Steve and Nicky were great owners and made our stay very pleasant.
Hawthorne was a good stopover with all the basic amenities you need for a short stay.

Stayed here for the second year in a row and again want to report on what a fantastic little site The Hawthorne is!
Now focused as a Campsite and motorhome/caravan site, you will be made to feel at home and like no ask is too much by the site's very friendly owners. The location is away from the town centre and so quiet at night, in particular the pitching area is quiet and calm as it is surrounded by fields but with plenty of space to bring your car next to where you are pitched.
Electric Hook-up is available for anyone with a day/night van, motorhome or caravan charged at reasonable rates. For those with a motorhome or caravan there are multiple hard-standings, speak to them on the phone prior to arrival to make sure you have a pitch the right size.
Toilets on site are adequate for the site's size (bring crocs for trips to the shower). I couldn't recommend this site any more highly for the showers. Included in the pitch price, there is always hot water. It's fantastic. They are powerful and you will get your preferred water temperature just like at home. It was one of the features that stood out to me the first time I stayed here in 2022 and they are still just as good this year.
Dishwashing, laundry and chemical toilet disposal facilities are all available on site too, although I didn't use these myself as I was there for a short stay and used the on site toilets.
The pub part of the business was not operating while I visited, but the owners helpfully advised there are at least 3 other pubs within a 5 minute walk.
Overall it's a brilliant little site as a base, very reasonably priced and the owners and staff are genuinely such nice people that it makes a great team!

Handy for the tram into Manchester.
Steve the owner is chatty enough but toilets need an upgrade and the metered electric is a joke constantly running out and have to go begging for another 3 pounds worth of electric to be added.

We stopped here for a couple of nights to visit the Manchester museums and galleries. We didn't spend much time on the site as it was just a base.
Plus points: location is great for access to tram network just a 15 min walk away then a journey of about 30 mins into central Manchester.
Easy to find site using sat nav. Very friendly, flexible and helpful owners. Reasonably priced per night with hook up.
Cons: First impressions on arrival are not great as part of the site looks more like a well worn, mostly residential park or travellers community.
Main negative is the current state of the toilets and showers which are gruesome, in a very poor state and in dire need of investment.

A rustic camping field and Motorhome service pitches.
Very convenient for Manchester by tram.
Facilities have been improved or so I am told, a little more TLC would not go amiss!
Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Booked this site as it had good reviews and we needed to be near the tram link as my husband needed to get into Manchester. Disappointed as seemed to be mainly permanent residents / serviced pitches.
I only noticed 3 tourist pitches whilst we were there. We were put up against the fence by a primary school, very noisy although seems there are plans to erect further fencing. Where we were seemed to be 'squeezed in' rather than it's own pitch.
The loos / showers were in a state when we arrived but better after cleaning although no loo roll and no locks on the loos and only one of the two showers (that flooded the floor when used and the painted concrete floor was not easy to mop up!).
The pub was not open (apparently did a roaring trade during lockdown due to the outside seating area so a great pity). We walked to the local Manor Inn but it did not do food.
Would highly recommend the Jade Gardens Chinese Takeway, good food and excellent value.

This is a fantastic little oasis of a site on the sleepy outskirts of Oldham. Proper helpful folk with a relaxed attitude, great service and great facilities. I would recommend this site wholeheartedly to anyone looking to stay in the area.
The camping and motorhome spaces are to the back of The Hawthorne pub, itself a fun place for a drink or two with bar staff in good spirits and the best prices in the area for drinks.
The camping facilities are excellent - good space for tents, great hardstanding pitches for vans and motorhomes, electric hookup included in the price, proper plumbed toilets in a heated block, and best of all, EXCELLENT showering facilities. These are seriously the best showers I've been in on any campsite, ever.
The proprietor and staff pull out the stops even serving fried bacon/egg/sausage baps in the mornings at certain times of year - it's unique!
I really haven't seen a site like this before and I rate it. I'll be coming back!
