Just returned from this campsite.  Owners very nice and friendly.  Lovely shop on site.  Good facilities for washing up, though water not always hot enough, washing machine and drier, irons and plugs for use.  The only thing that lets this site down is the lack of showers and loos.  The queue for the showers was often half an hour at most times.  One more shower block would make this an absolutely perfect site.  Tesco very close by too.

Beware on approaching the site as the site entrance signs are very small and in the hedge, we missed them and because we were towing a trailer we had to go into St.Helen's to turn around. Very spacious site with a small play area in the middle.
Newish shower block and toilets, big down side is the lack of showers and toilets for the size of the site. 3 showers, 4 toilets and 4 wash basins in each and only 3 sinks for washing pots. The water is always hot, but the push button showers and taps are hard work. The water from shower collects in one run off drain for Grey water which you have to step over to get in the shower and gets messy when busy. Individual shower drains would be far more hygienic.
Reception nice and new, beware they don't take credit cards. There is only one washing machine, again for the size of the site this can be really hard to get to use. The site is slightly sloping near the entrance and gets steeper towards the top. Its quite elevated and the winds can be annoying so pitching in front of a perimeter hedge could be a bonus.
The walk into St. Helen's is really dangerous especially if you have a push chair and kids, there is no pavement for the first 300 yards and the bends are slightly blind with usually lots of fast flowing traffic. The Vine pub in St. Helen's serves reasonable pub grub and its family friendly. Tesco is easy to get to at Ryde. Its a good base for the beaches at Sandown and Shanklin.
All in all we did like the site, the kids had a great time in the evening on the play area and we found it relaxing being able to keep an eye on them from our tent. Nice relaxed site for such a busy Island.

This was our first go at family camping.  I checked out the review of this campsite on this website before I booked and it looked great.  We were not to be disappointed.  It is run by a very dedicated and polite team who do their best to ensure that everything is clean, tidy and in good order.
The toilet and wash up area was always clean and adequate for the size of the camp.  I particularly enjoyed being able to pitch anywhere as there was plenty of space.  There is a gentle gradient to the field but hardly noticed once bedded down for the nights, which were quiet from about 1030 pm (apart from the occasional roar from the lions at the nearby zoo!)
The campsite proved to be the perfect base for getting out and seeing the island but one week was just not enough to see everything.  We intend to use our tent to explore across into Europe but if were ever to visit the Isle of Wight again, I would definitely come back to Carpenters Farm.

JUST HAVE A BRILLIANT WEEK AT CARPENTERS FARM.  Great value for money.
The toilets are lovely and clean.  Showers good.  Laundrette and washing up sinks available.  There is also facilities to take your hair straighteners, if only I knew this before hand!
The owners are very helpful and welcoming.
Our pitch was near to and facing the children's play area which when you have young children is great as you can be assured they are safe while you can relax and unwind.  B.B.Q's are permitted as long as off the ground.  The reception offers basic supplies which are reasonably priced.  Site really clean with brilliant views across the hills. Main camping field is gently sloping with grass cut short and well cared for.  We arrived just after the very heavy rains at the end of July and while other campsites were under water, carpenters farm was puddle free.

There is a Tesco 5 minutes away for other supplies.
Site easy to get to from Fishbourne. Nearby pub in Brading has good food and children friendly.  Site located in St Helen's where there is a lovely beach with very clear water, rock pools and sand.  Sea view beach also excellent.

We have just returned from the Isle of Wight after a 7 night stay at Carpenter's Farm camp site near St. Helens. We arrived on site on the Sunday, (after a previous day of torrential rain which had left the field extremely water logged.) Although I missed a phone call due to the fact I was driving, the owners tried to contact me to warn me about the condition of the site which I felt was a very kind gesture.
Our first impressions were very positive, from the site's location and views over the country side, to the layout of the EHU section and un-cramped general camping field. The owner's were both very approachable and helpful, which given the site conditions was a real bonus. I could tell that they were very passionate about their camp site because they seemed genuinely upset that I was seeing the site for the first time, 'in this condition.'
After a couple of days  they were able to begin rolling the field and laying new turf where necessary which seemed to help, and by day 3 the site was almost dry.
We did initially feel that the one toilet block was maybe going to be a cause for concern, but because the site was not crammed with tents, we never had to queue for very long for a shower. The showers are the push button type with no thermostat control, but the temperature was constant enough not to be a problem, (and they were free.) The gents had 3 showers, 4 sinks, 3 toilet cubicles and urinals, and the ladies had 3 showers, 4 sinks and 5 toilet cubicles.
Outside, under a covered area, was a general washing sink and 3 washing up sinks. There was also a laundry room, (although we did not use this.) Given the site conditions in the first few days, the toilets were kept acceptably clean. The reception was situated near to the other facilities and had basic stocks such as milk, eggs, bacon etc. For anything more than this, the Tesco store was a short 4 minute drive away.
Situated in the very middle of the camp site was a small play area with swings, slide, climbing frame and a sand pit. Our 4 year old daughter made lots of friends here and it was easy to keep a close eye on her because of the layout of the camp site.
The nearest beach was only a short drive away but worth a visit, as were many other beaches around the island. We found that even though we were situated on the east coast of the island, we could get to anywhere on the island within around 45 minutes. Our daughter's favourite day out was at Robin Hill which was only around a 10 minute drive from the camp site.
Overall we were very happy with this site and would most definitely stay here again. For us, it cost under £10 a night, which is half the amount we could have spent at one of the Haven sites for example. This to me is what a camp site should be like. I have stayed at sites in the past with nightly entertainment, and pubs within a couple of minutes walk, but we just felt so relaxed here, which to me is what a holiday should be all about.

Have just returned from a lovely week at Carpenters Farm. The site is basically a very large, slightly sloping field with a small play area in the middle and a shower/toilet block at the bottom corner along with reception and laundry facilities (which can be a long walk in the rain!) It is quite basic but it does the job very well. Dogs allowed but must be kept on the lead at all times without exception (which I later learnt!) I was pitched against a hedge which sheltered me a great deal from the prevailing winds but I can imagine that when it becomes busier you may not get this luxury! Campsite is just outside the little village of St Helens where there is a pub and a post office. Nothing is very far away on the Island and there is a brilliant bus service if you don't want to use the car. The reception area stocks lots of brochures so you will never be at a loss as to what to do. Much recommended site.

We just had the best time camping at carpenters on the Isle of Wight. Such a friendly chilled out atmosphere , plenty of space for the kids to run around , nice and safe with the play area being in the middle you can keep an eye on them from virtually anywhere on the site.
The other great thing is you can pitch where ever you want within reason (unless you want an electric hook up of course - and even those are pretty spacious) the views from the site are beautiful.
We found the facilities to be spotlessly clean at all times throughout our stay lovely hot showers, great little reception and shop for essentials + ice pack exchange good opening hours.
Not to mention the owners, a great couple! always happy to help and stop for a friendly chat.
Thanks we will be back

Had brilliant 4 days at this site in their "overflow" field. They don't overcrowd the site because there is only 3/4 showers in the ladies block, so tons of room to pitch wherever you want. The reception/shop stocks a few essentials, but best bet is the Tesco 5mins in the car down the road. Very friendly owners who are more than happy to help you. Facilities are kept spotless, cleaned at least twice a day. I showered at different times of the day and there was always plenty of hot water. You can't take the showers of the wall which is a bit of a pain, but not a major thing at all. Lovely views.
We went with 2 pitches and our 6 year old daughter. The play area is in the middle of the main field, so the kids were pretty safe to play on their own, although we were in the overflow field so didn't allow our daughter to go to play area on her own. We would definitely return to this site.

This is a good value campsite. We visited with 3 tents and 9 children and had lots of space to pitch our tents. The toilets and showers were clean. The site is basic, the owners are friendly and there is plenty of space. We did not feel crowded at all, even though it was the summer holidays.

Had an excellent couple of weeks at Carpenters Farm.

A couple of minor points: Dont come to this site and expect to walk to the beach with young children and all the gear! Its a fair hike and although they are B roads they are busy and in places there are no pavements.
The campsite is spacious but is also popular and sometimes queues can form for the facilities, (more a woman's problem!)

These VERY MINOR points aside, the site is excellent, the showers etc were always clean and hot. The open spaces are excellcnt, cracking views of surrounding countryside, miles of footpaths.

Thoroughly enjoyed the IOW, and Carpenters Farm provided an ideal base.

P.S. If you fancy an easy meal the takeaway chippy in nearby Brading is well worth a try.
