Visited at May half term and had a wonderful time – it’s just perfect for families - the children don't want to leave the beach! We all gave it the thumbs up' and decided we would stay here again - Think it was £10 per adult per night and the kids were free…
The site is smack bang next to the beach and if you have the weather, its just perfect!
We went to reception on arrival and was provided with a tag for our tent and the security codes for the toilets / shower blocks (which are large and clean) I guess this stops people from the beach using the toilets. Good idea!
The pitches are random really – I guess you can pitch where you want or where you find space (but if you want EHU, you have to pitch round the perimeter of the site but this was mostly taken up by small caravans and motor homes - but saying that the site had a good mix of tents and caravans).
The site is enclosed by large 'black Rock' cliffs on one side and gorgeous views of the Welsh Mountains and scenery on the other - the other side is the beach but it is protected from the wind by the sand dunes which act as a natural windbreak from the sea wind.
You get to the beach / sea via a small, short passageway. The beach is golden and the sea is lovely. Whilst on the beach, if the tide is out, you can walk around the caves and explore inside - the kids went crabbing' and had fun exploring the caves.
The site has a washing up room with about 6 sinks, a large chest freezer (free) a laundry room with washer and dryer, a small cafe/ pub, a small shop selling pop, milk, buckets and spades, dinghy, fishing nets etc. Really enjoyed our stay other than it was a little noisy towards the weekend but all quiet by 11pm overall….
It does sound like a commercial site. But it isn’t – just got a lovely sense of ‘back to basics’ but with everything you need in a few mins walk……. If you have kids - this is a wonderful camp site.

We arrived around 16:00hrs, the warden had popped out, but a friendly gentleman who was tending the plants advised us of the tariff, told us to pitch up where ever we chose but if we wanted EHU the pitches ran along the perimeter of the site.
The majority of pitches are level and as it was mid week there were plenty of marked out slots available. When the Warden, Wendy returned, she gave us a very friendly welcome, the security codes for the ablution block and said it was fine to pay on a day to day basis as we weren't sure how long we would be staying.
By Friday afternoon the site was very nearly full with a good cross section of singles, couples and families. The noise levels at this stage were healthy to say the least but not offensive and by 23:00hrs everyone adhered to the no noise policy.
Ablutions - Toilets and showers entered via security coded doors and were very clean during our stay with electric sockets provided for hairdryers etc. The showers had hot and cold taps which is a blast from the past.Put the cold tap on first as the hot water is scalding! We didn't try it but there is an outside shower for wet-suit showering. The toilets are closed between 12:00hrs and 14:00hrs for cleaning but green loos available. There is a good laundry facility and the pot wash sinks were in a separate room which also housed a working chest freezer which is free to use, but not for fish or fishing bait.
The Shenanigan's Bar/Cafe/Beach shop located just outside the site entrance was only open during the weekend.
There is a Spar and very good Chippy a couple of minutes away by car, with the town of Porthmadog about 3 miles away. Also nearby, other activities include pony and llama trekking and a golf course which accepts day members.
Borth Y Gest is a very scenic and beautiful village about 2 miles away that has some very stunning walks along the coastal path and has access to some small but lovely coves.
The site is yards away from the beautiful Black Rock beach with it's golden sands, crystal clear water and deep caves set within the rock. The beach is accessible from the site via a very short path through the dunes, or by road, You are able to drive your car the length of the beach and also park. There is a charge for this, but the kiosk was shut during our visits! There are designated areas to launch your powered water craft.
We were a bit sceptical about visiting this site having read some of the reviews here. The site has a bit of a relaxed atmosphere and what you see is what you get.Flat land as close to the beach as you can get. We had a great time and will certainly be revisiting.

The reception was friendly, but the site itself was a desolate place. Toilet/Shower facilities quite basic. A number of locks were missing from the loos and despite the cleaner just having finished the toilet block was not very clean.
There was a very shabby shop/pub offering a poor selection of items that campers might actually want to buy.
Location was near to a very flat, long, unexciting beach, with little areas for exploration. It was very windy, which we cannot blame the site for, but apparently it is notoriously windy around there.

This for me is one of the best sites I've stayed at and most fun for my 2 children aged 4 and 6 mainly due to the location being right on the beach.
We was welcomed by the lady who took us to our plot and said we can settle up the balance of our stay as soon as we have set up and got settled (very laid back approach and friendly). While we set up the kids played on the park which was slightly small but the kids didn't realize and enjoyed playing with the other kids ( so it does the job it was designed for)
The weather was fantastic so we went to the beach less than 2 min walk from the caravan which is a real nice family beach.
There is a choice of 3 large stores in the centre 10 min drive and lots of local stores all very nice. There is also a harbour, trains station, pitch and putt and crazy golf.
The highlight of the holiday was taking the boys crab fishing from the harbour you can pull crabs ever 2-3 minutes so kids don't get bored.
I have been back home now for a week and the kids keep asking when we can go back.
I will be going back next summer

Lovely site this, but you are paying for it, £33.00 per night for our caravan with electric hook up, and what are you getting for this, yes direct access to the beach, a toilet block with temperamental showers (out of the 5 days no shower was the same!) good washing up room with freezer, small play area for the children and room for them to run around, But all in all pound for pound a bit pricey for what it is. Would I go back, yes but I would probably look at the site along the road which is half the price for the same services, albeit you will have to walk 100y to the beach!

This was our first camping trip and I wasn't too sure what to expect to be honest ! We travelled with a 6 year old, 3 year old and 9 month old.
The site was lovely very well kept no rubbish about. A play area for the kids, small but perfectly formed. Right on the beach (which is dog friendly). A room to do your pots with a huge chest freezer to re ice your blocks. Also a laundry room, with 1 washer and 1 dryer.
The showers were basic but piping hot water . I was worried about feeling grubby going camping. No fear of that with these showers !
I travelled all over New Zealand staying on diff camp sites (albeit in a camper van !). And this was on par to New Zealand. (it must have been the sheep ;-) !
No shop on site but a great supermarket just 2 mins down road next to a chippy (result). And Tesco in Porthmadog just 10 mins down the road.
Great little beach shop across the road which we picked up a few bits for the kids and they have a cafe and a bar attached

This site is fab, you've got to try it. It is right on a massive, beautiful, dog friendly beach. You can walk up the coast for miles.
The site is basic, but it has everything you need. I was worried by a few bad reviews (cos I can be a bit of a princess I'm told), but I would defo go back there again.
The pitches are nice and flat, the loos are very basic, but I've seen and used far worse. They are cleaned every day. There is power point for hairdryers in there.
There is a washing up block and nice cold drinking water taps. Its family friendly, dog friendly and there was no trouble at all.
There is a small cafe and bar right next to the site, and there is a chippy and a spar 5 mins in the car away.
If you pick a nice sunny weekend, you wont be disappointed.

We called in last April to have a look while in the area and fell in love with the location, so booked for September.
We were 2 units and when we arrived we were told we could choose our pitches, which was fantastic and we chose fab pitches beneath the cliff face, well sheltered as we anticipated strong winds being on the coast (and we definitely got them, Scary!)
There is a good amount of ehu pitches and most are well drained and level.
This site is not well looked after at all, there was rubbish (old pegs, poles, bottle tops etc.) which had obviously been there quite some time, so it took us a good 30 minutes to make the ground safe to pitch our tents. There are toilets and showers a plenty, but they are in dire need of updating, and were not cleaned, bins not emptied, during our 11 day stay.
There are a lot of rules, none of which are adhered to, as dogs seem to roam freely and parties are not a problem.
This site has a stunning location, and the access to the beach is fantastic for the kids (as is the play area), so if you are looking for, or don't mind a 'free to do as you like site', with a spectacular location and ok facilities, this is the site for you.

Me and two friends stayed here for two nights fri - sun 5th Sept - 7th Sept.
We arrived on the Friday it having rained heavily for our 2.5 hr journey there. We booked into the campsite, the lady in reception was very friendly and welcoming and told us about the campsite and the facilities.
We pitched our tent on an even piece of ground, there was a lot of space for pitching tents, quite sheltered too with the dunes and raised ground and trees towards the centre of the campsite. The campsite was well drained although in a few places large puddles had formed - but again it was very heavy rain!
The toilet and shower block was clean in the womens - and apparently clean in the mens also (According to the two male friends I was with). They were well kept, and the dishwashing and laundry rooms came in handy too, which were also clean and well looked after.
The campsite has a playground, which looks well kept and fairly new.
The campsite is in a great location - we had a campfire on the beach the first evening as the campsite is basically on the beach! So a fantastic location if you get good weather! Porthmadog is 3 miles away but there is a very handy spar and fish and chip shop a 3 minute drive from the campsite! There is also a cafe and beach shop opposite the campsite entrance. It is a very quiet campsite - as the campsite is basically at the end of a road, and therefore safe for children.
Overall I loved this campsite, great location and great facilities. Will definitely be staying here again!

First time at this site but really enjoyed it. The weather wasn't brilliant, but good enough - it didn't stop us doing anything. The big plus about the site is its location. I agree that you perhaps pay a little too much for this privilege as the rest of the amenities are not brilliant. Whereas I had no problems with the showers loos etc we have two girls who were 3 and 4 and it is difficult to shower these as there is no family room and the shower cubicles are just big enough to shower in. We often go to Best of British sites which tend to have better facilities in this area. Also the playground is not suitable for littl'uns. (we went to a local park which was good. There are two well equipped playgrounds, one behind the market and a quieter one just outside of town). However the site owners are great and accomodated our requirements (we are a large family and camp with friends). We found the site lively though not rowdy, as I say we have two littl'uns who were not disturbed, and 7 yr old and 9 yr old boys plus teenagers and they all enjoyed it.
Port mado has a range of shops from specialised local to a Tesco so you will find whatever you want, plus a market. Also there is the kind of car boot at the football ground that you only get in Wales - literally anything can be on sale. (Bye the bye once in Anglesey there was a caravan for sale £500!)
The railway is fascinating (their pub is good!)and for a bit of magic visit Portmerion, and the Gelert shop is worth a visit.
We have booked again for August 2008 and the kids can't wait!
