Returned for a second visit to this summer, this time we tested out the electric pitches. Our pitch was a good size for our medium sized family tent, a kitchen tent and our car. It was also impressively flat.
We struggled a little with some tree roots and used a few rock pegs to overcome this.
We also heard the rooks/crows, the donkeys, the cockerel, the geese and the buzzards but we loved it it made us laugh and didn't disturb us (ok the crow/rooks did a little). We live in a city so it made a nice change from planes and sirens. We did hear more road noise on this pitch compared to the non electric field but it went quiet at night so wasn't really an issue.
Again the facilities were spotless and warm. The site was quiet as it was the last week of the holiday for us and many children were back at school so we sometimes had the pool to ourselves which was lovely.
The staff were friendly and helpful when we were looking for places to eat.
We visited St Michaels mount on a day when the gardens were open and really enjoyed it, we also went to St Ives on the train from St Erth. We went to some lovely beaches including Sennen cove and Porthcurno which was stunning. We were going to visit the Jubilee pool in Penzance but thought it was expensive so we swam from the promenade with the local children which was free and great fun.
We will definitely be back to the area and will stay at Wheal Rodney again.

Just returned from a lovely long week end (thurs-mon) at Wheal Rodney.
Very nice site. We didn't hear any crows or donkeys as other people have mentioned, we did hear the road noise as we don't live by a road, but after the first night we got used to it.
The facilities were first class and it almost felt like glamping !
We had two family pitches at the top of the camping meadow as our tent is very large. It came with a washing line - very handy !
The laundry was great and so nice to wash up indoors !
The ladies showers/toilets were just lovely. Ample hot water (free showers)there is a dressing/make up area which has hair dryers and a socket for your hair straighteners ! which was just great !
The pool really was like bath water and unlike when I normally take the kids swimming and they turn blue after 20mins at this pool they stayed in there for 60-90 mins at a time - twice a day !
My only one gripe was that there was no toilet in the pool so you would have to all get out the pool dry off put your shoes on to then go to the toilet then all traipse back to the pool again and hope another child didn't need to go by the time you got back !
The corridor to the facilities was packed wit information about the local area and had games and books to borrow.
Trebah was great to visit and the kings arms was lovely for food. I personally would avoid the Fire engine inn at all costs, it was vile, over priced and pretty much self service.

Great campsite as previous reviews have said.
Camped on pitch 6 which was quiet with a good view of an open field (watched an hawk most mornings- hunting)
The crows make a bit of noise, but is drowned out by the donkeys (just joking we hardly noticed it)
Good walks from the campsite, one alongside the camping field then over 2 small fields to a lane that takes you down to Marazion town.
If you walk along the road the other way you come out on the other side of town but if you turn left at the pub and walk up the road 200mts you will see a sign for the coastal path with some great views and coves to explore.
The pasties are great from the shop in town, just do not leave them in the tent as we had a pastie pincher (4 legs I think).
I would recommend this site and will be returning myself, maybe to try one of the lodges next time.

A small friendly site with good level pitches with electric hook up. Also a small field for tents. There are also chalets to rent. Facilities are more than adequate for size of site and there is a heated indoor pool. On the downside, the gents showers were very cramped. It was difficult to keep clothes dry because of lack of hangers and the plumbing stuck out from the wall putting it in the way when showering. I accidentally knocked the hot water tap several times and ended up with a cold shower. Also the shower in the gents pool changing room was not working so unable to shower after a swim.

Spent 3 nights at Wheal Rodney at the beginning of the school holidays, some friends were already staying and I took the opportunity to join them. We camped on the non electric field which was lovely and had plenty of space for the tents and for the children to play.
We loved the pool and the facilities we more than good enough for us. The toilets were always clean and the showers were hot.
We hadn't been to the area before and it was nice to explore, there is lots to do nearby. So much so that we have booked to go back for the last bit of the school holidays.

I was very impressed with the site. It's small but has everything you could possibly need. The staff were all approachable, friendly and helpful as were the resident pets. The facilities were excellent and all very clean, shop well stocked with the essentials. My children loved the swimming pool and there were games and books available to borrow. Plenty of information easily accessible covering everything from tide times and weather to local restaurants and taxis. Within walking distance of marazion and all it has to offer. I would highly recommend this site.

The camping field was fairly small, reasonably flat with adequate space for each pitch. The grass was kept cut short. Some pitches were shaded by tall trees. There was a single water point where you accessed the field but this was quite adequate.
The block with facilities was very good. It had a small swimming pool (popular with parents with young children) which warmed the washroom area - a benefit during my six night stay when the weather was not particularly warm. There was unlimited hot water and electric shaver points.
There was a room for washing up, with a washing machine and tumble dryer together with a microwave.
I particularly appreciated the extensive amount of well displayed tourist information available displayed both on the walls and in leaflet holders. The staff were also helpful and were willing to charge up my camera battery and give advice.
There are basics available in their shop although I shopped in supermarkets near Penzance.
Marazion is a town with great character and when the sun shines a walk along the 400 yard causeway to St Michael's Mount (an island when the tide is in) is something not to be missed. Look back over to Marazion from one of the cafe's on the island - quite idyllic and in the evening sit in the pub in Marazion and look back out over St. Michaels Mount.
I also used Wheal Rodney as a very convenient base for visits to St. Ives, the Lizard Peninsula, and for the area around Lands End (Penwith Peninsula).
I paid £12 and felt happy with the price. I would use the site again.

An excellent site in a good location for visiting all that West Cornwall has to offer. Within easy walking distance of Marazion and St Michaels Mount. Local cafe's and pubs within easy walking distance, and supermarket a short drive away.
Pitches level. Newly refurbished ladies facilities are EXCELLENT, showers spacious and HOORAY plenty of clothes hooks! Once men's facilities are furnished score will be 10/10!
We were only there 3 nights but will certainly return.

Just to reiterate what others have been saying:-
Site location - definitely follow the directions on their website if you are towing. The back road may seem a bit narrow in places, but Marazion itself would be very difficult to navigate with a big 'van and their suggested route minimises the pain.
Parking - Counter to what seems sensible, park on the ROAD and walk up to reception, as there is a 50:50 chance you will be put in the 1st caravan field in which case, the most logical place to park upon arrival will put you in an impossible position to drive onto the field without backing up a sizeable distance.
Pitch - If you are assigned Pitch 1 or Pitch 2 my suggestion to you is to refuse outright and ask for another. Pitch 2 is very difficult to get out of when the field is empty and I can't see that it is actually possible to get out when the field is full without having to then back out of the site onto the road. Pitch 1 will require serious levelling and will either be a major operation to get into, or get out. Confusingly, even in low season when the field is empty they seem to automatically put caravans on these two difficult pitches in preference to other pitches. I was assigned Pitch 2 on a nearly empty field and when I asked to move, I was shifted onto pitch 5 with no issue - ie why didn't they just put me on that pitch in the first place. In high season, I should stipulate as part of your booking that you don't want Pitch 1/2. Pitch 2 and 3 are also next to the road and mostly in shade, if that bothers people. Also you have to mount a low paving stone to get onto either of the camp fields - this gets churned up by motorhomes in poor weather and adds to your complications if you have a caravan.
Rooks - to be honest there were very few around. Perhaps they are all scared off now, or maybe they go somewhere else in Winter.
Road noise - yes there is a bit but personally I didn't find it troublesome.
Facilities - adequate, and yes the showers really are tiny! Though I paid low season fees and I'd be disappointed to pay high season fees for the same.
But (and this is a big but) staying at this site puts you within a 10-15min walk of St Michael's Mount, one of the prettiest places in the UK. Good food, pubs, shops and views. I get the impression Wheal Rodney wasn't designed by someone who camps with a caravan, and tourers are a definite after thought, but I believe that the downsides are worth it for the location.

Management response: Many thanks for reviewing the holiday park. Customer reviews are always welcomed. We are all delighted to hear that you enjoyed the location of the holiday park and the amenities of our beautiful little town. Wheal Rodney is not just in a great location for St Michaels Mount, but Land End and St Ives are both only approximately 15 minutes drive from here.
Pitch two has always been popular with guests and those with larger caravans simply pull out from the pitch and continue down our driveway to turn around at the top of the park. Early indications from 2013 bookings are already indicating that pitch number one is much sought after by regular guests next year. It is our largest electric hook up pitch and is nearly double the size of all the others. There is a level area to set up your vehicle and the additional space gives you a little bit more room for camping/touring accessories or for children to play. The size of the pitch and also the fact that it stands alone and does not have neighbouring pitches either side, is what makes this plot so attractive to our guests.
Thank you again for spending the time to review Wheal Rodney Holiday Park and we hope to see you again in the seasons ahead. |

I don't know how we managed it but we picked the best days at the end of July and had a wonderful 4 nights at Wheal Rodney, our first long camp having only done 1 or 2 nights before.
It was well worth the 3 hour drive from Bath. The site is ideally positioned for access to Land's End/St Michael's Mount and other attractions.
The pitches are ample sizes and flat, with the grounds well maintained, planted and tidy. Having small hedges in places helped break up the pitches.
It was great having the pool on site, which is warm like a bath.
The friendly owners are on hand to give helpful advice on where to visit and answer any queries.
We had the most wonderful time and will be booking again for next year and hope to bring some family along for the break.
For those like us new to the area, it would be worth following the A30 signs to Marazion as you come in along the town/sea front with a beautiful view of St Michael's Mount to your right and then turn left up a steep hill at the Fire Engine Pub.
