We used this camp site during the Olympics. It was handy for the train into central London, had plenty of open space for the kids and had everything we needed. The toilet/shower block was okay, maybe ready for an upgrade, but it was decent. There were a few caravans but it was mainly tents when we visited. The owners were friendly and helpful. If you wanted to visit the Essex coast this would be a perfect base, even to spend some time in and around Brentwood which has plenty to offer.

Really lovely peaceful site. Very sheltered. Wardens very helpful. Facilities good. Return to London by train is about £15. Under flight path but planes quite high so not too bad.
Only problem was that I found the area pretty boring, and once I'd seen the nuclear bunker (not to be missed) and the Tilbury Fort there seemed little else.
Also found local drivers were rude and impatient. Pity we can't pick the site up and plonk it down in a nicer place.

This was my first visit to a camping and caravan club site. It was like going back in time to the 1960's - the electricity tripped constantly, the whole site was plunged into darkness every 20 mins or so every evening and the same at breakfast time. the warden was reduced to spending most of the day and night to re-setting the main trip switch.
The drainage was very poor and for an area supposedly in drought the site was a mud bath.
When you arrive there is nowhere to pull off the access road so people are waiting behind anyone who is arriving at the site.
The toilet block has no heating at all is freezing cold (we had frost while there)and extremely dated.
There was a sewerage problem twice in 4 days meaning that some of the only 4 toilets (for all the men on site)were out of service.
The warden worked tirelessly the whole time but there are fundamental problems that can only be solved by a large investment to bring this site up to modern standards.
TV reception is almost non existent even if you had the mains power to watch it!I certainly would not return to this site which given its proximity to London should be a goldmine

Visited this site for our second ever outing in our tourer. This site is close to where we live, so convenient for us to get on site and put up our full awning for the first time!
We were warmly greeted and allowed to select our own pitch. We chose a hardstanding with hook up, and the water and waste facilities were conveniently nearby.
The toilet and shower block was spotlessly clean, although a little outdated. I did not use the laundry or washing up facilities, but these seemed basic, but functional. The site as a whole seems well maintained.
This is a lovely site, and suited us down to the ground for the purpose of our visit. We were lucky with the weather and our son enjoyed the play area.
We would definitely consider visiting again, especially for a quick get away!

My husband and I have been to kelvedon hatch a few times and each time we go it does not disappoint, the wardens are always very friendly and helpful. The first time we visited this site was for a weekend it is so peaceful there it seemed like we had been away a week we felt so rested. The area is beautiful just down the road there is a country park where the kids can go and feed the deer, there is also a fishing lake (day ticket I think)situated in the park, we went walking in the woods there and you can also picnic on the hill which overlooks the whole park and of course if you like the town Brentwood is just up the road, we also thought the toilets and showers were very clean and the wardens are on the go all the time. The play area for the kids is good and they play in the dog walk too maybe the only criticism I might have is maybe the shop could be stocked with a bit more in the way of food items other than that they are stuck with us as regulars I'm afraid.

Stayed for 2 nights, the wardens were very friendly and helpful, and kept everything clean.
Yes the showers are a little old but very clean with excellent power and hot water. Had a grass pitch with hook up which was a good size and positioned nicely for the sun.
The site is only 15 miles from home but felt like we were in the middle of a forest. All in all, lovely site, would definitely go back again.
The children's play area is a bit small with only 1 slide and 2 swings, and it is safe for then to ride their bikes around.

I have just returned from a one a night visit to this site. Having read other reviews wasn't certain what to expect. Anyway, it was my first time camping and on my own which I was a bit nervous about. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were warm and welcoming and did everything they could to make me feel comfortable there.
First impression was what a beautiful and well maintained area it was. The area is lovely, peaceful and relaxing. Staff were pleasant and were happy to talk with you without imposing themselves on you. They supplied me with a map for walks on the surrounding area which was helpful and happy to make suggestions for what I wanted from my break. There is a small shop that didn't have very much but there is a nisa store about five minute drive or three quarters of an hour on foot. There is a Chinese restaurant about fifteen minute walk away. There are riding stables down the road and am sure children will love petting them as I did. There is a childs play area there which the children enjoyed but felt there wasn't enough things to play on especially if they got busy. Then again the staff are happy to let the children play amongst the trees and hang whatever on them.
The toilets were clean and tidy and need decorating which they are in the middle of at the moment. One thing I think would be an idea is to have a place where you can wash in private. I don't like showers so that is something I feel could be put in place. They are perfectly okay and close one hour each day for proper cleaning. The bin area was clean was spotless. All in all I would go back maybe with my dog next time. They don't have any real rules really just that you respect the staff, site and the other people who on holiday also. I got what I wanted from my break which was walks, photography and relaxation. All of which I got.

I have just returned from this caravan site where myself, my brother and his family and some other friends all in caravans. It was our first visit to both the site and as caravan and camping club members.
The site, is lovely, large and rural, but not too far from the town of Brentwood if you want to pop into the main shops and also near the Kelvedone secret bunkers and old macdonalds farm! All great if you have children with you. It is a child friendly site other than they don't allow the children to play ball or any game involving throwing something ie Frisbees. We found that annoying at first having a little girl with us but after talking it over with one of the wardens we understood why and it was not a real issue.
The toilet blocks are ok but for a site that is not cheap to stay on, I would have expected them to be in better conidtion. They are in need of some tlc but having said that, the showers are always hot and although only 4 in total for such a large site, we never had to queue for long. They are clean but just a little dated to say the least.
The shop on site is just a sweetie shop; We would like to have seen some basics available such as tea, coffee etc. I know it ws not too far to a local store but if you don't want to get back in your car when there, you would have to if you run out of the basics.
There are mixed reviews about the wardens on site. They do patrol the site like prison wardens lol but, this does mean that they are ensuring you are having a safe and peaceful stay. Yes, they did tell us to go to bed at 11am as we were talking and laughing too loud as large groups do but as miffed as we were at the time, we did understand that the camping experience is different for different people. For us it was sitting under the stars with good friends and family, having a drink, not drunken drinking, and just talking and sharing time with each other. For others, it is going to bed early and we need to respect that so everyone has a good time. The wardens ensure that the club and site rules are adhered to for the benefit for all. Picky they are but for the good of all.
Overall, a nice site, a bit pricey for the facilities there but we would go again. If they let us!

Have just returned from a couple of days at the site it is a lovely site,
we have used it quite a few times over the last few years and we are made to feel so welcome by the current managers who will go out of there way to help if you have any problems, they have worked hard to keep the site up to a good standard.
There are local shops only a few minutes drive away where you can get most things you will need. Lovely quite site hidden away but easy to find

In many respects this is a very good site - friendly welcome, large open neatly mown camping area, very convenient for trips into London. During the last year a lot of work has been done to improve the appearance of the toilet blocks but I think they need something more fundamental to bring them up to modern standards. The underlying fabric of the buildings does not allow for easy cleaning, despite I am sure the best efforts of the wardens, so the showers in particular can feel a bit grubby. I say this in the light of comparisons with more than 20 sites we have stayed at this year in the UK and on the Continent. However, as this is the only C&CC site we have used I do not know how it compares with other C&CC places. Kelvedon Hatch is a large and busy site so I feel it is a shame that the C&CC have not yet been able to invest in facilities to meet present day expected standards.
