First time we have visited in our caravan (camped previously).
The site is quite large with spacious electric pitches and expanses for tents. Very reasonably priced for a beautiful and peaceful site.
Very well located to explore the island; especially Lane End beach where we bumped into Princess Anne!
Small play area for the children and space to fly kites and ride bikes. There is a small shop in the reception for emergencies.
The facilities are very clean with free showers, toilets, pot washing, laundrette and charging room.
We received a very pleasant welcome and were able to pitch immediately due to our site being vacant (this was very welcomed following our long journey).
The whole experience from booking to leaving was great and I would definitely recommend the site.
The local village of St Helens is within walking distance where there is a post office, news agents and a great pub.
The Crab and Lobster in Bembridge do a fantastic sea food platter, which is worth a visit!
Could there please be loo brushes in the toilets?

We arrived at Carpenters Farm last Sunday to a friendly welcome and a huge choice of pitches due to not requiring electric hook up, we decided to pitch at the top of the field next to a drinking water tap even though it was quite a walk to the toilet block we were very sheltered from the elements which made the walk worthwhile!
The things we were most impressed by were:
The cleanliness of the site, toilets, showers and washing up area,
The washing up area was outside but undercover which helped keep the camping feeling, and hot water was plentiful!
The extra facilities provided including washing machine, tumble dryer, vending machine (all reasonably priced too!)
Electric points for hair dryers and irons and a new area for phone/laptop charging which also had a coffee machine and reading material to help while away the hours while you wait for your phone! All electric points were free which is a bonus!
We particularly liked the family privacy bathrooms where the showers had temperature controls rather than the push buttons that the main shower block had, ideal for children!
The children's play area was ideally located in the centre of the site enabling us to keep an eye on our little one as she played!
The things we weren't impressed with were:
The entrance to the site wasn't very well marked, but after a couple of days we had got used to where it was
The water tasted a but plasticy but was fine after boiling.
All in all a fantastic site and we would definitely stay here again!

This site close to Ryde is largish, with a small kids playground and a good selection of mostly flat pitches. It wasn't at all busy when we stayed here - the top field was totally unoccupied. Its quiet and well kept, but a bit lacking in personality. Its good value though.
Its also on quite a fast road and the main field is ungated and opens directly onto the highway, might be an issue if you had children and were on a pitch at the bottom of the site.
The facilities were clean, though we wondered whether there would be enough of them at peak times.
Its close to some pretty spots - including St Helens bay where we were directed by the very friendly owners who recommended the Baywatch cafe on the beach - excellent food.

This is the second time we have visited Carpenters farm, it really is the most relaxed friendly park we have been to, its a typical no frills park but this is what makes it so nice.
The shower blocks and toilets are always clean and hot, the washing up area is well covered although there isnt all ways enough hot water for all, I guess there on a separate heater from showers, don't let this put you off, next to this area is a room with washing machine and tumble dryer and plenty of electric sockets for the hair dryer, mobils ect.
The children's play area is in the middle of the park our children would happily spend many hours in there playing, there are swings, sand pit, slide and a good sized climbing frame.
The little shop in reception is good and keeps bread, milk eggs ect, and isnt what id call over priced, If you need more Tesco is a 5 min drive away. All in all this is a lovely site and id recommend it to any one.

We arrived after 10 hours of travelling because of two blow-outs on our caravan tyres and a missed ferry but the reception was so friendly 'go and settle in, we'll deal with the paperwork tomorrow' that we felt is was all worth while.
The caravan pitches were the largest we have ever experiences and after several days we popped in to reception to say it was the best site we had been on in our five years of caravanning.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside and peaceful it was perfect for adults and the thoughtfully laid-out play area was bound to please the younger members.
Everything was beautifully maintained and clean and the people really friendly. We were there for a fortnight and never ran out of things to do on the Island. We ate in the local pub - The Vines - three times as it was so good and reasonably priced. Would have eaten there more but we reluctantly made ourselves try further afield!
The countryside far exceeded our expectations and so did some of the beaches. The towns were a bit dated and Ryde was pretty shabby but these stops were only a means to an end with regards to outings.
But by the time we left we felt very different! A lovely peaceful site was now over-packed with a mass of hideous tunnel tents - some so close that the guy ropes overlapped one another. This also meant that the 3 showers (per sex) and 1 washing machine were woefully inadequate.
In frustration, we ended up going to an outside launderette and showering in the caravan. The showers and washing machine being permanently in use from morning to dark - and beyond.
We have now decided never to use a site where campers are encouraged to 'pitch wherever they like' as you get large groups clustered together with all the noise and disruption this entails. Please either keep tents and caravans separate or have marked pitches for all. It isn't fair to be surrounded by hordes of tents and noise. In the end it felt like we were in the midst of Custer's Last Stand!
What a shame as this site was perfect apart from the overcrowding. We have no option but to holiday in August. Maybe out of season is better but the number of bookings should reflect the facilities available in high season.

Whilst overall this site was ok - the location is good, it is quiet, the pitches were just about an adequate size, the space for children to run around was great and the playground was handy, we wanted to point out a couple of pitfalls.
1. The sinks in the loos were ridiculously high! I am a 5'4' woman and had to stand on tiptoes to reach. My child couldn't reach the soap the wash her hands after the loo. Take a stool!
2. There are only 4 ladies' toilets for the whole campsite. This is simply not enough. Never before have I had to queue for a loo at 10pm!
3. The overall cleanliness of the toilets was not brilliant, which was disappointing. The water was not very hot in the sinks and the showers are feeble and it took ages to wash out my hair.
Please note that the size of our pitch was limited because we were on electric hook up (and some were bigger than others - ours was smaller) - if you weren't then you had the freedom to choose your pitch which would give you more space.
Please also note the site is on a slope in the majority of the field where there is no electric hook up.

This is a fairly quiet site, very spacious, particularly for those of us without ehu. It's on a hill so towards the back of the site it is quite an angle, I noticed lots of people used bikes?
The staff are very welcoming and most families seemed to have dogs with them. The showers are free but not especially powerful and the temperature can be between warmish to cold. They also go off after about 5 seconds unless you keep your hand on the button.
Washing up is under a carport affair - not great when the weather turns, the water temp is the same as the showers. The play area is fine and as I said it is a spacious site so plenty of room for kids to play. You hire ice packs at a charge of 20p a time so if you haven't got ehu you probably get through a couple of £'s.
The ground is very very solid, we had 2 pegs that just wouldn't come out, even though oh sliced his finger in an effort to get them out.
There is a 24 hr tesco very close by and also a macdonalds (24hr) & costa. I would recommend the seaview wildlife encounter, don't bother with the other 2 zoos, carisbrooke castle is good, brading roman villa is interesting. Needles is expensive, wouldn't bother with a joint ticket for blackgang / robin hill either are good but for different reasons. Old shanklin is nice as is the chine, don't bother with 'the crab' restaurant very slow service even though it was fairly quiet.
There's a lovely kiosk type eatery called the smugglers. Something that is good value and lovely service. We found that on the whole the weather was ok but it was always breezy which made it feel a lot cooler than it probably was.

Visited this site at the end of June/beginning of July 2010, with our new Outwell Hartford XL and 2 adults, one small child. It' was our first time camping on our own as a family though we have all camped before.
When we arrived there was no-one at reception but instructions to just pitch where we liked. It's a 16 acre field so there was plenty of room. We opted to do without electrics but will probably have them from now on, just so we can keep things cold and charge phones etc. It's a quiet campsite without intrusion from anyone.
Cons
The men's showers were scolding hot. Just hot water only and an infuriating push-button which allowed water to flow for about 15 seconds. Apparently the ladies' showers were less hot.
There's a gentle slope to the field but it's not that bad
The island's airport is nearby and the site is below the landing path. However, it's far from being like Heathrow and it's propellers only which to us gave it a nostalgic feel.
We couldn't find any facilities within CHILD walking distance. Ok for adults but if you have a small child, prepare to nominate a driver.
Pros
The whole site was well maintained and clearly looked after. Toilets and washing facilities were clean and there was no rubbish. Perfectly good laundry and dishwashing facilities.
Drinking water and extinguishers were dotted around the site.
The slope really was gentle in the main!
Children's play area.
Very friendly and quiet.
To us it seemed quite cheap.
Within easy reach of a huge Tesco (about 4 mins drive) and the most beautiful beach in St Helens. A good tip from the owner also took us to a nice beach in Ryde.
We had a really lovely time and will definitely return to the Island. There's a great selection of pubs, restaurants and things to do. We can recommend the steam railway which is very well done indeed. We paid for this and the ferry trip with Tesco club card vouchers which made them even better value.
If the gents showers were sorted out (could it just be me though??) then we could return to the site but we'll probably try elsewhere just so we can be within child walking distance of things and to just try somewhere new. If you don't mind driving like we did or your kids are older then don't hesitate; it's a great site with all you need and easy access to the rest of the island.

We stayed at Carpenters Farm for the third time during the August 2009 Bank Holiday. We have stayed at the site for a few days at a time, and also for a couple of weeks. It is an ideal site for long stays or short breaks.
We use the serviced pitches, which are spacious and flat. The owners are always very friendly, and have a good memory for regular visitors. There is always a really good holiday atmosphere on the site, and everyone always seems so friendly.
The facilities are always clean, even at August Bank Holiday when the site is always very busy indeed. They have excellent laundry facilities, and a small on site shop.
The site is ideally located for visits all over the Isle of Wight, and there are superb beaches close by at St Helen's Duver, and Bembridge.
This is a very welcoming site, and although the price has inevitably crept upwards in the last few years, it is still a site we will use again and again. Booking early is to be recommended.

Stayed at this lovely campsite for a week, we found it to be very clean and tidy even though it was busy(50+ units). The showers were cleaned twice a day very thoroughly, had to queue at peak times as there are only 3 male and 3 female. The only problem was lots of grass was taken in on shoes but this is the campers fault not the owners.
There are 4 washing up sinks under cover with lots of draining space but the water was only ever warm never hot. There is a laundry room but we didn't use this, black bin bags are provided for your rubbish as many as you need.
The play area was a hit with our children 4+7 fenced in so fairly safe swings, sand pit, climbing frame and a slide what more do they need ?
We had an EHU pitch which were all huge and level some of the non elec pitches could be on a gentle slope but the whole site was well kept with lots of space so should be able to avoid the slope.
Its easy to find and ideally placed for all attractions, The beach at St Helens was V busy and not much room to park, either go early or try Sandown much bigger but just as nice.
As others have mentioned the tesco is only 5 mins away and 24hr very handy for the last minute bbq. A Fish and Chip Van parks on site on a Thurs or the nearby Bugle Inn is a great family pub with 2 play areas but is very popular many people walked out due to an hours wait for food I think they had staff probs that night but there are at least 3 other campsites nearby no doubt all as busy as carpenters.
Overall a nice clean little site with a few niggles but we all have those. We will be booking for next year and staying a bit longer this time
