The Unicorn is an old fashioned pub next to the River Severn and the Severn Valley railway. They still practice old fashioned values and very much demonstrate a live-and-let-live attitude.
The comments posted seem to come from folk who like a set of rules, but the whole ethos of the pub and the camp site is about freedom! Sure, you will find, in all walks of life, wherever you go, some people who have disregard for others but I can certainly say, from experience, the management and the staff are very friendly and are always ready to help. It was refreshing for me to find that access to the pub has wheelchair ramps - they exclude no-one!
Yes, there are dog lovers there too and maybe the odd dog poop escapes the owners eye, yes, there are children who play and experience country life, yes there are parents who let their hair down and enjoy the ambiance and yes, the toilets could do with the assistance of those that use them - clean up after yourself!
All of the delicious food at the pub is cooked fresh to order and they use local produce. Nothing is too much trouble. In this society where complaining is becoming more and more widespread, why not practice the old fashioned values?
If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
Your experience does not represent my experience.
I shall look forward to another year at the Unicorn with nice friendly people, good food and the beauty of the place.
Viva La Calamara!

Only the brave will make it down to this site! Beware that the road down to the site is very narrow and although cars can pass at various intervals, I doubt cars towing caravans would!
The pitches are nice and secluded, each one surrounded by 5ft leylandii. Electric hook up and water available within a few feet. Getting onto the pitch we were allocated to however was not a pretty sight as residents parking was not friendly.
The owners were friendly but seemed to have rules and processes that they didn't understand themselves. From the key needed to the electric hook up point to the car barrier on entry to the site. There seem to be many tourers that are permanently sited so being the newcomer was not greatly comfortable.
It was clear we couldn't get on to the site until 12 noon and could stay til 12 noon on the day of departure, however it wasn't clear that we had to stay until 12noon as there was no one available to refund the barrier pass deposit.
The mens toilet / shower block had recently been refurbished and was very nice. Ladies block was still awaiting refurbishment, therefore not the most pleasant experience.
We had planned to eat at the pub on site but changed our minds. It didn't have the clean feeling we would expect from somewhere serving food.
Having said all this, overall we had a pleasant stay. Weather was very kind to us, and just a short drive to Bridgnorth Town.

Oh dear what a shame.
We booked this site for a quick weekend get away although we tried a few sites before this one but either full or did not answer phone, so booked into the Unicorn.
The booking in was straight forward at the pub you need to pay a £10 deposit for the barrier key and I was a bit shocked with the £20 per night fee but thought it must be a 5*. Drove onto the site which at first glance looked very tired, the pitches are nice and flat and fenced off so quite private which was the only plus I'm afraid.
The site has quite a few statics and the residents tend to park in the narrow road around the pitches which does make it difficult to reverse your unit.
We got all set up and found the water tap, 1 tap to 2 pitches but the seasoned pitch caravan on the next pitch has a connection plugged into the tap, so every time you need water we had to take their connection off.
We had a look round the site and visited the shower block, how anyone can use them I don't know. There was no toilet paper and the walls have been used instead of, there was no soap to wash after using the toilets.
We also think the site has very little rules about noise as from 5pm to about 7pm grown men and children thought it great to ride around the site on loud motorbikes.
They also do not bother about the drinking and noise at 2 to 3am.
If you need to empty your toilet you have to ask for a key in the bar and again when you do get the key the elsan is not the cleanest places bit like the rest of the block.
If it was not for the steam railway I think we would have packed up early and gone home.
At £20 per night it was not a good experience.
We shall certainly remember this site for all the wrong reasons.

This could be a superb site - the setting is outstanding, right by the river with an old foot ferry nearby, walks, fishing, etc.
On arrival the site had rubbish strewn everywhere, bags, bottles, tins, and less savoury waste too. Although it was only about 11:00am fellow campers had already fired up their stereos and opened their beer. We struggled to find a pitch that was anywhere near clear and on heading to the toilet blocks, quickly left them again.
They were the worst I have come across in 30 years of camping, I'm sure I don't need to go into detail when I say I wouldn't let our family use them. There was no hot water and I can't say how the showers were, as I would not go in them.
If the site was just tidied up and the toilets had been cleaned it would have been bearable. At the rear of the site are a band of static homes, some of which looked very nice but some looked as if they needed demolishing.
On the positive side, the guy who booked us in was friendly and the pub seemed to be clean and tidy. But that's about it.
We got off the site as soon as we could find another which is a real shame because the site could be just superb and a real gem in the Shropshire guide books.

Me my husband and our 3 children were meeting up with family, this was our first time at this site. As you pull into site there is a little park on the right which is great for kids. Stunning views of the river Severn. Brilliant atmosphere on the site, not expensive at all, cost us £36 for two nights. Staff very friendly. I admit toilets could be refurbed because the rest of the site is stunning. There's a little foot ferry for you to cross the river and you get the Severn valley train passing by which the kids absolutely loved. Will deffo be going back again, brill experience, kids happy and so were we

We could not wait to come home yesterday morning to have a shower. We have never been any where with such a run down toilet block. We even brought home our washing up because this facilities was inside the toilet block. You need to take your loo roll with you because you would be lucky to find any in the toilets.
The best thing is the steam train station is only a 5 minute walk from the site. We tried the food once in the pub and we did not try it again
This is the first time we have ever come home and not liked the campsite

We stayed at the site as part of a canoeing trip, one afternoon and evening and the following morning prior to setting off again.
The showers were very grim indeed, dirty, and no real hooks to hang clothes on. The evening shower was a mixture of either freezing cold water or so boiling hot you would need asbestos skin to stand under it. The next morning was just freezing cold water, but the old bloke in the next cubicle helped by telling me to 'lather myself up first and then run under it quick to wash off'. Bracing is the only word for the experience.
The toilets were filthy with no toilet paper, but that didn't seem a problem for the 'gent' who used his own underwear in lieu of any paper, and then kindly left them in the cubicle for everyone else to find. Nice.
The Pub itself was good, staff friendly and helpful. Food was adequate, nothing to shout about but reasonably priced and the ales were bang on.
The actual site could be lovely, right next to the banks of the River Severn with the Severn Valley Steam Railway passing close by, the fishing looks very good and the site is well used by anglers. It's just a shame about the rubbish left in the bushes along it.
Would I come back - only on a similar trip; and then I'll be bringing the Solar shower.

The location is wonderful right on the banks of the River Severn and the Severn Valley Railway passing alongside.
When we arrived the owner pointed through the pub window to our pitch. There was dog excrement on our pitch, not very nice to have to clear away before we could pitch.
I don't mind basic but the toilet, shower, washing up block was dirty. Toilets weren't cleaned while we were there, no toilet paper and nothing to dry hands on. At £19 per night I think they are charging 5star prices for 1 star pitches. I did notice that some work was being done on the toilet block but it could have been cleaned, dirt and grime been there for years.

This site would have to go down as average. However if you avoid bank holidays it is very quiet, almost peaceful along the banks of the River Severn and lovely scenery.
The on site pub was good and food was well priced and huge portions, the staff were friendly.
The toilets over the bank holiday weekend were disgusting, but once the weekend campers had gone they were cleaned and stayed like that for the rest of our stay of 5 nights but they were very basic and in need of modernising.
The kids play area was ok and lots of kids on there seemed to enjoy themselves.
The surrounding areas of Bridgnorth, Bewdley and the little town Much Wenlock are well worth a visit.
For me I wouldn't use this site again, but if you avoid a bank holiday weekend it might be worth a short stay

Good Points:
Railway was 100 yards away and steam trains came along every 45 minutes which is great if you have kids.
Pub food was good and reasonably priced, as were the drinks in the bar.
The pitches for the tents were flat and there were plenty of water/electricity points.
Bad points:
The toilet block was disgusting, the smell was horrible and there were no hand drying facilities or toilet paper in any of the cubicles. The whole block needs renovating and everything replacing, I wasn't brave enough to try the showers out!
There were not enough bins to cater for everyone and bags were just being left on the floor nearby.
There was a lot of noise coming from some of the tents nearby until 0430 hours which woke our two year old up several times.
There were a lot of young groups there who didn't seem to show anyone else any respect and were quite happy making a noise all nights.
On paper this site looks quite good but in reality we personally thought this site was way below the standards we expect.
