This was our first weekend away this year and our first visit to this site. On arrival the reception was extremely friendly, this also contained a small shop selling the basics. We had our choice of 4 pitches with EHU which were all close to the reception area and the on site cosy bar. You are given a barrier key in exchange for a £10 deposit. The pitches were all flat and seemed well drained and quite sheltered. There are a few brick barbq's for use but it was a bit too chilly even for us. The toilet block is at the far end of the site and was always clean and warm. The showers were free and always hot. We visited the Crooklands Hotel on Saturday evening and went early and ate in the bar area. I think you need to book if you want a table as some people we spoke to on the site were left dissappointed but went the Punch Bowl about 3 miles towards Kendal which was apparently very good. The crooklands also ran out of real ale. We had a short walk up to the church on the hill which had good scenery and the ducks will keep you occupied all day. All in all an excellent start to the camping year and so good we have booked again for a few weeks time, just hope the weather holds.

This was our second visit, and once again we were not disappointed. The weather this time was totally opposite to what we had last visit but I did not spoil our stay.
The facilities are excellent and always very clean, the site is superb and very well maintained.
The staff are very helpful and will assist you with any problems. It is well located to get into the lakes, but far enough away to avoid the crowds.
A very quiet site and the tents are pitched around a small pond, which has brick built barbecues close by for your use.
Waking up to the sound of the ducks is brilliant and a must for all wildlife lovers.
I would highly recommend this site and have done and my friends have loved it too.

I have been going to Waters Edge for 11 years - 8 years in a touring caravan and last 3 years in a tent and I will return for many years to come - both my children who are 12 and 7 have had many pleasurable holidays here. You will tend to find that it is the same people that return year after year so there is always someone you will know. The site is spotless and all staff very helpful and friendly. The toilet blocks haven't changed in the 11 years I have been going and although always clean do need modernising and think there should also be a small toilet block near the tent pitches. Watch out for the ducks - always make sure the zips are firmly shut on awnings or tents because they will seek refuse from the rain as I discovered and don't expect to get a lie in either!
The Crooklands Pub food is lovely and its a 5 minutes walk - always a bonus - and the food is reasonably priced - you can also go for breakfast even if your not staying there - for a charge of course but the quality is excellent. Bakery, local shop and post office 5 mins in car and Asda in Kendal only 10-15 mins away by car. It is a great stopover if your going further into the lakes or Scotland. I took the children this year on my own - I am female(!) and although I have put the tent up in the past never on my own but there were plenty of volunteers to help and you would not find this on most sites. Thoroughly recommend to families with children because it is very safe and your not worried if the children want to go and explore - children can be children on this site and plenty of trees to climb!

We stayed at this site in July this year for four nights, just the two of us in our tent.
I cannot agree more with the previous review, such a friendly site, nice bar, clean toilets / showers (if a little old fashioned). It rained for the whole weekend, but we still had a brilliant time!
The ducks are also very friendly, beware once you have fed them, they will come back, but they were so sweet.

I loved this site! For once I think that tents had the better deal, all the caravans were close together. The only thing was the toilet block was a bit of a walk but we used the toilets in the bar. The bar was well stocked with a variety of drinks and the shop was small but with all the essentials. There was also a petrol station less then 5 mins away. The toilet block was clean and had enough showers so I never had to wait. Even on a BH weekend! The highlight of my weekend was the army of little ducklings.how cute. We woke up most mornings to see them outside the tent waiting for breakfast! I will go back to this site again.

This was our first ever camping trip and I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had made the inevitable first mistakes of beginners but the owners sorted us out and were extremely helpful and attentive. The site was very clean and was kept very tidy. As previous reviewers have said the tent pitches were on the small side but we managed perfectly well even with our big 8 man palace! I wouldn't see it as a problem unless it got busy. There are local shops available eg. Post office, village bakery, petrol station. Asda is only 5 miles away if you need modern essentials. The shower/ toilet block was kept very clean and the showers were piping hot. There's a big pond with ducks and, while we were there, about 18 chicks. This may be a problem with toddlers (constant supervision) as its quite deep in some areas. Its very easy to find, being only a 2 minute drive from the M6. Despite this its in a very peaceful spot in a valley between a stream and a small river and is sheltered from high winds. Theres a pub around the corner with good ale on tap and which serves food between 12-2 and 6-9 and a bar on site but we didnt use it so can't comment. All in all a nice relaxing break away from the stresses of modern life. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking fresh air and the sounds of nature at their finest!

Visited this site in October 2005. First site I ever visited. Beautiful location. Pitches on the small side. Clubhouse was closed when the Wife and I visited in the low season. Very difficult to get weekend bookings on this site, as it is extremely popular with weekend visitors. Had several quiet days on his site, which is sandwiched between a small stream ( which looks like an old mill race) and a rather larger brook, which zooms water away from the fells! This site is on the South-East edge of the Lake District, With easy access to the delightful towns of Kendal ( approx 5 miles) and Windermere. It's not too far to go east towards Ingleton, if you so desire. The site lies no more than five minutes west of the M6 J 35. It is easy to drive straight past the site entrance and not see it.!The site is located behind a milk bulk distribution depot! Which I can assure you, is unobtrusive so far as the caravan park is concerned! I personally found the site was enchanting, the wardens were friendly helpful and unobtrusive. I imagine that the site would be busy in high season, not helped by the small-ish pitches. The toilet blocks and facilities were clean and well equipped and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I would definitely visit again, but the difficulty in making weekend bookings, precludes when you can book. This means that you risk a short stay and if you have to travel long distances to arrive here, this is not very convenient. If you are lucky enough to get a convenient booking, this site is well-worth a visit. It's a lovely location, within easy reach of Lancashire,North Yorkshire and Cumbria. If you can't find something in that lot to occupy you, then you are definitely missing a trick or two!

Just got back from a lovely weekend in a great site. So close to the M6 it makes getting there almost too easy. Friendly staff, clean facilities and a lovely little pub that welcomes well behaved dogs. The area is lovely too. One of the best maintained sites we have been to. Watch out for the duck mafia though! Intend to visit on regular basis, recommend you do too.

We spent a weekend at this site and in my opinion it was all it says on the web site. The only thing that could be improved is the bar could be a little bigger. All the pitches are hard standing the toilets are clean as are the showers and the site is very well kept and the staff are friendly but dont take my word for it go and see for yourself
