Just returned from a very peaceful and pleasant weekend at watersedge. The toilet block was spotless and very well laid out. There are hook ups, plenty bins and even BBQ s to use. The grounds are well manicured with lots of bird houses etc. We were lucky enough to park right next to the duck pond which gave us plenty wild life to watch including a family of ducklings. There is also a small river running along the edge but well fenced of. (the pond is not)the wardens were pleasant and very helpful. There is a small shop and a bar opened at night, although we did not use it. There was no noise from the bar at all. The crooklands hotel has a restaurant and bar and is just five minutes walk onto the main road which leads to kendal(6miles)iyou will also only be a minute of junction 36 so a little road noise can be heard at peak times but not intrusively so. Very handy if you want to venture further north or even south. The only downside is initial impression at the entrance which is shared with a grotty coach and wagon park. If I hadnt booked I think we may have drove on to find somewhere else. But please follow the driveway and you will be just as pleased as we were.

Friendly welcome on arrival, though despite being asked if we had stayed before, we were not advised where the facilities were, Elsan etc. We had a gorgeous pitch overlooking the duck pond, with plenty of grass around us.

There is a really nice dog walk at the end of the site, with the river on one side, the canal feeder on the other. It's about a 10 min stroll each way, so, ideal for a morning walk with the pooch.

The site and facilities are beautifully maintained, the wardens take great pride in the whole site and it shows.

However, the shower block is woefully heated, in the ladies there is a fan heater above the entrance which had no impact on warming such a large space. The windows are vented and you needed to close them to keep the wind out. Sadly it made no difference to the temperature, blooming freezing! Not the standard you expect in today's market. The shower itself was lovely and hot. Speaking to fellow campers, we all had the same gripe.

Noise from the motorway was an issue for us, we don't hear any road noise where we live, however we chatted to folk from Manchester and they were not aware of it, and by night 3 we could block it out.

Wifi was excellent value, £5 for 3 nights, and the signal very strong, we ran a laptop and iPad at the same time.

The Site is one we would happily return to, with so much to see on the doorstep or further afield.

I keep looking at this site on UKCampsite.co.uk but never got round to going. We decided to give it a try so I rang up and booked, no hassle no deposit required.

This site is just over an hour from home, a bit longer due to traffic. The site is only 2. 5 miles from the M6 J36 but you can't hear the traffic.

The entrance to the site is a bit off putting as there is a bit of an industrial area with wagons and coaches we wondered where we were going to. Once you drive up the lane to the site it is totally different. It is a long narrow site with a river on one side and a stream on the other. There is a nice reception and a bar. There is a barrier and a £10 deposit is needed for the barrier card, which is returned once the card is returned.

The toilets were clean and showers were warm, push button operation.

We walked down to the pub on Friday and people from the site with statics and seasonal pitched were sat out enjoying the sun and having a drink. They invited us to join them so we did. We went in the pub again on Saturday evening, the prices are very reasonable £2. 50 for Thatchers Gold cider.

The people on this site are very friendly and we were made really welcome. One of the most pleasant sites we have been on.

There is the Crooklands Hotel about 300 yards from the site that does food. Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal are both 6 miles away.

This is a jem of a site, It is really peaceful and relaxing. We are glad we finally went and we will definitely be going back

Used this site as a stop over on the way to Scotland. Very conveniently located, just 2/3 mins from the M6. Very easy to find and along major roads.

Site is nicely laid out and is extremely well cared for. The owners were very friendly and helpful. There were a few caravans that appeared to be on permanent pitches, but still plenty of others free for touring use. There are also a few static caravans. All pitches are hard standing, with electric. Some are smaller than others, but the owners do check the size of your unit when you book.

The facilities were very clean and the showers were hot and powerful. 3 showers, 2 private basins and 5 toilets in the ladies. Husband said there were less toilets in the mens due to having urinals. There is a blow heater in the ladies. I did think it might be a bit cold after my shower as it was a chilly morning, but all was fine.

Fresh water taps and grey water disposal are close to most pitches as the fire points are also used for this.

The ducks did like to come over and say 'hello'. As the bank behind us was quite high they did also jump onto the caravan roof. They really weren't any bother though, especially when they realised we had no food.

There was a very small amount of road noise to be heard from the M6, but I should imagine that if the wind was in the other direction you wouldn't hear it at all. In a caravan you don't notice it, but is probably more noticeable if you are in a tent.

We cannot comment on the bar as we did not use it. The area around the pond was very nice. This is where any tents are pitched, but there was only 1 there when we stayed.

Just one really minor niggle; next to our pitch there was a really bright LED light (only one I noticed). Our curtains are quite light, and I did wake up at one point thinking it was morning, only to realise it was only 3am! However, I went straight back to sleep with no problem. I just thought this was worth mentioning in case you struggle to sleep unless it is dark, or you have kids, and thus could ask for a pitch away from the light.

All in all a really pleasant site that we would use again, either for a longer stay or a stop over.

Just returned home from a lovely weekend at Waters Edge. So easy to find from the M6, and easy to get the caravan in and out. We were allocated a pitch and we were set up pretty quickly. Our pitch backed onto the river/stream and I always find that running water is a relaxing sound! Wi Fi had just been installed and I must say its one of the best connections I have ever had.

The pitches differ in size but they are well maintained. The washrooms are excellent too and well looked after.

The site has a bar which is well attended and you can take your dog in there too. We ate out at a pub called The Plough in nearby Lupton.

Waters Edge is a great little site run well by Angela and we have booked to go again.

This site is about one hour from home. We have left our van here for a few months at the beginning and end of this season. Cannot speak highly enough of Angela and Terry who have twice helped us out. Once when our awning blew down in gale force winds and our last weekend when our battery charger failed on the van. The site and facilities are all kept clean and tidy. There is no play area and as there is a pond and stream on site children have to be watched but our 2year old granddaughter loved the ducks. There is a nice dog walk at the top end of the site and lovely canal walks close by. The Crooklands Hotel 5 minute walk away does nice food and the small bar on site is very friendly. All in all a great site. Well recommended. Lovely people, friendly, helpful and very receptive.

A 1 night stop over, on the way up to Scotland. What a lovely site. Nice clean well presented site. A shop that stocks the essentials you might need. The shower/toilet block was very good. The scenery was lovely. Everyone was very friendly, and the little club/bar has a very friendly atmosphere and good prices. Just 100 metres from the site was a nice pub/ restaurant the food was good. Would definitely stay here again!

A very pretty quiet site most of the week we were the only tent and then on the Friday a few more arrived but we were not intruded upon on our spacious corner near the duckpond. With the sound of the stream flowing behind us it felt like we were really in the country. A real gem even the electric was cheap to use the bar cheap and the lady very friendly one of the best sites we have been to in recent years. Just a couple of points take heavy duty pegs, be prepared to walk to the toilets when reception not open and there is a lot if open water so it is probably not a site for those with young children.

I booked by phone a few days before my visit, answered the lady who answered the phones questions about size of my tent, and how many people, (3 person pop up, but only one person) was told, we are almost full, but will be able to fit you in in a corner of the site, quoted price £11 with no electrical hook up which I did not need anyway, also mentioned I do not drive a car, but a transit sized van and would be arriving in that, was told that would be fine, but I would not be able to take it onto the site but leave it outside reception, which was fine for me.

Arrived at the site around 7pm, on the day I had booked, was greeted by a lovely lady who showed me where to pitch and was given a choice of sites, despite me previously being told they were squeezing me in.

Set up close to the BBQ and near the duck pond. (which really helped as I was leaving at 5am, did not need my alarm clock as the ducks started quacking as soon as it got light around 4am)

Pitch area was a short mown grass area in front of the bar area, there was several large family tents already there, but plenty of space for myself and 4 or five more tents (so much for squeezing you in)

After been shown to my pitch, I started to set up, although it was a grass area, and the ground was quite soft for inserting my tent pegs, I believe the areas is a rock or hardcore base with turf on the top, as every peg I used bent after going in to the ground around two inches, as it was a windless night it was not a problem as my tent was secure, however I doubt if in even a mild wind it would be the same

I was left to my own devices so to speak, I had to go back to reception and ask where the shower / toilet block was, as had not been informed on arrival, and there are no site maps on notice boards on the site, hence my customer service rating.

I spent and enjoyable evening there talking to the other tent campers, sharing wine and coffee,

I cannot comment on the child friendliness as was on my own, and I do not have children anyway, , although there is no playground or anything to occupy children I could see.

Bar was reasonably priced at £2.80 for a pint of lager.

Downsides to the site. In my opinion.

Having to ask where the shower block was, which turned out to be a few minutes walk away from the tent area.

No facility to buy meals on site, the nearest options are a Chinese takeaway (the Jumbo) a 3 mile drive away, or ASDA on the outskirts of Kendal, a 6 mile drive away.

Shower block was clean and tidy and operates on a push tap system where you push the tap, and get hot water for a short period of time, as found in some gyms and sports centres, no big problem with that

All in all I spent great night there, and would certainly stay there again

Spent 3 nights at this lovely wee site, easy accessed from the motorway.

A nice site has a secure barrier, the site has a lovely with a duck pond at the entrance.

The office has a small shop selling basic supplies, with a little pub on site if you fancy a wee refreshment.

Dish washing facilities clean, the toilets and showers where cleaned in the morning however we found that through the day they got quite dirty and smelly, however this does not reflect on the wardens as this was the campers and caravanners with no respect for cleaning up after themselves.

A great site for a base for travelling to the lakes Windemere near by and close to the lovely town of Kendal which is steeped in history.

It has several eating places as well as a handy Asda for supplies.

Overall would return to this site, and would recommend if anyone travelling around the lake district.
