Spent 5 nights hear over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The site itself is located about a 15 minute walk from the main square in Marazion. From here, you can get one of the boats across to St. Michael’s Mount or at low tide, walk across to the island via the causeway. You can also catch a number of buses to various places around Cornwall or walk the approx. 2 miles around the bay to Penzance. One thing to note though is if you walk down to the village at night; make sure you take a torch as there are no street lights if you come back after dark. (If you’re after eating out, I can recommend the Godolphin Arms for a meal which, not only has views looking out over the bay but is also dog friendly throughout. )
The site itself is a mixture of grass touring pitches with hook-up, tenting field, chalet type accommodation to let and privately owned holiday homes. The facilities block contains the reception and a small shop, toilets / showers, dish wash, laundry and the swimming pool and the staff are always friendly. A bit of an off-putter is seeing buckets and towels on the floor along the corridor to the toilets / showers catching the water from the leaking roof – apparently it’s been like this for a few years. The showers are beginning to show their age and could do with refurbishing but there’s plenty of hot water. The pool itself is warm and was never busy but like the main showers, the changing facilities could do with an overhaul.
Overall, a nice quiet site which I think is the nearest one to St. Michael’s Mount and the area is well served by public transport for getting further afield without a car.
(A note for motorhomers - there is no drive over waste point for emptying your grey waste so make sure you take a bucket. )

Management response: Thank you for reviewing Wheal Rodney Holiday Park and all the staff are pleased that you enjoyed your stay here and found us all to be friendly too. Marazion is well known for its dog friendly pubs and a short stroll to the Godolphin Arms is a very popular activity with many of our guests.
As always, during the winter month we are continuing to up-grade the holiday park and look forward to regular guests returning to see the improvements. Unfortunately the skylight area did receive damage in high season but as with all things at the holiday park, we do our very best to resolve all problems as soon as they occur. In all situations we do whatever necessary for the safety and well-being of our guests.
We all look forward to seeing you again in the future and would like to thank you for reviewing the holiday park. |

Marazion is a lovely little place and the views of St Michaels Mount quite breathtaking. The site is situated so that there are many places easily accessible, Landsend, Penzance etc.
The site itself is nice, the pool lovely but the pitch we were on by the entrance was quite noisy with the lane being just behind the caravan and you could hear the main road.
Going onto the pitch was ok but trying the tow the caravan off and turn it to leave the site was quite a nightmare as there was nowhere to turn further up the site.
I found that the site wasn't that secure as while we were there a car came in front of our caravan and two youths got out with air rifles, possibly going rabbiting in one of the surrounding fields! Had a lovely hols but probably wouldn't return.

Lovely site, stayed in May with perfect weather, grass pitches are large and well sheltered. It is family friendly and has a nice indoor heated pool.
There is a large toilet block with warm showers and the reception has a good selection of essentials (Bread / milk etc) Staff are friendly and there is also lots of tourist info available.
The site is about a 10 - 15 minute walk into the town down a quiet country lane, which was ok for us with a pram. The town is lovely and all the pubs are family and dog friendly even in the evenings.
St Michaels Mount is also well worth a visit.
Would love to visit again.

From the outset, the staff were enthusiastic and very helpful and have exceptional knowledge of the area. They were very welcoming not only to us but also to our dog too by supplying his own welcome pack with treats, poo bags and lots of dog friendly information.
The facilities are fantastic, spotless and open 24 hours a day. The laundry provisions are reasonably priced and washing up areas are stocked and open to around 2100hrs. There also a small shop that stocks most essentials but if you need a bigger store, there are some in easy reach.
The tent meadow is pretty well sheltered and each pitch is big enough for a good size tent and a car. The only negative point is that underneath the lovely flat pitches, there is a substantial layer of tough Cornwall slate or rock, so good quality tent pegs, preferably with a point are recommended to break through the ground
The site is in an ideal location. Everything we wanted to see and do was within a 12 mile radius and good link roads made it easy to get to.
Although there is no restaurant or bar on site, there is a public house less than half a mile that serves great food and excellent local beers and Marazion is only 1. 5 miles away for more restaurants and bars.
If you're planning to holiday in Cornwall, Wheal Rodney should be your first place to look. We had a great time there.

We had a wonderful six days at Wheal Rodney. The campsite is spotlessly clean, quite well laid out and very very peaceful. Yes, there is road noise, but that is not as disturbing as the dawn chorus may be - we did not wake up early at all :-)
The staff are friendly and eager to assist in any way. Pay attention to instructions for arrival as not all routes are appropriate, you are told this - with a van, if it is your first visit stop at the entrance to the site and walk up to reception, in case your pitch is 1 - 7. The toilet block is cleaned regularly. I expect one of the main pluses is the heater (32c) swimming pool - free to use!
The location within Cornwall is excellent, and you can easily get to Marazion on foot or by the local bus, but a car is needed to explore further afield.
Penzance is very close as are a number of National Trust places. Wifi is available on site for £1 a day, but you need to be located near the shop to receive it (pitch 8 upwards).
We would certainly recommend this site to anyone.

We have been to Wheal Rodney 7 times in last 9 years (we only missed 2 years due to the births of our children!). We love the peace and quiet - it's a quiet after 10pm site and this makes it the ideal place to bring small children or for a couple wanting a peaceful retreat.
The toilets and showers are clean and well maintained - the showers in the ladies are powerful and hot and there is more than enough room to shower and dress in there - even with a small child in tow.
The wash facilities are great and recently upgraded - 2 sinks for washing up, 2 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers (£3 per wash and £1 per 20 minute tumble).
The small shop / reception is open from 9am and stocks most basics and a few treats for those with a sweet tooth!
If the weather does turn out to be less than great there is the fabulous indoor swimming pool - warm and ample space for changing and showering (a toilet in there would be great but apart from that it's a brilliant addition to the site). We swam every day this holiday and that's despite having lovely weather.
The staff have always been brilliant, helpful and friendly - we unfortunately had to make a complaint of a family group in a tent making a lot of noise one night past midnight (the first complaint in all our stays) and the matter was dealt with swiftly, discreetly and with the utmost professionalism.
Marazion itself is the most picturesque place - plenty of good pubs selling good beer, rattler cider and great food. Most pubs are dog friendly, as is the campsite - there are doggy beaches, walks from the site into Marazion and plenty of surrounding fields to take your doggy companions during your stay.
We took friends this year and they definitely want to return for a longer stay next year. We are already planning our 2012 trip!
Once you have been to Wheal Rodney you just want to keep coming back.
Note: Take good strong metal pegs - as described previously the camping meadow does have areas of hard bedrock and your normal tent pegs may not survive! We bought steel nail-type ones this year that did the trick brilliantly.

We have just returned from a 10nt break at this Park and had a really lovely time.
The site is in a great location with Marazion within walking distance (along a road with no pavements). It is really clean and with well maintained gardens and is really quiet and peaceful. Main supermarkets about a 5-10 minute drive on the main route into Penzance.
The staff were always very friendly and helpful. Before we went, like you, read the reviews and agree with others the showers are small, but it certainly wouldn't put me off at all. They are consistently hot, very powerful and we never had to queue waiting for one to be free.
The swimming pool was lovely and warm. We went in there a couple of times and never found it to be overly busy.
We were in Pitch 6 which was by the entrance to the park and couldn't fault it, it was spacious we had hedges/fences 3 sides of us and views over fields. All the pitches on the site are under trees so you do get the noise of birds in the morning but it was never a problem for us, no more than a normal dawn chorus.
There is no playground for the children but the site does offer a free loan of children's games / books etc.
We would love to return to this site in the future.

From the moment we rang to make the booking the staff at the site were friendly and helpful. The site is easy to find from either Marazion or the A30.
The pitches are numbered, large, level and the grass is well manicured - we had a pitch with electric hook up for 3 nights and one without for 1 night (our booking was extremely last minute!). When we moved our tent, the staff even offered to help us to carry it.
The toilet block is clean, warm, well maintained and the showers were warm & powerful - I've read previous comments about them being too small - admittedly they are quite small but not uncomfortably so (and how big does a shower cubicle need to be?!).
The facilities provided are first rate - there are washers, dryers and an iron available in the (indoor) washing up room and the staff even kindly provided communal washing up bowls, sponges & liquid when we were there which was really handy.
The indoor pool was a bonus (although I only used it once), once again it was warm and clean and extremely pleasant to use. The reception desk has a small shop (8. 30am-7. 30pm) which was really handy for milk & other necessities. The campsite is about 10mins by car from a Morrisons & a Tesco in Penzance for larger shopping hauls.
The site is about a ten minute walk from Marazion which has a couple of pubs, a small beach & a chippy and is a lovely place to wander of an evening.
The site was quiet when we were there (it was mostly adults, being out of school hols) but I imagine it's a lovely place to bring children although that might change the peaceful atmosphere of the place.
All in all, Wheal Rodney is a great place to stay, laid back and relaxed with certainly everything we needed and for a reasonable price. We'll certainly be going back.

Visited this site camping two adults and our dog for a week, our first time in Cornwall, I booked this site for the excellent location and swimming pool.
A warm welcome on arrival, the pitch No18 was a good size but I would strongly recommend good pegs as the grassy meadow was full of rocks,
all the facilities were excellent showers the best I have found, fantastic walks for dogs but £2. 00 per night per dog bit steep.
Disappointing part the pool opened at 10. 00am too late in the day and when it was open full of local residents with babies and young children, so did not get to use.
Lots of noise from the 50+ Rooks nesting in the trees may I suggest ear plugs and an air rifle !
