We visited Blackwall over Easter and had a fabulous time. This is by far one of the best sites we have ever stayed on!
Pros;
The setting is amazing – the site is laid out in such a way that the pitches are in clusters surrounded by pine trees
We had the furthest pitch from the reception and had two woodpeckers for company – it was idyllic
The children loved it – the site has a fantastic play area and they had lots of fun making dens in the woods
The facilities were clean as you would expect from the CC
The bike trails around Cartsington Water are excellent – we biked up to Carsington Village and had a pint in the beer garden of the Miners Arms
The site was well maintained and the tarmac roads kept the mud down to a minimum when it rained
Cons:
The policy of finding your own pitch is debatable with the CC – we got a great pitch as we drove on as the previous occupier left at 12pm. If we were getting there later – the only ones left were next to the play park which seemed very noisy and I saw children riding their bikes over hook-up cables, so possibly avoid this area
In summary, this is an amazing site and it is shame we do not live nearer. A visit here is highly recommended.

We've just spent 2 nights at this site and would be happy to go back again.
The site is well laid out, and covers a fairly large area. The pitch we were on was a very good size, but a few of the pitches did look a little small.
There's a couple of playareas which were popular with the children on site, and did get a bit loud at times. But it was during school holidays, and they all headed back to their vans at a sensible time, so no problems at all.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and kept the site very clean.
As you'd expect on a Caravan Club site the toilets were modern and kept clean. There was also the added bonus of a toddler bathroom.
A bit lacking in local shops and pubs etc within walking distance, but plenty not far away in the car.

A really well located site, and this made it a great place for visiting all the beautiful attractions in the locality especially White Peak area.
All the pitches are in a little alcove, although some pitches are a little cramped. The facilities were normal CC standard, although I thought the toilets could have been a little cleaner.
The site is in the middle of a forest, so be prepared for pine cones to fall on top of your outfit and become covered in pine needles.
The children's area is well equipped but both of my children loved playing in the woods making dens and fire pits (pretend!).
A great place for a holiday and can thoroughly recommend a walk through Dovedale. Simply divine.

We have just returned from a lovely relaxing weekend, without the children. We were at pitch 33 and had a lovely view of Cassington water, which you can easily walk or cycle to from the park.
The site facilities where spotless and although the toilets are cleaned between 10.30 and 12noon you can still use the disabled toilets. You can order papers from the site shop as well as getting basic supplies, milk bread etc.
They have a fish van on Friday night at 6.30pm which does fish, chips, sausages, peas and curry sauce all at reasonable prices. There is also the knockerdown pub a short ride away which was voted family pub of the year, if it's not too cold you can sit outside and enjoy the lake view.
All in all the site was wonderfully quiet even though it was fairly full 100 pitches booked just the hoot of owls at night.

We have just returned from a week at this site and it is idyllic, definitely the nicest site we've ever been on. The setting is so pretty, nestled amongst pine trees in such a lovely location. You can see Carsington Water from the edge of the site, and by bike it takes just a few minutes to get to the main visitor centre with a fantastic play area for kids of all ages, a huge lawn area to play football, rounders etc, a lovely restaurant and gift shops and a watersports centre, where you can hire boats etc. On a nice day you can definitely spend the whole day there.
There is a small shop on site which sells just the basics - bread, milk, tinned food, ice creams and daily papers, but no wine unfortunately! lovely clean toilet block and showers - didn't have to queue once for the shower in a whole week.
It is a fantastic site for kids, with two designated play areas, and various slopes for them to play on (take old clothes as all the kids were sliding down the slopes and ended up really dirty). Our boys made lots of friends and loved making dens and playing hide and seek etc. Would definitely recommend this site, especially for sporty families as it is an ideal area for cycling, walking and running, or just for relaxing.

Excellent and secure site. Friendly staff and efficient. Site was thoroughly cleaned everyday. Ample toilet block and showers and family room. Only three sinks for pot washing so sometimes saw people queuing. It is directly behind Carsington Waters and easily accessable whether walking in a car or cycling. Pubs a few miles away in either direction. Shops better in Asbourne, a short car ride away, worth a visit.Swimming pool in Ashbourne. Small shop on site and you can order a paper. Large walking area for dogs. A quiet site.

Stayed at the end of July for five nights.
Felt the site is in need of an update to bring the toilet block up to the usual CC standards.
The toilets were kept clean. But the water pressure for the showers was not very good.
Due to the weather some of the pitches were rather soggy.
The wardens were very helpful and friendly and booking in was easy.
The site did become very noisy in the evening when all the children were out playing they didn't just use the play park but the whole of the woods to play in and at the times the noise was annoying.
The dog walks found two were great one had a brill view of the carsington rev.

Just got back from a 3 day break. Site is lovely, kids were entertained on the playground for ages with all the other visiting children, they made some lovely friends. Toilet block well equipped however shutting between 10.30 to noon a bit silly felt rushed in a morning to get the family showered before they shut.
As we only live 10 miles away we are aware of what is available so didn't need to explore much, however the Knockerdown pub nearby does hearty pub food.
The dog enjoyed it and there was plenty of areas to walk him, a good on site dog walk.

Just arrived back from yet another pleasant weekend break at Blackwall. The facilities are excellent and a credit to the wardens, who are some of the friendliest we have encountered on CC sites.
Dog walk very good, and clean, only a few instances of inconsiderate dog owners not cleaning up after their dogs.
Only one problem and that is not with dogs as seems to be the biggest gripe with people leaving reviews, but children are worse. Clearly displayed signs asking not to cycle around the toilet block, seemed to be overrun with children on cycles, just waited to see an accident happen. Some of these children had only just learnt to ride without stabilisers so really shouldn't have been riding alone. Nothing against children but a little more supervision of some by their parents wouldn't go a miss.
The wardens need a medal for dealing with some caravaners as their was a lot of mess left around the bins, which we don't think is fair to ask them to clear up, although some may say they are paid to do so, they have a hard enough job, please lets respect the wardens more.

Just got back from this lovely site.
Generous size pitches. Peaceful on site. Clean tidy shower / toilet block. We found decent dog walking available on site (please clean up after your dogs). Walking to Carsington Water takes around 10 / 15mins, which is easy walking. If you like walking you don't need to use your car. The site is ideal - 10/10.
We were only there for the weekend, but it sounds as though a fish and chip van comes on Friday evenings (it was cancelled the day we arrived though).
Just one gripe with staff: Service with a smile would be nice.
