewery about 3 miles from site excellent, as was Theakston brewery pub.
They had started to renovate the facilities - only managed to upgrade 1 shower - but unless cleaned this will have little effect
The bad points:
Basically the toilet block was not acceptable. The fact that there are only 2 showers, or that the facilities are dated were not a problem on there own. My concern was the cleanliness of the toilets. To be frank they were so dirty we chose to leave the site cutting our break short after the first day.
I did share my concerns with hygiene with the manager at the attached bar - they believed the facilities were of good general hygiene and acceptable.

We stayed one night passing through however we considered moving and paying for another site within an hour of getting there.
The site is on a slope with hardly any level pitches,
The toilets were being worked on most of the time so we had to use the toilets in the pub on site, when the toilets and shower were available they were filthy and very poor
The site is over priced
However the the food in the pub was very good

Visited for annual trip to Yorkshire with group of friends. Thought we we're due a reasonably priced weekend which included a £10 Bar Voucher. Never got the Vouchers until the Saturday afternoon, went to bar only to be informed that Vouchers could only be used for Food, as we'd already eaten I tried to book breakfast for the Sunday morning, informed that vouchers were not valid for Breakfast, checked terms and conditions on website which did not mention this.
Toilets - Where do I start? NO LIGHTING, apart from a candle, yes a candle! Stumbled out of toilet block trying to find way using my lighter. No Showers.

We camped here in January 2011 for the second year running - in 2010 the toilet block were ok (just). In 2011 the toilet block was horrible, no lights were working so you had to use a torch to use the toilet block
This site is not worth half what they charge. The bar staff were very helpful but the landlord was not so helpful.
The area of Masham is a very nice town and a very nice place to visit

Spent a weekend here in a sunny october, found the campsite to be expensive for what it is. Agree with previous reviews re the the toilet blocks but it was quiet whilst we were there!
Have young children and found it was dangerous to let them play out as the site seemed to have long stay campers who race around the camp site very fast! saying that the staff did say they had been spoken to. Staff in the pub lovely, although some of the waitress a little surly!
Didnt get the vouchers for money off the food though despite eating there for 2 evenings! Have to say despite this the food was fantastic and the views magnificent

Recently spent 2 nights at the Black Swan. The facilities were really basic, no playground or area for the kids to play football, the toilet block was small and needed a good clean and a makeover, showers were poor but free. The site was on a slope and because of the amount of caravans, all the tents were packed in like sardines at the bottom of the hill.
The area and views were beautiful and Masham is a quaint little village. A good pint was had at the Black Sheep Brewery though!
Overall an expensive site for the weekend.

We have just returned from this site. Having read the reviews I was very worried and emailed before we went. They did state that the toilet block is due a refurb this winter.
My first point is that if I had only paid £20 or under for this site I would have been happy. So my main issue really that it is no way worth the £30 nor a 4* site as they said (don't know who reviewed them but it clearly is NOT!).
Onto the site. Its on a slope which isn't a problem. The tents were packed in and literally less than a metre apart in places.
The toilet block was ok, they ran out of loo roll but replaced within the hour. One toilet a bit rickety but hey its usable.
I heard lots of people complaining so think the staff may have got it in the neck more than once this weekend which is a shame. Mainly as the shower water stopped.
There aren't enough toilets or showers. But they were usable.
The staff in the pub were extremely friendly as was the old gent who met us on arrival. The breakfast was fantastic. We didn't use our £5 food voucher as you have to use it for a lunch or evening meal but our friends did and said that was lovely too.
I have two kids under 5 and although there was nothing to do it wasn't an issue.
Overall, if they did the toilet block up and reduced the price they would get much happier customers.

We stayed here the first weekend in august (fri-sun).We booked here before reading the reviews so saying we were a little worried after reading them was an understatement. But as the old saying goes don't believe everything you read.We got our pitch half way down on the right of the field which only had a slight slope so wasn't a problem. The site itself has a relaxed atmosphere and the views are great from the top of the field. The pitches are marked out by the electric hook points and even though we have got a wide tent and a family car the space was adequate.
The toilet facilities are a bit run down and could do with a facelift, and though the showers are weak they are nice and hot so it just takes longer to get showered.
The Black Swan Inn is a pub with friendly helpful staff and has a lovely outdoor terrace with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. We had a sandwich there at lunchtime
Which was nice and a really tasty evening meal - look out for the chefs specials board.
The site is a few miles outside of Masham and quite difficult to walk to unless you are a keen rambler. The roadway can be dangerous to walk as no footpaths.
The site has no facilities for children. This is not the best site we have stayed on but by no means the worst and we would return without hesitation which speaks volumes.P.S take some earplugs if you are a light sleeper cos the rabbits and hedgehogs come out in force during the night.

Fantastic views.
That's the good news. The site was over crowded with tents actually touching each other on some pitches Whilst I acknowledge it was the weekend the degree of overcrowding was unbelievable. The fees were expensive and although this included a five pound voucher for pub food this was well over priced for the quality on offer.
The facilities well below standard with only three loos for the whole sit and two inadequate and grubby showers. Problems with unruly dogs.
All in all a very disappointing experience not to be repeated.
