Campsite situated in a brilliant area right next to the sea and, with good weather, would have been brilliant for the children.
Nicely mown grass and flat but when the rain comes, the ground becomes waterlogged.
Toilets and showers could really do with a revamp - one block for the entire site and very run down - shower cubicles have no area to keep clothes dry or dress and no mop or bucket to give the floor a wipe when finished.
No extra charges for electric and showers though.
Sadly, would not return to this site unless changes are made.

Brilliant campsite, basic facilities, but that is just what we want. Clean toilets, plenty of hot water and friendly staff, excellent for children and dogs. No noise at night, gangs of teenagers not allowed and noise stopped at 10 pm.
Ground a bit uneven, but it is classed as a nature reserve and cannot change, no electric pitches.
Warning about other camp site, there are two at Black Rock, the one on the left is very quiet, as above, the one on the right has a Pub and shops and is much noisier.
Plenty of facilities in nearby Porthmadog (2miles), such as supermarkets, cafe, restaurants and one of the best beaches in Britain on the doorstep.

Our unit is a folding camper.
This is a well-located site backing right on to black rock sands beach (you just walk through the dunes). It is set in lovely surroundings (hills around, you get plenty of fresh sea air and I like the unspoilt natural feel of the field ie it isn't landscaped or anything.
However the pitch anywhere approach means that even though you book for a certain size with a hook up, you have to drive around and try to see where you might squeeze in as the pitches aren't marked out routinely - except some were marked for a large group that booked in the last weekend of our stay which I felt was unfair. They were put right next to us too.
Facilities are basic - you have a walk for your water and drainage etc. However there are plenty of showers and you can always be guaranteed a HOT shower which is nice. They are cleaned regularly but you are at the mercy, as ever, of campers who aren't very considerate in their keeping things clean for others.
The main gripe I have is noise and this is why I have given a low overall score. This was our second visit as we went the year before and had noise, mainly at the weekend but decided to give it a second chance as we liked the location so much. We regret giving it another go and will not be returning until it changes hands and the site takes on a different ethos. This is a noisy site! It attracts groups of young people especially at the weekend who want to play loud music from their cars or stereo equipment and who are loud into the night (eg 2. 30-3am). There is a lot of alcohol-fuelled revellery. You can't escape them either - the layout of the field is such that campers are in the middle with tourers / folding campers etc on hook ups are in the outer area.
However, some of the family groups can be noisy and a lot of the pitches are occupied by seasonal tourers where they know each other and are rowdy until late. I've nothing against folk enjoying themselves, but when you have a toddler that wakes at 8am every morning come what may, not getting to bed until 3am for a few nights just takes it out of you and spoils everything (and yes I know I'm lucky he doesn't wake at 6am!).
I also find loud music booming from cars at any time of day unacceptable. I don't want to hear other people's music! But when it goes on after midnight and the wardens do not enforce the rules despite repeated complaints from us, I find this totally unacceptable.
They do have a no noise after 11 policy but it is totally ignored and clearly this potential gem of a site now has a reputation as a party site.
Also regarding the beach, the litter is left by these revellers - cans, barbeque equipment and spills over the bins (I know this is a council issue not the site's fault).
The park on the beach approach also encourages boy racers to be tearing around the beach and this is potentially dangerous for you and your children. Again, not the site's fault, but just to give you the picture that this potentially wonderful location is now ruined by yobs who camp there and who ruin a good beach!
So if you are looking for a party site - you've found it. If that's not your thing, do not risk it unless you are tolerant of 24/7 noise, and folk who don't care about anyone else.
In summary, a potentially lovely site, ruined by inconsiderate people, suitable only really as a party lovers' site

Have just got back from 2 nights here.
Good stuff; excellent location and really close to the long, sandy beach and great views of mountains (weather permitting), wild areas and lots of bunnies - haven for wildlife, excellent site for dogs, close to cafe but not on site (bit dear, but not too bad), recycling facilities
Bad stuff; toilets grubby, showers dirty and I wouldn't use them, couldn't attach hose to water taps to fill up our tank as push operated! Litter and broken glass on site, in spite of neatly cut grass.
Although the owner/manager was very helpful, more thorough cleaning of facilities would have made a world of difference.

Just spent a great weekend at Black Rock Sands. Its a great spot adjacent to sand dunes which separate the site from a wide stetch of sandy beach and rolling waves. The camping area is nicely spaced out in an open style which happily has not been messed around with by the owners. Thats not to say the site isn't well kept because it is, it just isnt prettyfied or tarted up with unnecessary flower beds and landscaping. Its a natural looking area.
The toilets themselves were clean throughout our stay but the shower cubicles had nowhere to place clothes and the water was just too hot in the ladies. The block itself was an old style and was in need of some sprucing up - cracked floor tiling, some taps didn't work properly and greying interior walls.
Overall this is a lovely little (or medium sized!) site. With a few quid spent on upgrading the key facilities it could be a treat.

We visited Black rock camping park for the first time for five days before the kids went back to school. The site was fine during the week but the weekend was hell!
There was loud music on Saturday evening coming from the nearby bar and during the night there were loud drunken youths partying with deafeningly loud music until 5am Sunday morning, Items were stolen from other campers by the youths including beer, chairs, tables and clothing.
The staff were obtainable so could not stop them. I made a complaint the following afternoon when it all started up again saying that unless they were removed from the site I would not be going there again. Finally they did leave but I don't know if it was simply the time for them to go home or if they were told to leave.
If you want a peaceful family camp-site - do not visit the Black Rock site.

My family and I have just spent a week at the site, the location is great for children (and adults) right next to the beach. You can walk through to the beach within 5 minutes or less depending on where you pitch, if you want to load the car up and take it on the beach the local council guys will charge you £4.
Site is also great for dog walks either around the outside of the site or on the beach, night time sitting on the beach is nice watching the sun go down over cricceth castle.
We felt we left around about the right time just before the bank holiday, the field started to get busy and so did the noise levels.
The toilets could do with a revamp but I felt sorry for the owners as some people who had no respect left some areas in a right state after using them (to messy to mention). We will be going back next year and hoping we have great weather again.

Great site, has little beach shop, cafe, pub with tv, had no small kids with us but little park seemed to be enjoyed a lot. Loos and showers basic but always clean and lots of loo roll (tip take a carrier bag to showers to keep clothes dry some doors have no hooks)
As we have Jet skis its great as its 2 mins to the massive lovely beach,, rock pools and caves for the kids(and big kids)to explore at low tide.
Spar and chippy up the lane 10 -15 mins walk (be careful of traffic which does seem to zoom down the lane)Plenty of little 'bays' to camp in so lots of privacy if you want it. Had some noise issues one night but quickly dealt with and we have camped there about 20 times now so one night wasn't bad. Quite a windy place but quite sheltered.

This was the 3rd time we have used this site and once again it has proved a great value little site in a lovely spot so close to the beach and with lovely views to the hills behind too.
The owners are relaxed and happy to let us arrange our group as we wished with the boundaries if the pitch we had booked, there are lots of nice little nooks to tuck your tent into, either under the cliffs or among the low shrubs, and there seems to be plenty of EHU and non EHU pitches.
The washblocks are rather dated and the showers almost dangerously hot / cold, so not great trying to wash our toddler, but they do have key-coded locks so feel secure and they are kept pretty clean.
It has been a little noisy on this particular visit but not noticed a problem on previous stays, on the whole the great location and relaxed vibe will have us returning again.

Although this site advertises itself as a family park, I would never recommend a family camping holiday here. The noise levels were ridiculous, which were not made any better by the 'security man', using foul language as he hurled abuse at a group of wee girls.
The staff who were so friendly on our arrival and could not have been more helpful, were unfortunately unable to string a sentence together by late evening, when we went to complain about the noise levels.
We have been to this site before and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, however I hate to say the beautiful location is spoilt by the amount of groups of young people who are allowed on this site. So if a quiet weekend away is your thing, then this is not the site for you.
We are not grumpy old campers, we are just campers that enjoy a good nights sleep. Sadly this is another site we will be crossing from our list of once, beautiful sites.
