Just returned home from Carsington Water CC site. What a fantastic site peaceful and quiet even when busy we were there for ten days and enjoyed every one of them, we have a small dog and found the dog walk very useful, the views were stunning and the site was kept in tip top condition all of the time the facilities were second to none, a big thank you to the staff who keep it so. Hopefully will be planning another visit soon.
John & Maureen.

This was our first visit to this site for the easter break, very polite & helpful wardens on site. Toilet block very clean & well maintained as you would expect from a cc site as were the dishwashing area etc. Carsington water is only 2 mins away which is well worth a visit! as was ashbourne which is a 10 minute drive away. Cant wait to visit again

This was our first visit to a Caravan Club Site. It is a lovely clean and well kept site. The site is set amongst a lot of tall pine trees. The TV reception on the pitch we selected was excellent. The site is now covered by a strong wifi signal which is easy to access at a responsible price. The toilet/shower block is immaculate and very very clean, The wardens are helpful and friendly. The site is dog friendly and there is a nice woodland walk around the site and on towards Carsington Water. The pitches are mostly hard standings and quite large. It was nice to be able choose which pitch you would like to use. It was definitely a site we will be revisiting and recommend to others.

This lovely site is just under an hour from home and is perfect for a break and not having to travel far. We were greeted by the friendly wardens and chose our pitch. It was not very busy and out of school holidays and there were loads of pitches to choose from. They are mostly hardstanding, some sloped, are spacious and mostly under trees. The only downside when it rains - had a `noisy` night with the drops from the trees and also the pinecones dropping, don`t know what it would be like when the cones are fully grown! The site is set with several areas and so does not feel as big as it really it. The showers/toilets were first class and spacious cubicles, loads of hot water and the radio playing - that was a nice surprise! We had a tv signal, maybe it depends where you are pitched. The mobile signal was intermittent. Just a 10 minute walk takes you to Carsington Water, where there are picnic tables. Would not hesitate to return to this site.

We visited at the start of the May half term. The site was full yet didn't feel busy due to the layout being in small loops.
The pitches are well spaced and spacious, didn't feel crammed in at all and plenty of room for car, caravan and awning. Most pitches are hard standing. It was a wet weekend and with the pine needles on the floor, it did feel quite 'dirty' but this was mainly due to the weather. It would probably be dusty in the good weather.
Excellent wash blocks as you would expect from the Caravan Club. Lovely play areas, one for the bigger children plus a toddler one. Fabulous dog walk which circumnavigates the site, the path was muddy in places but the dog loved it!
Access to Carsington Water was via a fenced off pathway which meant we didn't have to take the children on the road or move the car which was a massive bonus to us.
The reservoir has a wonderful off road path all of the way round which is fabulous for cycling or walking (Approx 8 miles) and the visitors centre has a lovely little museum of water, a good play area and loads of picnic space.

Visited Carsington Water Caravan Club site on Saturday 29th March. The last time we visited was in August 2008. It's pretty much remained the same very clean and tidy site with spacious open pitches. I would say however the first pitch we drove into was a little short so we moved to pitch 53. Our motorhome is 7. 65m in length to give you some idea. Shower / toilet blocks are immaculate. Was made to feel very welcome at reception.
Good points:
Great for walking as it's so close to Carsington Water
Spotlessly clean site.
Great being nestled within the trees.
Downside:
No TV signal, although that's not important, but could be to some.
Very little phone signal. But that's around the entire area of Carsington to be honest.

We've just spent the weekend at this site. Fantastic.
Granted, as the site had only opened for the year on the day we arrived, the facilities were spotless. Large pitch, although our pitch was particularly muddy, with a few puddles underfoot. Others, most others, were less so. The site had obviously taken a battering over winter, losing several trees. Lovely woodland walk around the site - stunning views of the water.
Credit to the wardens, they've worked hard to open the site and their hard work has paid dividends. Facilities, top notch. The toilets and showers were heated, spotlessly clean and had Radio 2 playing all day. Very pleasant. All the pitches were well tendered. Didn't use the laundry, so can't comment on that. The two young ones we had with us enjoyed the park.
We had problems with the gas in our van, all four wardens were helpful, even going as far as to offer to cook our pizza we had bought for tea. (One of the wardens helped rectify the issue, having just had the van serviced, the engineer had left the testing switch on, which cuts out the supply to tha van - well spotted and thank you!).
The site is obviously well positioned for visiting Carsington Reservoir. Early Sunday morning was spent having a run around the resevoir, (totally recommend the cycle route for any joggers out there - about 13/14km loop from the site itself). The site is within easy distance of Wirksworth, Ashbourne, Matlock and Derby. Can recommend Le Mistral, (French restaurant in Wirksworth - fairly
Expensive, but a nice treat). Plenty to do in the local area.
Would we return, without a shadow of doubt. Great location, helpful and friendly wardens and top facilities.

Absolutely loved this site. It has such a lovely feel to it, we loved being right in among the trees.
The village of Ashbourne is a great little place with a good selection of shops and cafes. However, the best thing in the are is, the area! Great walks and cycling directly from the site and the trail around the reservoir is just about perfect for our kids, aged 9 and 10, with the right combination of challenging hills and lovely views. The visitor centre at the reservoir is a really good one, with nice shops and a great little cafe.
The site itself, and its facilities, is immaculate, even by CC standards.
We would recommend this site to anybody, of any age. We can't wait to go back.

This is one of the best sites I've had the pleasure of visiting.
It was easy to find and easy to access. When we arrived we paid our two nights fee, were given a map and told to take our pick of any available pitch.
The site itself is beautiful, it's set in a forest surrounded by tall trees and is very well maintained.
The facilities were great, the wash block was one of the cleanest I've seen and it was great being able to have a shower and not having to keep pushing a button to keep the flow going. There are also plenty of private washrooms.
The small playround was great for my 8 year old and our dog loved the two dog walks.
Around the area there's lots to do with Carsington reservoir closeby. The nearby town of Ashbourne is also worth a visit, there is also a Sainsburys, waitrose and Co-op located here.

We spent 3 nights here as we were doing a Charity Bike Ride from Ashbourne. Access is good, and the Wardens were very friendly and helpful on checking in. In typical Caravan Club style I was show the model Car and Caravan and told how to pitch the 'van (Offside rear corner close to the Peg!).
The site is in a great setting in a Pine plantation, with pitches in clearings surrounded by trees giving a bit of privacy. By Saturday evening the site was pretty full, but still seemed quite peaceful.
The facilities block is clean and of the usual CC layout. Showers are adjustable and not the 'push button type'. There's the usual Pot washing facilities, which seemed very popular, together with Laundry etc. My only complaint was it was a little too warm for me!
The site is very secure with a barrier operated by a card.
WiFi is available @ £5. 00 for 5 hours or £15. 00 for 20 hours. I wouldn't normally pay this extortionate fee, but decided to since I wanted to update friends via social networking of my progress on the Bike Ride. The signal was good, despite the Club website saying WiFi was temporarily unavailable. Normally we choose sites with free WiFi.
The Reservoir, with its visitor Centre is a short walk from the site, and has an 8 mile Cycle trail around it. Cycle hire is available, and there are a number of retail outlets and a Restaurant. Ashbourne is 15 minutes by Car and has a good selection of Shops, pubs, Restaurants and Takeaways. The site is ideally placed for exploring the southern part of the Peak District National Park.
We will definitely visit this site again, as it's just an hour and a half from Home, and in an area we like visiting.
