Visited this site on bank holiday weekend. First time we have been here and loved it. Great staff and the food is to die for, large portions and at a good price. If you want a good time best place to be, its lively and every one is very friendly, we loved it already booked the next one cant wait. Toilets need updating but apart from that very good site. Steak and ale pie is out this world. The staff cant do enough for you very helpful, book in advance if you want a hook up because they go fast. The kids loved it and did not want to leave.

Stayed there for the 60's weekend on the Severn Valley Railway. Some of our party camped and the others stayed in the B&B accommodation on site.

The location is great with the railway one side and river the other side of field. Field is flat and toilet facilities are adequate. We opted for electric hook-up which is great for £2 a night. The B&B accommodation was great and was worth the £45 twin room a night for the superb breakfast alone - 10/10.

The bar has a friendly atmosphere and the beer is great - Dave the Manager could not do enough for us. We even ate there in the evening and with meals around £6 you can't go wrong. The manager even takes a walk around the campsite at around 11-12 in the evening to make sure that nobody is making too much noise.

We took a trip across the passenger ferry to the other side of river (between 11:00 and 18:00) and this all added to the great location. Can't wait to go back !

What can I say this site needs some rules the loud music until late at night was out of order. There are not enough toilet facilities for the amount of campers the pub squeezes onto the site what happened to the 5mtr rule?

The toilet block that is there is poor no supplies i.E toilet roll - Take your own girls!

The showers when they actually work are very basic and need dragging into 2011.

As other campers have said the pub food is fab and really good value for money although you do have to wait over and hour if there are a few of you.

There are some lovely walks and the playground is safe for children.

We made the best of the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday as the weather was so nice, but will not return.

Went to the Unicorn Inn for the bankholiday weekend, we went as a group of 11 people - 8 adults and 3 children. Arrived Thursday afternoon where it took over 20mins to check in and pay as the staff kept walking away and talking to others.

We were directed to the bottom corner of the campsite near to the playground which initially appeared ideal.

The site is in a lovely location on the edge of the river bank with Hampton Loade SVR train station only minutes walk away and a ferry over to the other side of the river.

Unfortunately Friday morning the campsite became very overcrowded very quickly. Parties were pitched way too close and cars were blocked in. Complete fire hazard. It seemed accepted to play music extremely loud until 3 - 4am regardless of small children.

The toilet block was very basic but if there was respectful visitors then would be ok for a one or two night stay - very outdated. However due to amount of people and lack of any thought for others the toilets and showers appalling condition. Never any toilet roll or soap even when informed.

The playground was very good and our 10 yr old girl spent some time on there.

Can't comment on the pub food as we never used the pub at all!

We left a day early, when we approached the manager he was quite clearly uninterested in our experience and was not bothered by our distress. He offered us a small refund as a gesture and a 50% discount on our next visit, when informed that our experience was so unpleasant we will never be coming back he very quickly withdrew this offer and we didn't even get the money back for the night we didn't stay.

All in all this site is in a lovely location and could be very pleasant, however the lack of staff interest and the acceptance of unruly behaviour made this site very intimidating and unwelcoming.

Not going to mention toilet block except to say if a new one gets built all the better outdated now but ok for a few units on site if basic in showers as no where to put ones clothes. Please all campers if you have kids look after them not nice letting rubbish go down river banks pick it up or the site owners will ban you ;oh and please no noise after 11pm that does mean 11 and not 4am!

Ok apart from some mindless idiots, the field is very good mostly flat and one of the best I have stayed on with the sound and sights of trains great location! Now the pub is excellent the best food and value you will find and thanks too all the staff who made my stay wonderful. The breakfast is under £5 and the ploughmans is to die for under £5!

Enjoy this site it really is good!

We arrived around 1pm on a Monday afternoon of the school summer holidays, so did not know what to expect. The site was fairly quiet with only about 9 or 10 tents located around the field.

We were told that is was very busy at the weekend and almost full as their had been some kind of event on. We were shocked when we seen the bins area as it was an absolute eyesore and a potential health hazard, I had never witnessed so many wasps and flies in my life. Some of the bags had been ripped open by some kind of animals, maybe local cats but who knows. We believe the bins were only like this due to the busy weekend they had had but they were not emptied until the Tuesday.

After checking in we were told we could find our own pitch anywhere along the river bank or near the bottom of the field. We opted for a quiet location near the river which was just perfect. Whilst putting the tent up the daughter had a wonder over to the children's play area and made friends straight away. The playground has about 5 slides of various designs, a couple of swings, swing bench, climbing frames and a tyre snake to try and walk over.

The pub which is open from 8am until when ever is just perfect with a good selection of beers. The food is very reasonable with most meals around the £6 mark. Their was a children's menu and a snacks menu also available. The only problem we had with the pub was again the wasps on the outside seating area, never have we seen so many in one location. There is either a nest very near by or the wasps were attracted to the site by the weekends bin overload. Apparently we over heard someone say they were there about 6 weeks previous and they never noticed one single wasp during their stay, so perhaps we were unlucky. The pub opens up for breakfast at around 8am and what a treat that is. Very reasonable prices again.

The toilet facilities are a bit on the poor side but do the job. We were told my the manager they are in the state they are because of fellow campers and it is your own doing. Well it would not take more than a few seconds to go around with a feather duster once a week and clean the spiders, flies, moths, wasps plus the other creatures and cobwebs. All they needed were a bit of TLC and I don't think they get it.

Overall the site is in a beautiful location with the river the one side and the steam trains of the Severn valley the side. The trains come past about every 45mins which is a pleasure to see. Hampton Loade station is only a 5 min walk away if that far. Their is also a boat that goes across the river to another pub/restaurant but this stops at 6pm (the boat not the pub).

Would I go back. Yes, we loved it.

We were invited to a medieval feast to celebrate my cousins 50th birthday. We all dressed up in costumes. It was a good way of getting all the family together as we are all spread out both north and south of here.

The site owner provided us with plenty of room to set up a marquee, gazebo's and bouncy castle plus all our tents, caravan, motor home etc. He also cooked a lot of the food for us, legs of lamb, pork, beef and jacket potatoes. There was a lot more than that I just cant remember it all, there was so much!

We had a lovely meal in the pub on friday night with quite a few people (about 20) and although it was pre-ordered it took quite a while for the meal to come, but when it did, it was well worth the wait!

The portions were massive. The food was hot. It was all very tasty. Top marks there and well done to the chef.

We did have to use the toilet block from time to time and yes, it does need updating, but the shower I used was comfortably hot and refreshing. What more could you ask?

All in all it did what it was meant to do.

On the down side, apparently,a lot of the members of our party were kept awake till early hours by young boys and girls, screaming and laughing and swearing throughout the night, even driving up and down to the toilets in the cars at that time of night, which someone had to have words with them about. Fortunately for us, we didn't hear a thing as we were further away from them.

The site doesn't seem to have a policy of no same sex groups like most sites have now.

It didn't stop us all from having a ball, even if it was a medieval ball.

I wouldn't use the site again personally, because we don't have children and tend to look for a site without those facilities, ie play areas etc.

Also it became very crowded on sat and sunday.

All in all a good review.

Staying for one night as our first 'outside of the backgarden' camping expedition.

We arrived at the site having known about it from previously visiting the Hampton Loade Severn Valley Railway station located within a hundred yards or so, some years before.

The kids immediately made use of the well kept and safe grassed play area. The site had a barrier pass key entry system which gave us a good sense of security. The site manager booked us in told us the do's and don't's and where to set up.

We set up and then made very good use of the pub! The food is proper grub. Tasty generous portions, well made and excellent service.

The beer was well kept with a couple of proper ales on tap.

Next morning we had a fantastic Full English breakfast each - Bostin.

When booking out we were invited to stay again, which was nice.

' A very good first camping experience'

Ok, so we went to visit friends and I have to say it is, sadly, all but the worst site I have been on in nearly 40 years of camping / caravanning.

If you fish then yes there is a river but the toilets are a ramshackle old building that seriously needs knocking down. Hot water is all but none existent, the unmade tracks are awful, pitches are cramped and there is not enough parking spaces. However, that said, its one saving grace, the Unicorn pub, is superb!

Sadly, we were looking for a weekend hideaway and I doubt I will ever go there again. The approach with a caravan is narrow with few passing places and at the time of our visit was very busy and hence stress full to the driver!

Despite the weather we had a good time. The pub served good food all day and the staff were very helpful.

The site is on the banks of the river Severn and is ideal location for the Severn valley railway.

There was some building work going on which the manager explained it was urgent maintenance work that would be complete in two weeks, he did apologise for the inconvenience caused.

There is a toilet/shower block on site which was cleaned every day, it was basic but did the job.

We have planned to return to the site for the next bank holiday weekend.
