Came to stay in oldham for a family party and stayed at the hawthorne with my parents my nephew and his girlfriend and we where met by the owners and they where very very helpful and the campsite is a little gem, the shower rooms are clean and tidy. The owners go the extra mile for you as we could not get a taxi for 5 and the owner ordered a taxi for us and then took 2 of our party in his own car and they also allowed us to wait in their home until the taxi arrived. My family and I are planning on returning to hawthorne for many years to come and thank the owners yet again for there kindness and there welcome.
Very highly recommended

I have just stayed at this campsite and found it to be a lovely little place, the toilets were clean the shower was better than any campsite that I have stayed on before. There were six of us staying and we all enjoyed it felt very safe as there is a gate and fencing all around so if you are all females no problems. The owners are a lovely couple who will do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable and went the extra mile when we had a taxi dilemma. Shops in walking distance nice walks if your into that. We had a little walk to the dog and partridge pub took us two minute walking slow, Nice friendly pub no loud music old and a gem. I will be visiting this campsite again hopefully.

Myself and my family just bought a tent, for our first trip we came to the Hawthorne. We didn't know what to expect, the grounds are lovely and the owners and their family are very lovely and friendly. We have small children and was given a slide for them to play on. The shower and toilet block are clean. The site is small but we loved it and the kids really enjoyed themselves, whilst there isn't a great deal of space for the kids to run around there is a field available to go to, the children found lots of butterfly's and birds there. For 8 of us (2adults, 4 children and 2 infants)we paid £20 for a night, it's worth the money, we will definitely visit again.

Fantastic owners, they were extremely helpful and go that extra mile to help.
The site is well maintained with easy to use secure gates. They have pitches mostly level we didn't need to adjust anything but I can't say that for them all as we only used the one area. Large car park with electric hook up for the bigger caravans etc.
Toilets and showers clean with walks from site, great for the dog.
Easy access to Manchester and the Peak District.
Its a hidden gem of a place.
Highly recommend and we will be back for longer next time.

I stayed here with two friends for a girly weekend of catch ups & camping. We visited with a classic campervan, huge awning and one car. We were allocated a great large flat pitch with plenty of room and parking nearby for the car. Pitches are spaced out nicely so whilst you are aware of your neighbours, your not all on top of each other.
The grounds are immaculately kept and are well structured. Accommodating our extra hook up lead was no problem and Steve even lent us an extension cable. We felt extremely safe at all times on the site, which is secured by big iron gates at all times. Once we were pitched up, we sat back enjoying the sunshine with a few cold beers, we really could have been anywhere in the country or even Europe, if you get the weather this site is a great suntrap and we all have red shoulders to show for it! Very peaceful and relaxing!
Pub across the road was very small and a little bit strange, they weren't serving food when we went in (7. 30pm on a Saturday night!) but we turned right out of the site, walked up the hill for about 5 minutes and found a great Chinese/Chippy, very cheap and food was excellent! The family in the next caravan to us, told us that there are a few other takeaways nearby which might be worth looking in to next time we visit.
There are toilets & a shower on site, a little basic but clean, the shower was very much appreciated in the morning. Just outside the toilets is a large sink for pots & pans and also a toilet chemical disposal site. Overall a great weekend all for the bargain price of £14!

We had just bought a caravan and wanted somewhere fairly local to try it out.
On arrival we were met by the very friendly owners Steve and Julie who made us feel very welcome and who were also very helpful.
The site has beautiful garden pitches and also a hard standing area to pitch on.
The toilets are lovely and clean - equipped with plenty of toilet roll, soap, hot water, sanitising spray etc. There is also a spacious shower.
There is a Chemical Disposal Point and an area for washing up - again kept lovely and clean.
The site is situated across from the local pub, only a few miles from the centre of Oldham.
Highly recommended as a base for touring the local area or as a one night stop over.

This site is a little gem, we wanted to go to the Etihad stadium to see Bon Jovi, so I rang up and booked a pitch for one night, The owners couldn't have been more helpful on the phone and when we got there. The tram stop to Manchester is a 15 min walk and we were even offered a lift by Steve.
The ticket for all day travel on the Trams was £4. 90. Bargain. The sites toilets were very clean as was the rest of the site. Secure, clean and friendly all for £9! The test for me is, would we go back? Yes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the site.

I have visited this neat little site twice in the last month. The owners are a lovely couple, they go out of their way to make you welcome. This is an ideal site for walkers, or just to relax as you are surrounded by countryside. There is a quiet little pub across the road, The Dog &Partridge. It is also very handy for anyone as a stopover to visit relatives or friends aroud Oldham or Manchester. There is a grocery shop and Chippy within a few hundred yards. The toilets and showers are clean and adequate for the 5 motorhomes, which this site accommodates. The cost is very reasonable, £11. 50 with E. H. U. Per night. We will definitely visit again.

I booked at The Hawthorne on the basis that I would only need a place to park up for 3 nights while I visited family and therefore I had no real expectations to speak of. I will however be visiting again. And soon! The owners were incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The site is relatively new, but it's clear to see from the landscaping work that is currently being undertaken, that this will very soon be an even more lovely site.
The site has electricity, water, toilet and shower facilities which I found to be more than adequate. Lovely to hear the chickens in the garden, feel as if you are totally in the countryside yet be so close to Oldham and its surrounds.
I do recommend a visit to the very friendly Dog and Partridge across the road. As a woman travelling on my own, I felt the site was more than secure and was also confident that if I had had any concerns or questions, Julie and Steve would have been more than happy to help me out. My ratings are based on my own personal requirements of this particular trip.
There were no children present with me on this journey, but I know that if my grandson had been with me he would have enjoyed the play equipment, the chickens and the beautiful dog and the ready access to lovely walks.

This is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Oldham!
My wife and I needed a site with hookup to pitch for a few days as we were attending a Christmas dinner in Oldham and were worried we would have to go right out into the wild before we found The Hawthorne through this site.
The site is very secure and has a great washroom, showers and toilet located in the old pub. The views out the back of the moors are nice and a stones throw (a path at the side of the site leads into the country) and you are in the countryside. I can only agree with other reviews, the owners are really nice and friendly and the site ticked all our boxes. If you need food then there is a chippy - chinese - indian a few 100 yards up the road and across from the site there is a nice friendly pub.
We would stay here again for sure and I intend to use it again next Christmas.
