Arrived at the site and were pleasantly surprised, the owners were very friendly and always working on the site. The women's toilet/shower block was excellent, the men's still in progress. We went to the pub over the road (not a busy noisy road) and we had hoped to get a meal but they don't serve food anymore so we ordered a Chinese take a way. Steve was very helpful and informative. We visited Aston old market. We did not take any children so unable to make a comment.
We will be going back

We decided to try this site as local to us with the Grandchildren age 10 and 6 plus the dog. Arrived friday and Steve warmly greeted us and shown us our Pitch. The Drive is through a housing Estate but once you get on site you could be anywhere. Ladies Toilets were very good and Modern, the Mens are not finished but hubby used the Shower from the Pub and he said it was very good. Not much for the Grandchildren to do in way of a park but they enjoyed it all the same. There are a couple of small slides and a small trampoline that they played on. The Dog walk was good for the dog but it was overgrown and a big area. On the Saturday Steve did a Barby we had already eaten but we did go down and had a chat with some of the other campers which was nice. We did not use the Pub over the road so cannot comment. We all had a lovely time. Steve Julie are very helpful always doing something on the site we will certainly be back.

Found this site through the search option after having that 'got to be in the van' moment at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. Quick phone call, very helpful owner. Arrived and set up by 6.
When driving to the site I was a little worried as you are driving through an industrial estate. However once we spotted the gates we were knocked out by how lovely the pitches were in the old beer garden.
Steve helped us set up and settle in. He showed us where everything was and even offered to pull a paddling pool out for the kids.
I swear the guy didn't stop working all the time we were there. He currently renovating the gents facilities and if they are even half as good as the ladies then your gonna get very good value for your money.
The showers were lush. Unlimited hot water, two spray head power showers. So clean you could eat off the floor. There was even an emergency supply of toiletries for those that are a little forgetful ( really nice touch)
Toilets very clean, good supply of toilet roll and even sanitiser wipes on hand if you wanted them
( another nice touch).
Had such a good time that some friends brought their van down the second day and Steve managed to pitch them next to us. What a star!
Behind the site, through the gate, there is a field for dog and child walking. Lots of fun had in the wooded area. Base and den building
Managed to have a little fire pit on the Saturday night before the heavens opened. Next time we will managed marshmallows.
We will definitely be going back for another last minute get away.

The approach to the site from Oldham was unusual but we had a warm welcome at the gate and the pitch was excellent. Steve gave us a first rate run down on facilities and was fantastically helpful in chauffeuring me around Oldham to find a replacement gas bottle.
The site itself offers all expected facilities and gave us a quiet restful night. Steve kindly dropped us off at the METRO for the short trip into Manchester which makes the site even more attractive.
We had an excellent takeaway from the Jade Chinese which was a short walk away.
Overall a friendly, convenient and clean site that we won't hesitate to revisit.

Just returned from a few nights at the Hawthorne. It is set up simply with all you need for a few nights stop. The owner is extremely helpful.
The location is surprising. It appears to be in quite a built up area if approached from one side, but in countryside if approached from the other. Don't be put off by the heavy gates and fencing. Within minutes you can be walking in open countryside or getting a bus/ Metro into Manchester or surrounding areas. Shops only minutes away too.
The site is still being improved with better toilet facilities etc.
If you need a convenient stop for Manchester, try the Hawthorne.

Hubby and I took our campervan for just one night's stop over so we could be close to Stalybridge where we planned to visit a friend the following day.
This is a great little gated site so very secure. Not the most picturesque drive through the town to find it so it doesn't score highly in that respect but it's a great location for the Metro Link service in to Manchester if needed and the site was pretty and the facilities ample.
The owners could not have been more accommodating and the pub opposite was fine for our evenings entertainment! As advertised, very limited facilities for children but we had none!
Real value for money and on this basis, I suspect we will be back!

I recently spent two nights at the Hawthorne and would like to express how helpful & welcoming the owner Steve was. The site itself, although fairly small, has all the facilities you need and you don't experience queues or long waiting times for showers etc. Location-wise, it's perfect if you're going into Manchester as the Metrolink tram station is about a ten minute walk away. When I went, Steve even gave me a lift to the station which was very much appreciated. I certainly anticipate using this site again in the future.

Spent a weekend here and used The Hawthorne as a base for visiting Manchester.
This is the closest site to the city centre, which is 7 miles away. A 20 minute walk from the site gets you to a tram stop for direct a access to Manchester Picadilly area. It's a great place for a visit with lots going on.
The site itself is excellent. The owners are really friendly and accommodating and even gave me a lift to the tram stop! The facilities are good and there's a nice local pub directly opposite the site. The site is popular so there's some work going on to update and expand at present.
All in all, a great little site. Will use again when returning to Manchester.

My wife and I stayed at the site again this December as we have a Christmas dinner in Oldham with friends every year.
We cannot fault the site, it fitted our needs perfectly. It is on the edge of Oldham so great for the town and within a minute you are in the countryside if walking is your thing. It is easy to find and has a pub opposite and an excellent Chinese/Indian/fish n chip shop just up the road. Nice hot showers, clean toilets, very fast wifi which was great as I had to log in to work to answer some emails. I used the chemical waste disposal, hook-up, fresh water for the motor-home and all were fine. To top it off the owners are really nice and very helpful. I just cannot fault it!

What a great owner. A real gentleman, and nothing was too much trouble.
Just a short drive into the city.
Ample walks of the surrounding hillsides.
Lovely quiet location.
The owner made us feel at home from the minute he opened the secure gates for us.
We had choice of hard standing, or grass, we decided hard, with the wet weather.
Plenty of electric points, so only a short lead required.
Several fresh water points dotted around the site.
The owner is currently having new shower and toilet blocks built, but the existing ones are already good.
Oh, and there is lashings and lashings of super hot water for great showers.
Nice place.
Gra.
