Second review on this site (first in 2005). We attended the site during the 14/15/16 July 2006. The weather was SCORCHIO ! At 0700 in the morning it was too hot to be in the tent. Temps of 30C plus were recorded. Fantastic. OK that's the weather outta the way what about the site. Well little has changed since last year. We like the location (right next to the beach) The loo and shower blocks were re-stocked and cleaned in the early hours each night. However a big minus was at about 0300 wifey wanted to use the loo. I went with her (just to be safe). Guess what, no lights! I thought they would activate by a movement sensor but no, nothing, darkness. Not safe in my opinion as anyone could lurk about. During the early hours of Saturday I was woken by the sounds of some real Anglo Saxon swearing/threats being shouted across the site. The following day the police arrived in three cars and a dog van to try and trace some offenders. It seemed that another camper and the security guy off the site had been attacked by some yobs. Not good. Unlike last year there were quite a few jet ski's and mini moto's on the site. The jet ski's were noisy and smelly when the owners tried them out before taking them onto the beach. The Mini motor bikes were run on the beach later on in the evening. No problem for us but could be noisy if you have small kids trying to sleep That apart I still like the site. The showers/loos were clean when I used them however they did get messy during the day. Hot water is very hot but free (no coins req) One pain was the lack of places to hang clothing etc whilst in the showers, just one small hook was on the back of each cubicle door. Pitch where you like, however some places are very lumpy and the ground requires the use of a few rock pegs. Will we go again next year? Very likely to be a yes

First visit and it was fab. Didn't realise how close to the beach it was. Unfortunately on Sunday the weather was not so good and most of the toilets were blocked, but the attendant was doing her best to solve the problem. Did not go to the club or cafe so can't comment. Site is clean and priced very good for it's location, as it is only a hop skip and jump away from beach. Would recommend you try this site. I'm usually very picky and I have paid £15 per night for my tent plus extra (ie kids/dogs) but I have now tried this cheaper site and found it just as good. I paid £8 per tent plus £2.50 per adult and our 5 children were free you don't get much free nowadays. Play area was located a little out of the way but it was no trouble for me to walk up with my children and sit down to read while they had fun on the park. The site has hook up's available but as I have a tent I do not book with electric as I do not need it. We all understand about personal space and there was plenty of it we were not crammed in like sardines. All in all very pleased with the site I'm going again next weekend.

Great setting right next to the beach with direct access. We stayed Friday until Sunday and found it very busy. We were packed quite close to other campers and couldn't seem to get any peace. Our three-year-old daughter had problems getting to sleep because just as she would be settling, some child would scream, or bounce a football right next to the van, or some bloke would yell at his children.
The toilets and showers were not the cleanest and although there were at least 5 showers (maybe 6) in the ladies block I still had to queue for over 15 minutes. On Sunday we were late leaving and the owners didn't rush us off site. Then we got to see that the site could be really nice as once most people had gone and it had quietened down it was really pleasant. I would recommend a visit mid-week.
One other thing to note is that the site was quite muddy in places even though the weather had been warm and sunny for some time so I guess it must get quite sticky in bad weather.

To be fair I did visit this site during a very wet bank holiday, however the site did look like a Paddy field. The site is just not worth what I paid. £28 per night for a badly maintained field. Very poor toilet blocks. Water is however very hot ( too hot in fact so children beware) no where at all to put dry clothes so everything gets soaked. Water taps falling over, electric points loose, no proper waste water emptying facilities for waste master use. Tents and vans packed in like sardines. Dogs left all day tied up outside tents. However the site is in a spectacular setting and has direct access to the beach, so I still enjoyed it. I would imagine that a very hot summer stay on this site would prove enjoyable if only for the location. This is a £10 a night site charging £28 a night. There are other sites very close mostly cheaper I would check them out as an alternative. However if you want a "on beach " site and £28 is OK , this is the place for you.

August 2005 Visited the site with friends in May and found it exactly what we needed. We had small children in our party and they loved the play area and the fact that the beach is 'just there'. Nice not to have shops on the site - big shopping area in Port.
Shower / Toilet block was ok - showers had plenty of hot water but they could do with a re-design as its very hard to get washed and dressed with small children without getting everything wet. Take a bath mat with you - as its easier to get dry.
Went back in August smaller group this time and the weather was fantastic - (Not enough space to play games with the children tho) - didn't need to move off site - Met up with a couple who have been camping at Black Rock for about 11 years - fantastic beach fire.
Washing up facilities excellent - Very hot water and plenty of it!
Laundrette - well the least said the better - 1 machine £3.00 and 1 dryer 50p 10 mins - full camp site and lots of children makes this much sort after. However very good laundrette in Port (which is more cost effective)
All in all a very enjoyable time - Happy Children we will be going back next year!

May 2005 last time we camped here was 5 years ago same time of year and we found it to be a nice site, clean reasonably priced. This time however we were packed in like sardines. Loos/showers average, site clean (except after some people had left, but the site warden did come round and pick some rubbish up.) Right on beach but avoid it if you dont like cars on beaches or jet skis (makes it awkward to let children just play). No bar or entertainment (good for us). The play ground is too far from where we camped to let our 5 year old go on his own ( across enterance road) There is a small cafe opposite site but it is pricey. Cost £72 for 2 adults & 1 child & caravan for 4 nights.

September 2004 This site is one that we have used on a yearly basis for the past 10 years.
The facilities are good, nice hot showers. Good toilet facilities plenty of sinks and showers all well maintained.
Price average for area, welcome very warm and friendly. Wendy and Alan (who run the site) go out of their way to be helpful.
Good location next to the beach. This site has held a David Bellamy gold award for the past 6 years and is a great place for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

August 2004 Came here as a last resort as our first and second choices were full, and were pleasantly surprised.
It is literally a hop over the dunes to the beach which has to be its best feature. During the day (especially at the weekend) the beach is full of people with their boats and has a lively but relaxed atmosphere.
The campsite itself is basic, but quite adequete for your needs. Toilets got busy and I think the owners had their work cut out to keep them clean, but it was a completely full site, so that is to be expected. There are also washing up facilities and showers.
There is a shop and chippy type complex a short walk into the village, and Porthmadog is only 5 mins drive away.
£12 a night does sound expensive at first, but that is for everything and there are no add ons such as extra person, dog, etc.
There are also no formal pitches, just where you like which I feel is the object of a campsite, and people generally know about personal space plus the owners put the FULL sign up before the tents got too close!
It is great for just a quick weekend away, you may want more onsite for a longer stay, but it did make for a wonderful weekend.

August 2004 This site was easy to find and its in a great location. I agree with the other comments left, however I found the loos and showers very disappointing. I have stayed in cheaper campsites (4 star) which have fabulous loos and showers. I think for £15 a night they could invest in a cleaner.
I did mention the state of the toilets when I left but got the response "I clean them twice a day and again at midnight. Its not me who makes them dirty!" Which is fair enough, but I dont make them dirty either!
I would much rather had use the loos in Tescos, and had they had showers would have used those too!!

August 2004 Arrived sat 9am xlnt weather until Tuesday when the wind picked up, lots of tents down and people going home early, bit sad. Some people helped to get others sorted we had three days of wet but it didn't spoil the holiday. The site was its usual quiet unspoilt area with hardly any jellyfish being washed up The site owners were only too happy to help with any advice or probs (the camera battery went flat, a little donation to the paws box and we were back on track ) Would recommend this site to all but beware of the poster in the office, you may end up with an abandonded pup/dog, I nearly did. Shower block clean and warm and open all night, well the mens anyway. Lots of wasps but half a dozen citronella candles and a can of raid did the trick to the persistant ones. Going back next year for a few days but expanding field of travel
