We visited Beecraigs for a 4 night stay in out tourer over the May bank holiday weekend. It was the first time for us at this site and it definitely won't be the last. Despite one or two very minor niggles this site is absolutely fantastic, especially considering it is a council run facility.

The site is situated in the heart of a large country park just outside Linlithgow. The approach roads to the site all take you up a very steep hill with some sharp bends, so bear this in mind if a novice at towing. Staff at the visitor centre were exceptionally friendly and helpful re the booking.

Access to the site is through 'swipe'card operated barrier for which you pay a deposit at the time of booking, this is returned to you at then end of your stay. The restaurant at the entrance to the site has shut down completely.

The pitches are HUGE! Very generous hardstanding pitches. There are about 6 'cul de sac' bays with about 6 pitches in each area, so about 36 or so pitches in total. We stayed in the Hazel bay, which, along with the one next to it, felt the least overlooked by the trees, and the most open. There are lovely views over to one side of the site, with mainly woodland around the remainder of the perimeter. There was a beautiful tent pitch area with its own shower and toilet block. Pitches all have hookup although there are no serviced pitches, but plenty water, waste and disposal area nearby.

Toilet and shower blocks were very good, the usual laundry and washing up areas. 2 out of the 5 showers were not working whilst we were there, which was a bit disappointing. The shower cubicles are fantastic though, like your own ensuite, with shower, toilet and wash hand basin, bench and hooks. Plenty of room and a good sized shelf above the sink. Although the shower and toilet block does not close for cleaning, the cleaner is in at least a couple of times a day, it does say that hot water is available only between the hours of 7am-10am, and 6pm-9pm! This makes the availability of hot water even less than, if say, the block was to shut for an hour or so! A good selection of tourist information in the laundry room.

There is a small play park on the site itself, and, much to the extreme delight of our children, and the in laws children, ranging in age from 14 through to 5, the park rangers had obviously created a whole range of dens, wooden seating areas made from logs, bower type constructions, all dotted around in amongst the wooded areas that sat behind the pitches. They LOVED this! This was such a great idea, the kids just had the most amazing time exploring in the woods and discovering the little areas. I really had to stop myself from pointing out the irony of their comments to one caravanner who, about 9pm, came out of their van to tell the kids to get out of the woods as he could hear them playing and that meant he couldn't hear his TV! (Quiet time on site is 10pm -8am and mine are all in their beds by 10!). Well done to the wonderful park rangers for such ingenuity.

There is a great wee visitor centre with loads of local info, it also sells lovely venison and various condiments and locally produced honey. Further along from the visitor centre is a beautiful walk around Beecraigs Loch. About another 10 mins walk from the site is a huge play park with a brilliant range of play equipment, flying fox, climbing frames, etc. The kids loved this.

Linlithgow itself is a nice wee town, plenty of shops, cafés, supermarkets. It is definitely NOT walking distance from the site though.

Great base for visiting Edinburgh or, as we did, the Helix Park just outside Falkirk, to visit the Kelpies. Well worth a visit.

Really liked this site and, apart from the 2 broken showers, it was as near to perfect as you can get. Would be beautiful in the autumn. 9/10 definitely.

One of the best sites we have ever been on. Very nicely set out so that you are not overlooked and very large gravel surfaced site. The shower rooms are better than some en suites in hotels. All the facilities were spotless and maintained to a very high standard.

The reception is now at the park centre which is just past the entrance to the site and on the right. The shop there sells fresh and frozen venison from their own farm. As it is in a country park there is plenty of dog walks starting at the campsite.

Linlithgow has all the shops you would need and is worth having a wander round.

Absolute cracker of a site. Well kept and maintained. Pitches are spacious and level. BBQ facilities on site. Facilities are immaculate. A must for people who enjoy being outside and enjoy walking. Good restaurant on site however fish and chips a must from Golden Chip in Linlithgow. Don't be put off that the site is council run. In my opinion it is far superior to many private sites. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Brilliant that the site is open all year.

Spent 5 nights at Beecraigs. Toilets and showers very spacious and immaculate. The pitch sizes are huge but like someone else mentioned we also had a lot of cigarette ends left on the pitch from the previous occupant. The site itself is in a lovely location and there is a lovely playpark near where the tent pitches are, and a massive big play area when you walk through one of the lovely walk ways where an ice cream van sits which also sells tea's and coffee's. There are many BBQ areas on site for people to use and there are picnic benches too. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, quality of food was great although some items rather pricey. We would certainly recommend the site and look forward to going back later in the year.

On arrival I had to wait 15 minutes to be booked in, you have to book in at the Restaurant and with only two girls working they had to wait at the tables, serve customers at the bar and do the caravan site reception! This was no problem to us but families who have done a long journey with young children could do without such a long wait!

Once on site the faculties are very good, large gravel hard standing pitches, the toilet block was always spotless and has very large individual shower rooms with a sink, toilet, hair dryer, heater. Better than at home!

We did eat in the Restaurant one evening and found the food very average and expensive for the quality. Much better Restaurants and pubs in Linlithgow we recommend Barleo a fantastic Italian Restaurant with quality food and friendly staff!

One other little problem was that the gravel on our pitch was littered with cigarette ends. Yuk! Again this could be a problem for families, I can picture toddlers crawling around and picking up a cigarette end and we all know where things toddlers pick up go. In the mouth!

But this is a lovely site in fantastic surroundings and as my son lives in Edinburgh we will go back to Beecraigs when we go up to visit him!

This site is high above Linlithgow but is surrounded by trees and so is quite well sheltered. The pitches are large enough for the biggest caravan or motorhome and are all hardstandings. The toilets are clean and the service points are well located for convenience. There is a children's' playground near the camping area [which also looks well laid out]. Security is very well taken care of with electronically operated barriers at the entrance and exit. The site is well-maintained by West Lothian council and is clean and neat [A pile of dog mess which had been left by a dogwalker in the middle of a grassy area had been cleared up a few hours later] There are no 'speed bumps' or any other calming device on the site roads and some cars were moving faster than I would have liked with children in the vicinity. I did not visit the restaurant which, although on-site, is operated by a different agency. Linlithgow [about two miles away] is a good place to spend a few days, with the Palace and the loch worth a visit. The Scottish Korean War Memorial is fairly close and, although under renovation, is a beautiful place to sit and contemplate. Beecraigs Country Park [in which the site is located] provides miles of good walking country and has a large play area for children. I would recommend the site to all.

Enormous spacious pitches on hardstanding but easily took rock pegs for awning. Scenic forest setting, unusual layout as caravans grouped in 5/6 flower petal formation - no overlooking. 16 amp electric with dusk lamp on unit, could be reset without warden! Immaculate and spacious heated toilets and wetrooms, best by far on any site we've visited. Includes free hairdryer, hand dryer, liquid soap. NO push button showers and hot water was unlimited. Historic Linlithgow a five minute drive, lots of lovely walks within park - ideal for dog owners. Restaurant with bar on site. Ideal site for visiting Falkirk Wheel, (2o min drive)Edinburgh or Glasgow(about 40 mins). A bargain at £17 per night including EHU. Would thoroughly recommend :-)

Stayed for one night at this very picturesque site - one of only three vans on the newly laid gravel pitches. Wooded areas and views galore.

Easy access through suburbs but beware all of the speed bumps!

Facilities: some of the best shower and wash rooms we have seen - super clean and endless hot water. Key coded so secure too.

Restaurant closed as no customers so can't comment. Supermarkets in suburbs and takeaway available - only a few minutes drive.

Children's play areas well-maintained - wood chipped beneath swings for soft landings.

£10 deposit for the site key required on arrival, repaid on departure.

Nice site, toilets very clean and warm. With in a country park so plenty to do. Tried the restaurant food was good and staff were friendly. The only bad thing I can say is some of the pitches are sheltered by trees so not much sunlight gets in. This can make the pitch feel damp and cold.

They have a small area for tents and a small BBQ area.

Campsite is in the Forest so loads of space for the kids to run about.

Excellent site, beautiful setting. If you want peace and quiet this is the place to visit.

Good sized pitches and TV signal.

Warden was very helpful. Back Room staff do a great job of keeping the facilities spotlessly clean.

Toilet/shower facilities excellent (plenty of room and ample hot water)Best facilities on any campsite we have stayed (just like having your own bathroom)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our meal in the restaurant was lovely.

We will certainly use this site again.
