Disappointing. This site has so much potential that has not been released.

The location is fantastic. You drop down a narrow road into the Severn valley and suddenly come upon the Unicorn Inn and the site nestled on the banks of the River Severn. The site is level and seemingly stone free (I didn't hit a single stone when pegging out the tent), well appointed with electric hookups and taps.

The site is passed by the Severn Valley Railway and so during the day you get these steaming past which proved to be quite pleasant. The train time table is such that you aren't woken by early morning trains or disturbed by them passing after dark. The station is a short walk from the site allowing you to explore the length of the line with ease.

There are plenty of footpaths in the area on both sides of the river. At the weekends a foot ferry runs across the river from here to a pleasant pub on the other side and yet more footpaths. When the ferry is not running there is still some (less official) access across the river.

We frequented the Unicorn Inn itself on a few occasions. We had breakfast here twice and found the breakfasts to be cheap but plentiful and thoroughly enjoyable. Evening meals proved to be average pub grub and while we enjoyed them they were nothing particularly special. The pub itself is primarily a club house for those with permanent pitches on the site and although we were always treated politely we did feel a bit of an inconvenience.

We arrived at about 21:30 by which time it was dark and once I'd paid we were told that our pitch was 'at the bottom of the site'. That was the limit of the description that we received and from then we were left to find our way around the site. Either being shown the pitch or a map of the site would have been most helpful to help us find our pitch, the toilet block etc.

Our biggest criticism of the site has to be the toilet block. If you go in the around 9am then things aren't too bad as they've been given a quick wipe over and some toilet cleaner poured down the loos. However, this is a veneer that quickly disappears leaving something akin to a public toilet block. By the afternoon it smelt badly and quickly running out of toilet paper, etc. On Sunday I had been paddling on the river so went for a shower. Only one of the three toilets was usable (one was blocked and the other caked in faeces) and there was no paper. The shower was hot but the shower cubicles were dirty, the ceiling mill-dewed and fungus growing between some of the tiles. Needless to say I didn't feel particularly clean after the shower.

To return to my original comment this is a site worth watching because once a few improvements are made it would be a fantastic little site. Until then however we don't expect to be returning.

Just came off a weekend break at the unicorn in hampton load. 4 adults and 8 of our children had a fantastic time. There's a park on site for our children which they loved. Very friendly staff

Clean toilets / hot showers. Good nice conservatory which we always ate in. Food fantastic. Even gave us an extra pitch which we loved as more space. Old fashioned train station just off the site, which was fantastic and a boat which will take you across the river. Really enjoyed it and will be going again very soon. Any rubbish was cleaned up by staff on a Monday.

Overall a great experience. Cheap break and entertaining for the kids.

We went here on a fishing and camping trip. When we arrived there is the small inn which you go into pay. The staff where very helpful. You have to pay a £10 deposit on the key to open the gate.

They showed us our pitch to set-up camp however, people had parked their cars and set-up bivies there. We asked them to move and they did. Once we set up our trailer we set off fishing. It is very steep and when it rains the bank is really slippery.

We saw a few people come close to falling in.

People claimed the fishing was bad but we had a good few fish out.

Overall this is a good camp site although, I must mention that the facilities are satisfactory. Also there is a farmer who owns a peg next to the camp site and it is private but, you wouldn't know unless, he actually came over and tells you.

The site has a nice playground for the kids. It also, has a couple of hook-ups and a few hard standing pitches. With a little clean up of the toilets/showers this could be a very good site.

Just came back from a weekend away at this site. Upon arrival we waited 30 minutes to be attended to at the bar to book in and find out where our pitch was. As the weather was glorious the pub was really busy so I would have thought they would have taken on extra staff to cope with the expected influx of drinkers/campers as this fine weather was predicted.

Once set up on site I started to notice quite a few issues:

1. The doors of the electric hook up fuse boxes were all either hanging off or on the floor, leaving the innerds exposed to the children playing with water pistols, etc.

2. The taps were attached to the same post as the electric hook up points!

3. The toilets and showers were MINGING! It was a busy weekend due to the predicted hot weather but even so there is no excuse. I have never had to have a shower with my shoes on in all my years of camping - and we have been on some rough sites. There was never any toilet roll either so be sure to take your own. People also left used sanitary towels on the floor. There are no sanitary bins in the loos, just one kitchen-type bin WITHOUT a lid.

4. There were far too many tents pitched in close proximity to each other. I can understand that people camping together want to be close to each other but with all the camp fires & barbecues that were lit it could have easily set fire to one nylon tent and quickly spread to the next and the next to burn down the whole of the one side of the site nearest to the river. Also, there would have been no room for a fire engine to get through due to the thoughtless pitching of the campers and parking of cars. No-one came on to the site to ensure safety was observed and it was very much a free for all.

5. Also the site was quite noisy with lots of young people partying until the early hours and talking in loud voices, no doubt in alcohol fuelled high spirits. Some people were awake quite early and again talking in very loud voices so it was impossible to get much sleep.

6. No-one bothered to give us a leaflet or tell us: where our pitch was, where the bins were, or where to empty the waste water or the toilet!

7. The only washing up sink is in the same room as the toilets! Don't think I will be washing up my pots in there, thank you.

Summing up this could be a wonderful site as it is in such a stunning location. I suspect they are raking in the money without trying to improve the facilities, so why bother? Because the site is in such a state it attracts customers that do not care or bother to have any consideration for their fellow campers, with one incident of a couple having a shouting match (including the worst of any swear words) in front of their young children that were, in the end, pleading and crying with the so-called adults to stop.

I will not be going back there until they have got their act together. I expect usable, safe facilities for my £20 per night.

We've just come back from a stay here, and too be honest there's more negative comments, than positive

So the positive

1) The ladies toilets are now in a much better cleaner state, although toilet roll is not restocked daily, and when you're paying £19 a night, for very basic facilities, the least you should expect is toilet roll to last each day,

2) The site itself is really pretty and well maintained.

3)The fishing pegs are well kept, if you fish on site, there are 15 fishing pegs, in the campsite, and at the time of going its £5 for a day ticket, and you can fish really late, you don't have to stop at dusk, normally people fished to midnight, or left their rods in all night. Its with Kinver angling, ask for Calimari (Ray) he stays on site, a brilliant helpful, friendly guy, he'll issue you wih the day tickets, and give you great advice, of whats working at the time.

Now the negatives

1) Most of the pitches are NOT marked with the numbers, and the bar staff when you check in you will be told to pitch in one place. People next to us were told to put their tent up at pitch 3 at the park, so they looked on the post, it said 3, so they started to set up, and Dave came and told them to move. Luckily they'd just started setting up. I mentioned it would be less stressful, for everyone, if the pitches were numbered, but was told its too much trouble !

2) Make sure you're quiet after midnight, we got a visit threatening to throw us offsite. Although we were very quiet, and you can understand most people that go are there for fishing and want to be up before 6am, but he didn't tell the people that are on site all the time to be quiet outside the pub. The noise was awful going on till after 2. 30am. Talking and laughing is fine, but on the 2nd night, the people had the kids there till after 2. 30am and the kids were running round, screaming and kicking things and not once were they told to be quiet

3) there are lots of signs around saying dogs MUST be on leads at all times, and if you didn't comply with that rule you were threatened with eviction. We got told to put our dog on her lead and she was sat outside our tent, with us, under my husbands chair

4) The mens toilet was blocked for the 2 days we were there, the urinal was ok so my husband said. The shower was freezing, but he was told by another camper that you need to hit a button, in a box to access the hot water, no mention of this from staff

4) to access the electric hookup on some pitches you need to put your hand inside a broken box to lift the switch, there is no key available to open the box, this was for pitches 5/6/7/8 at the playpark, a bit dangerous !

5) at breakfast only one man was working, and when someone complained about the time everything was taking, she was snapped at, and told he's on his own, and nothing he can do about it, no word of an apology

We had a 6 man frame tent, and although there were only 2 of us plus our dog, we were charged £14 for the tent, £1 each adult, £1 for the car, kept at the tent and £2 for electric hookup

Showers are free, although cold unless you know how to access the hot water, but remember to take toilet roll with you

Myself and partner, son and family, just returned from a fantastic week end at the Unicorn, what a wonderful site.

We were greeted by the Landlord, warm, friendly, and it seems a permanent smile. The pub itself was a treasure, good ale, and excellent food. Had a Sunday roast 'HUGE!' all home cooked, fantastic.

The site does have many permanent units, but the people were very friendly and helpful.

I only have a couple of criticisms, and they by no means spoilt a wonderful stay.

The Shower/toilet block was very cold, with no heating, and lights were on timer, so shower in the dark, showers were just warm with no adjustment.

Waste disposal was permanently locked.

Please check prices on booking, as I think the web site is out of date.

Regardless, we will be returning to this wonderful site, and would like to thank the owners for making us very welcome.

We spent one night here and have mixed feelings about it.

The site is located in a beautiful setting alongside the river Severn. We arrived at 11:30 and were greeted warmly in the pub and issued with a fob to activate the barrier to the site, paying a £10 deposit.

we had very little choice of pitch as the site was quite crowded, there was a large group of people there who were having a cowboy night and wouldn't allow us to pitch anywhere near them.

However we pitched in an adequate little corner and went off for a six mile walk along the river into Bridgnorth. On our return I decided to forego having a shower as the shower block looked like it had seen better days. There were three showers which looked in need of a good clean. Only two of the three toilets had doors! Toilet paper supply was very low.

The walls and floors were in bad state of repair.

We had booked an evening meal at the pub and on arrival for this we were told that they had no reservation for us - this by the girl who had taken the booking from us earlier in the day!

However we were allowed to eat there as long as we ordered and paid for our meal there and then. We waited about forty minutes for a very nice meal indeed! Rump steak, masses of chips, salad and onion rings, all cooked to perfection for £7.95.

All were very friendly in the pub and a very nice evening followed in a lively crowded pub.

Breakfast in the pub next morning was nice, an ample full english with tea and toast was £4. 95.

If you don't mind the grubby toilet facilities and like a drink and a chat in friendly environment then this is for you.

Nice site, lovely area, pub food fantastic and value for money.

Female toilets disgusting!

Male toilets more or less the same.

I would personally say this site is for fishing groups and not a family wanting to escape for the weekend.

Needs more care taken to toilet blocks as this gives a bad impression on the site itself, apart from that lovely weekend.

Would visit the pub for food but not pitch our caravan.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of july. I think that there have been some unfair comments left about this site in the past. Had no trouble arriving at 11am although it took about 20 mins to get the barrier tag to work. Had no trouble leaving at 9. 30 on day of departure as there was always someone in the pub due to them doing B & B.

The site was very busy with tents so there was some noise but not intrusive. Caravan pitches are a good size and separated by low hedges, a lot are used as season pitches.

The toilet block though basic was adequate, it did get a bit grubby but understandable with the number of campers, they were cleaned daily and there always seemed to be toilet paper available (although it is always best to go prepared with your own).

The location is stunning, between the river and steam railway, only 5 minutes walk to Hampton Loade station (my main reason for choosing this site).

Did not eat at the pub so cannot comment on food, drinks prices were average pub prices. Go to this site with an open mind and enjoy what the area has to offer.

The site was very popular with people fishing, day tickets are available. Be aware that the approach road is very narrow with limited passing places, especially the last 200 yards, I had no trouble with a caravan in tow.

Found site very noisy at weekends

Charged £20 per night which is quite expensive for a standard site

Showers were always cold

Toilets where not cleaned regular

There are no waste bins around the site

Rubbish left by all weekend campers was not collected till Tuesday, by which time birds had ripped open some bags

Beer prices very high. Carling £3.20 a pint. Seem to get different prices on rounds of drinks. Service can be very slow even when nobody at the bar. Food very good but service again very slow . Waited 40 minutes for meal

Elsan point not clearly shown, required a key from the bar which is not open till 12. Also you can not leave site till 12. As you need to hand in a fob for the gate or loose your deposit
