The Rose and Crown hosted us over the Bank Holiday Weekend for two nights.
When looking at UKCampsite. Co. Uk, we were surprised how few reviews the site had, and given there were about 15 pitches taken up this past weekend it will be interesting to see whether more reviews are posted.
Upon arrival you are requested to book in at the bar.
The owners were very polite and friendly and called an assistant to show us to our pitch. We were also shown the facilities which were very limited and consisted of a female and male toilet / shower block, water point and elson point.
The site consists of a couple of large fields that hosts tents and caravans, as well as having a number of holiday static vans that are available to hire.
The shower blocks were very dated and not in great condition. That being said, the showers themselves provided lots of lovely hot water and for us their condition was not a major issue. I would guess for some it would be.
The pub is a friendly pub, again a bit dated and frequented mostly by the locals. We tried out their menu upon arrival. The food was freshly cooked and of good quality. A homemade cheese burger with hand cut chips and salad was 5. 95 so not excessive and a nice start to the weekend.
The pub enthusiastically promote their Sunday lunches and rightly so, they are superb. Plentiful portions, brilliant homemade Yorkshire puddings (no Aunt Bessies here) a real highlight. We enjoyed 7 meals(two for kids)plus three cokes for under 40 pounds.
The location of the site was good for us. With no shop on site, Holbeach is a small town a couple of miles away with a Tesco and a few other shops for all you will need. The bigger towns of Wisbech and Spalding are about 15 - 20 minutes away. The seaside towns of Hunstanton and Skegness are about 45 minutes drive away in different directions.
Despite the lack of facilities and the condition of them, we enjoyed our short stay very much. The friendliness of the people more than compensate and at 20 pounds per night we felt it was good value.
A huge plus point for our large family is that you are able to stay as long as you wish on the day you are leaving. We find it detracts from our breaks when you must be off of the site by 10am, so well done Rose and Crown for that. Well done also for not taking liberties with charging extra for dogs, extra children etc.
You cannot help but wish these people well and hope that some of their planned improvements come to fruition for next season, when we will definitely visit again.

A reasonable site a bit off the beaten track with no other amenities in the village. The pub was friendly, the beer good and the food good value pub grub - not cuisine but acceptable. The shower/loo blocks were extremely dated and in need of complete refurbishment. The ladies were ok but my OH tells me that the gents were foul! The motorhome service point was non existent. I suppose that once upon a time it may have been in existence, but the static vans now surround the amenities block which means you need a long hose to fill with fresh water. Luckily my OH is always well prepared so we were able to fill from a distance. In conclusion, a quiet site in need of a serious renovation, but nice to be next to a pub. Wish we had noticed the special offer and rung up to book in advance - we would have had the site fees deducted from our meal bill.

Our second visit to this site that is situated behind the pub in a small village be aware there are no shops within walking distance so you need to make sure you have all you need. There is a small toilet block in ladies two loos and a shower these have been improved since our last visit. We chose a pitch in a field on the edge of the site which was nice and quite and we did not hear any noise from the pub which serves food but we did not eat there so cannot comment we use this site on our way to Norfolk and will do again
Should we travel to Norfolk or Suffolk.

Site of contrasts. Friendliest people ever, excellent ales but food revolting. Site pleasant enough but ablutions need improvement. Shower areas flood including the toilets, take your waders. No shower heads just open pipes. Elgoods ales are excellent, staff in the pub and restaurant very helpful and friendly. However the food was atrocious. Medium rare steak arrived very well done, chips were soggy, greasy, almost as if cooked earlier and microwaved. Mushrooms greasy sickly slop. Meat pie bland, salty and with 3 dollops of 'smash' all covered in salty packet gravy. Stay here but be aware of the toilets, drink the beer, chat to the staff but don't eat.

Had a warm welcome here at this very friendly pub, just as pubs should be. The real ale was excellent and. The food very tasty and great value for money. The pub seems to be at the heart of the village as there are no shops or post office left open
There are a number of statics on site, and also lots of vans on seasonal pitches, plus some in storage.
It was badly let down by the camp toilets, which were frankly disgusting and in need of some refurbishment. The 2 showers flooded and the water also flooded the floors of the toilets themselves. The floor was muddy and there was no mop available, although the next morning one did appear outside of the building.
I paid £15 for myself and the van, and would have expected better for this, considering what I was paying elsewhere on this trip.

Just come back from this site after a 3 night stay. Site is nice and big, spacious plots. Toilet and showers clean but dated. There was a little wooded area behind our tents where the kids played and a playground area on the back of the pub. Nearest shop in Holbeach (Tesco) turn right onto A17 then at roundabout turn left. Plenty of country lanes to walk along but we didn't as weather turned horrid. Pub looks nice but didn't eat or drink there. The specials on here need to be mentioned when booking apparently, as we found this out when we arrived. All in all a lovely little site for a few days break. Would stop again on route to Norfolk etc

This was our second visit to this site, was going to write a review last year but I forgot and nothing has changed between the two visits.
Even though the site was very busy over the Easter weekend I never had any problems with queues. The toilets were all blocked on the Saturday morning but it was sorted out quickly and there were no more issues the rest of the week. The showers were good, and free.
Loved the pub's atmosphere, just how a village pub should be, and the sunday roasts are highly recommended. Nice beer garden and kids' play area.
My Vodafone dongle was very iffy on site - but if you're BT you can use the pub's BT wifi, although if you aren't pitched close you'll need to sit in the beer garden or pub to get a good signal.
I paid £15 per night inc. EHU & awning.
Yes, it is a long way from the nearest shops, and there are quite a few speed cameras dotted around locally - the speed limits seem to change very frequently so watch out for them!

A spacious site set in a peaceful location with great night skies.
The site and pub (Elgoods beer) had a ‘no frills’ 1970s feel to me which I enjoyed. We did not eat there but the menu looked good with main courses well under £10.
Facilities block (showers free); whilst somewhat dated was perfectly functional and well maintained.
Make sure you arrive with provisions as the nearest shop we found were in Holbeach. (4 miles)
To sum up: A pleasantly unsophisticated site yet possessing all the facilities with enough room for enthusiast (eg vintage car / bike) rallys.

Well what can I say, entertained from start to finish.
We arrived first week in August and were made very welcome, this is a very deceptive site with plenty of space we had the choice of electric hook ups which we were shown to by good old Baz.
The toilet and shower facilities are basic but clean and the showers are free, if the site was full I think they could get very busy. Beware though if you don't want woken up at 5am by the local cockerels bring some ear plugs
The pub was reasonably priced and the Sunday Roast took a bit of eating its a must though.
Thanks also must go to Daz who came to the rescue when we had a dead battery even on his day off.
All in all an excellent week. Thanks to the rose and Crown Team, would certainly come again.

We stayed there for august bank holiday after baz had gone out of his way to make sure all our party had pitches together,
The place is really nice and every one is so friendly, the toilets and showers were good with plenty of hot water,
The only thing that wasn't great was the washing up sink they could do with more than one! This is only a small thing, the rest of the place more than makes up for it we have already booked to return next year,
The pub is a nice place with fair prices and the food is great! The site is well kept and tidy with loads of apple trees!
The nearest supermarket is a drive away but that is no hardship. As it is so quiet and peaceful except the chickens on the morning! On the whole a great place to stay and the prices are very reasonable.
