Nice little site visited with my husband and two kids

The children enjoyed the play area and we had a drink in the beer garden.

The walk around the lake was lovely and views of Snowdonia at sunset were beautiful.

Although the showers get numerous mentions I have seen worse they were always clean and well stocked and there is squeegees available to soak up the extra water from the showers.

It would only be fair to mention that some TLC is lacking at the site just general maintenance that could make this a little gem. The decking could do with a fresh varnish and the play area required some weeding. Also the washing facilities were very poor but the owner did offer hot soapy water to do your dishes.

Would return as good value for money but will be taking the Midgey repellent next time as I thought Scotland was bad but not a patch on the Welsh Midgey's.

Although it has to be agreed that this site is in a lovely location, next to a pub, great! the condition of the site facilities leave quite a bit to be desired, in particular the toilet facilities, which must at some time in the past, have had a good deal spent on their construction, there are three unisex toilets two with showers which appear to have suffered some deterioration over a period of time, one of the doors couldn't be closed at all, never mind locked, all three had water all over the floor, there was no toilet tissue in any of the toilets, Not good! on top of that there seemed to be very little or no ventilation which left all of the walls very wet, & evidence of damp everywhere, all of which meant we couldn't use them at all.

The site itself was quite acceptable, a fairly flat well mown field with 10amp hook up, but the washing up hut is a joke, its a filthy mess with only cold water, I didn't bother with the Elsan point, but it does exist, We were charged £17 for one night for our Motorhome & two adults, We thought that to be too much considering the state of the place, we won't be back!

P. S. The blurb states that the site is a C. L (or C. S) we saw no evidence of that, & were accepted as non members without question!

We stayed here 23, 24, 25 June, field was lovely, toilets clean and tidy, showers lovely and small park for the grand children, there's a small lake alongside pub, where you can have a quiet walk. Owner was a very lovely man, very helpful and friendly, good pub grub served in pub and breakfast.

Betwys y coed about 8 miles down road and there's a small villiage shop nearby. Locals in the pub very friendly. Lovely open fire in bar where children and dogs welcome. There's a games room with pool, darts and many board games. We will definitely be visiting this site again.

We are still here as I write this. What a great site, Quiet, lovely views bleating of sheep and spring lambs right behind us. And the Pub just a short walk(800 yards not ten mins that turns out to be ten mins by phone) meals are top job. Tv signal and phone is ok but a bit dodgy in the windy times last night. But who cares. 7 mile drive to Betwsy, nice shops mini railway and pleasant sit outside the Stables pub dogs are ok on a lead. Will be coming back here. Very easy to get to off A5. Turn off Y giler arms sign up the lane a few hundred metres turn right over little bridge bear left up the hill and site is on the right find your name and pitch off the board and away you go. Pay at the farm opposite. Farm fresh eggs at the entrance leave your money in the box.

We visited this site to do a reccy for a group meet sometime, it is excellent and a brilliant site set amongst fantastic views.

The facilities are very clean and ample for the site.

The toilets and showers were very spacious and well kept, very clean and tidy.

There is a cabin with electric points and washing facilities.

Also there is a power wash set up outside to clean boots bikes ect if needed.

The owner is very friendly and helpful.

The pub serves excellent beer and great food.

I would recommend this site to anyone, either a group or single unit camping.

We shall definitely be returning with our club.

We called an hour and a half before arrival, heading towards Betws Y Coed we looked for suitable, affordable sites and choose this one.

Our stay was pleasant, relatively quiet, and in a good location, you can hear the road which can be busy but not too intrusive, and the odd person leaving the pub.

From experience of camp showers - I have to say, these were a really good experience - I used the one that ran the wrong way, so spent a little while squeegeeing the floor. This to me meant they where cleaner than most. I think I'd rather this than a dodgy mop

We weren't able to access water from the campers cabin, but we're offered a fresh bowl from the kitchen whenever we needed it (we heated our own).

The owner offered us good service, a great camping field and his showers (although only two) are in the top five that I've ever used camping! It may be a problem with lots of people on site, but at least the hot water won't run out! It may be good in peak times to have another toilet block (even if only temporary), while we stayed we didn't have any waiting problems.

We had breakfast here too - the food was good and the owner again friendly to us and our dog.

No doubt we will go back!

Y Giler - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Myself and a friend were touring Snowdonia on our motorcycles and camped with two small tents. The location was perfect for us to get around and see the very best of North Wales during a 3 night stay.

I telephoned on two occasions to book and got the answerphone and left a message. They never called me back. I then sent an email asking to book. They never bothered to reply. I ended up booking on line and was concerned that they may have gone out of business due to the non existent communication. In these days of economic downturn, its a strange way to run a business.

The Good

The location just off the A5 is great, good views from the camping field of The Snowdonia mountains and countryside. Not too busy so plenty of room to spread out. It is owned by, and next to, the Y Giler Arms which served excellent Bathams Ales and Guinness. We drank in the pub each evening, the barman 'Gethin' was a very friendly and sociable young man. We ate in the pub once and the food was good. We would have eaten twice but they don't serve food on a sunday!

The Bad

No interaction with the owner, he never greeted us or at a later point came to see how we were doing and point out the facilities, didn't bother to ask us how we enjoyed our stay when we spoke with him when we were leaving. Pretty poor customer service.

There are only two very small shower rooms, one of which has a floor that slopes the wrong way and floods very quickly. There is no light over the sink mirror, so you shave in very poor light. Ladies be warned, there is no hairdryer or power point for your own one.

The Ugly

The washing up hut for campers is a joke. There was no hot water, in fact there was no water. We had to wash up in the toilets. The hut contains a mildew infested leather sofa that I wouldn't dream of sitting on and is only suitable for the skip. The 'Shed' as that is what it is, was covered in flies, dead flies and cobwebs with a roof that leaked in many places. It contains two washing machines that were covered in flies and look broken.

The web site, which I assume was last updated in 2010 states that 'improvements are planned for 2011'. Well, it's now September 2012 and no improvements are apparent, simply further deterioration. We spoke to a number of campers who had stayed there before and remarked how the standards have slipped dramatically since the owners wife left him.

If you are thinking of fishing, which they advertise, don't waste your time bringing your rod, the small lake is full of weeds and seems devoid of any fish.

Whilst in Snowdonia, due to our disappointment, we went and looked at other sites, which looked far, far superior. It's a real shame, the Y Giler has the potential to be really good, but is let down by poor management and a lack of investment.

I will spend my money elsewhere, somewhere where I will be more appreciated as a customer and where the facilities have had far more thought put into them.

This is a great site, we booked it as the prices to stay were very reasonable!

The location is fantastic half an hour from Snowdon, 20 miles from Conwy and Llandudno, and 8 miles from Betws Y Coed you couldn't ask for any better.

The little pub on site is cosy and friendly although didn't eat there.

The showers are great electric showers in a wetroom style, there were 2 ech with a loo and 2 separate toilets which were fine although no hot water in the sinks not really a problem though.

There were no washing up facilities not the end of the world this was a lovely well kept site and the owners must work hard to keep it running so well!

Wow, what a superb Gem, set in such beautiful welsh countryside

Thank You Marc and Simon for the hospitality we received. We arrived whilst the pub was closed on Monday afternoon. It had just stopped raining but alas it was still blowing a gale.

On surveying the site we decided to pitch near another tent on the caravan field, taking advantage of the shelter of a large tree. Having first invented a new 'Olympic Sport-Kite Tenting' with only one rule; Don't let go of your guy ropes!

We pitched our tent successfully for our 8 night stay with our Corgi Meghan. The site is well laid out with plenty of room, a good range of electric hook-ups, well positioned fresh water tap, Dog friendly walking areas and countryside views to die for.

The shower and toilet block are up-to-date, just a shame some people can't use a mop blade and light pull! The lack of hot water was soon solved and after all it's Camping not Glamping.

The camping hut needs updating but, who can do everything at once?

The Y Giler Arms welcome is second to none. Landlord made us feel so at ease and she was made to feel like one of the family. The food was excellent and of superb quality.

The local shops range of goods is excellent and well priced.

Just spent 2 nights at the y giler arms and even though weather was dire it was a pleasant stay very quiet at first as pub doesn't open until 18. 30

Pub was very quiet at first then a few locals joined us nice welsh bitter went down a treat and had some hearty pub food recommend the platter to share very tasty very friendly staff and we watched the match sitting by a real log fire very cosy and good rates. Clean shower and toilet block

44 pound for 4 and a two night stay with car not bad

Very idyllic area just hidden away off the old A5 coaching road

If you get the chance take the Miran trail route in betws y coed and check out swallow falls don't pay it's a very good walk but advisable you wear good footwear due to tree roots. After the falls keep walking until you find the bridge to the ugly house tea rooms or continue down the A5 until you find the swallow falls pub the food is gorgeous 2 meals for a tenner. Get the beef goulash or the minted lamb plus the beer is good too

All in all a good quiet weekend on the campsite if it's quiet you want. Good for long walks etc.
