This site is all about Location, set high on a hill over looking the grazing meadows for 40 miles.

The site is sloping, with terraces either paved or compacted gravel. Electric hook ups.

When we arrived during the week the location and quietness was our main focus, disregarding the out dated washing block ( 2 poor shower cubicles, 3 toilets, one which was loose to the floor) an 'adequate' elsan point.

On the weekend, there seemed to be a free for all on the newly arrived caravans, pitching randomly on the centre grassed areas, this influx caused a heavy demand on the shower facilities and the waste bins (overflowing with the lids open and smelling)

There was a £5.00 voucher per night to eat at the pub, but this seemed to oblige you to eat there as the cost of pitch was expensive for the facilities provided.

Location, Location, Location.

For the site location and the views can't fault it. Friendly welcome on arrival and shown to a decent sized marked out plot. Bit of slope at the top end but was nothing exceptional and was perfectly fine.

Pity about the price per night which really did not reflect good value for money, £27. 00 per night with a £5. 00 per night off food voucher to be used at the on site pub. Have stayed at similar and better for half the price. However the prices didn't put people off as it was very busy come the weekend.

Plenty of room on first midweek night for children to play in grassy central island. Lots of friendly nice children and felt safe on site to let children go and explore as the site is very small. Disapointing though that there was no designated play area, as by Friday night the area was crammed with more tents and our reasonably decent plot was also taken over and also was now cramped.

As for the facilities, loos and showers pretty clean, loo roll constantly topped up and guy in and out cleaning/ topping up (though wonder why in and out so much in the ladies at peak times!) despite only being 2 showers per sex and the site being very busy we didn't have to queue at all. Water pressure in shower a bit poor, on a cheap site to be expected but not at premium rates.

Only 2 washing up sinks, not the cleanest when I visited but adequate.

The pub: we used the £5. 00 vouchers toward childs meals, (no childs menu, smaller portions of adult meals which I like as adds variety for the little ones), however, not fantastic food at all for the money and would not go there specially to eat, but convenient when camping. Average pub fair but at top prices, £9. 00 upwards for chick n flick food. Lager £3. 10 a pint. Some families with older children very unhappy as no children allowed inside after 7. 30pm, even when it is quiet.

Pool table inside sat empty and families left early to find their own entertainment. Think if they are going to advertise as a family site with a bar on site at least allow older children in past 7. 30. Didn't see any parent drinking irresponsibly so not sure why the rule applies.

Mid week the site was quiet by 10. 00. I'm not an early to bed sort but it was good for a family site for those that do like to retire at a reasonable hour. However come the weekend there were large groups on site. Generally not overly noisy until very late, quiet by around midnight, however they started up again at 6am, ok for me but not when you have children and grown ups who need their sleep.

Overall, could be a lovely family friendly small site, but its a pity it is over priced with far from perfect facilities.

Great location. Enjoyed a 3 night break with friends but found the smell of sewage a little overpowering! We were situated at the bottom of the site and this was where the smell was far worse. The toilets and showers were clean to an extent but the showers were pathetic- but free and only 2 per sex.

We were given a £5 voucher for food in the Black Swan per night we stayed and used the £15 per couple on the first night. If we had paid for that food, we would have sent it back. It arrived at our table within 5 minutes- quick I know, but a little too quick for 'fresh' food! Pub was very expensive and the cost to camp was very expensive for the facilities they had to offer.

Found the site to be overpriced at £35 per night, on top of that the pitches were sloping, no room to sit outside.

The washroom and toilets were inadequate for the number of pitches and showed no sign of having been cleaned. The electric kept going off

The pub was also expensive and the food and drink was expensive (£10 for a very average sausage and mash)

The focus seemed to be on building the extension to the pub as this had taken over the beer garden and children's play area

First time camping for some time. Staff gave us a warm welcome. Views fantastic and pitched tent so slope was not a major problem.

Pitches very small and site was noisy on Friday and Saturday. Facilities were all there but shower and toilet area appeared not to be cleaned for the three days we were there. Also shower pressure very poor. If facilities cleaned up or refurbished then would return.

As stated by other review, rubbish disposal point was a mess.

However, despite down sides, view and walks brilliant and dogs had a good time.

Very Friendly Staff and decent pint of cider. Be aware it is very expensive per night. Pitches are on steep slope which you need chocks and additional packing for legs.

Restaurant very homely but meals let the side down. 1st Night excellent steak and salad but chips sad and greasy. Thought I'd give it second chance and following night ordered Strogonoff with rice. Got Strogonoff and sad chips again, wife got a lousy Chili and Rice.

So apart from overpriced pitch, (£24 a night) requiring Sherpa Tensing to assist in setting up and poor food it was OK.

We chose this site over another in the area because the other stated they had slightly sloping pitches. I had asked for a level pitch when I booked but were sited on the exact opposite. I was unable to put the legs down at the rear of the van while the tow hitch was the height of the bonnet on the 4x4 that I use to tow. This resulted in the van rocking at the front no matter what I did to try to rectify it.

The toilets ran out of paper on two occasions and only one of the two showers worked. This was also the case in the ladies block. The distance between units was disregarded as the tents were put virtually anywhere there was a spare blade of grass. The bin area next to the pub was overflowing when we arrived on the Friday so by the time the bins were emptied on the Monday the whole area was a mass of black bin bags and carrier bags full of rubbish. Not to mention the two fridge freezers that were also dumped there.

The pot washing area with the waste emptying drain right next to it was a stoke of architectural genius. When the wastemaster was emptied the flow overwhelmed the drains capacity and the people washing their pots and pans got wet feet.

Don't get me wrong this is a lovely part of the world and the views from this site and it's location are lovely. The pub is also very nice and the Black Sheep real ales are kept to a very high standard. The staff are friendly too

All of the reviews here have good and bad things to say about the site. The location is good with easy access to all of North Yorkshires finest features.

If you want a site next to a pub, don't mind paying for the privilege and don't mind the noise then this is the site for you! I like a pint of real ale but not enough to return here.

The pub is promoted to you from the leaflet you get upon arrival, to the posters which adorn the walls of the toilet/shower block.

The camp fees are high given the small pitches and I've certainly paid less for much better facilities (only 2 washing up basins, tiny showers with poor water pressure, toilets and shower block is clean but really needs a little refurbishment).

If the site is not full then you may be allowed to spread out a bit. We had booked Weds/Thurs Fri night and the site was fully booked up from Friday night onwards. We were therefore allocated a tiny pitch which had big holes and dips all over it. The manager seemed to think this was reasonable because this was where caravanners had dug holes to level up their wheels (the whole site is on a slope).

As he took our cash (they don't take cards unless you pay at the pub and then they'll only do cashback over £25) we were told that it would get very full and (in the manager's words) he 'couldn't guarantee that we wouldn't be disturbed at night by noisy neighbours until midnight'.

After this we didn't see the manager very much apart from to inform him we wouldn't be staying for the 3rd night!

No facilities for kids.

Lovely views from this site, the pub is good (although not amazing), and Fearby is a very pretty village.

However, this site is overpriced, particularly at weekends in high season. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were disappointed because the site was virtually full and very cramped. We were given the choice of pitch: a narrow hard standing for a caravan, with a sloping piece of grass next to it, or the spot right next to the pub.

The owner tried to charge us the Saturday rate for the Sunday night as well

The last whinge is that, in spite of the high prices, the showers are not free. Not only that, they are pathetically puny.

We agree with the recent post about the overgrown or disappearing footpaths: we ended up walking to Masham along the road as well, braving the bends and the speeding traffic.

Toilets, Showers etc were of a low standard and were poorly maintained and cleaned. Same goes for rubbish disposal areas. Site pitches expensive for what you got and all on a slope downhill. There were beautiful views and walks and all good local services in Masham we bought some good sausages from the butchers there which were great.
