A lovely site for a short or longer break (We spent 5 nights here). We were welcomed by name (as the wardens had the presence of mind to match our car registration with our booking as we drove up) and this made an excellent start to the visit.
The pitches vary in size quite a bit and unfortunately the serviced pitches have the best views. There are a lot of these pitches with their own tap and drain so it does somewhat restrict your choice of pitch if you've booked just a standard pitch.
There is no playground for children which does mean keeping a careful look out for children on scooters and bikes who tend to race round the roads. There is a dog walk but in wet weather or even damp weather it is quite difficult for 'humans' to negotiate being on a very steep slope. We did, however find a piece of flat grass right at the very end of the road system below the second tier of caravans which we used instead!
This site is an excellent base for exploring Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and locally there are some good pubs serving food.

First of all can I ask people reading reviews from earlier than 2008 please ignore the comments, this used to be a private site but is now a cc site, so all the facilities etc are all up to the immaculate standards of cc expectations. With brand new toilet block which has plenty of hot water and are immaculate as usual, with 6 spacious showers in each sex. It has even got the added bonus of toilets up in the information centre, so when cleaning you can use them now that's a bonus
We have just come back from a quick 2 night break here as we only live 10 miles away it was out 1st caravan club experience and have to say what a fantastic time we had
The site was immaculate the wardens very friendly and helpful and the man was particularly knowledgeable which is great when you first arrive. Love the site lay out, we opted for a grass pitch as weather was ok and they seemed really spacious, not like the hard standing which looked a bit regimented
The shop was a bit sparse but I guess had a few essentials inc a tv hook up aerial cable as the tv signal is rubbish, they cost £15 but it's 15 mtrs long and they are very hard to find that length which is the same length as most ehu cables, so you know it will always reach and when we connected it it was picture perfect all freeview channels.
There is some nice walks locally although we didn't do any as was just a lazy 2 days, but I believe they are not for the faint hearted
All in all I thought this was a fantastic site, 5 star service from a 5 star site. I will defo be back. in fact we are booked for later in the year

Just had a weekend here and couldn't ask for anything better. Got there and warden met us and was so helpful found the pitch we liked and set up.
Site was great, very well kept and looked after. Shower block was the best I've been to, very warm and very very clean all the time.
Was able to stay on the site til late on sunday which was great
Well done to the wardens and thanks for a great stay.

We joined the Caravan Club as we had never been caravanning before, The Firs was the first site that we have ever been too, so we don't have anything to compare with, instead everyone else has to live up to this.
We felt that it was a great stay, all facilities were excellent and the service provided by the Warden was great.
The reason we stayed was to visit my daughter who lives close by so we did not look around too much.
We would heartily recommend this site to anyone.

Went with friends but couldn't get pitches all together as the site was very full.
We got a lovely pitch near to the toilet and shower block which was fully serviced and backed onto the woods. Very glad we had this pitch as friends were over the other side of the site and their pitch backed onto the road which was pretty busy and noisy.
Lovely site, showers kept very clean and friendly wardens. Lovely walk to the working windmill stopping at local pubs on the way! Had a takeaway Chinese which was delivered free to the site, cant beat that for service!

To find site:- From south on A6 as you exit Belper watch out for right turn into Broadholme Lane which is just past the big cemetery and signed for Nether Heage. Continue along Broadholme Lane ( narrow in places so proceed with care) until you reach the T junction with Crich Lane. Turn left and the site is on the left in about 500 yards. If you approach from the north on the A6 the left turn into Broadholme Lane is very difficult and it is advised that you continue into Belper turn at the roundabout outside of Morrisons and then as above.
The Firs is a recent addition to the Caravan Club network having previously been a commercial site. It opened as a Club site in August 2008. The site is situated a couple of miles outside the town of Belper in pleasant countryside. The wardens work hard to create a delightful floral entrance to the site. There are in the region of 80 pitches plus a small tent area. I felt that some of the pitches were not as generous as we usually expect from CC sites so if you have the choice select with care, particularly if you want to put up an awning. There are two main pitching areas, the main one immediately behind reception containing the excellent toilet block. The majority of pitches in this area are on hardstanding, although there are a few grass pitches. In a second section there are more pitches but all on grass. The motorhome service point is also in this section. This site is unusual in having both grass and hardstanding serviced pitches with water and waste connections for which there is a small extra nightly charge. Digital TV connections are also available on the electrical bollards. The old toilet block has been converted to a large information area and a drying room. Two toilets have been retained for use when the main block is being cleaned. You can order newspapers from reception and they also sell other essentials.
There is an amazing amount to do within a 5/10 miles radius of this campsite. The Denby Pottery Centre, Midland Railway Centre and the wonderful Crich Tramway Village are all close to the site as are several National Trust properties. If you are prepared to travel a little further the whole of the Peak District awaits. There is a pub/restaurant within walking distance of the site (about three quarters of a mile) and of course several eateries in Belper. The town of Belper has a good range of shopping opportunities including several supermarkets.

Nice clean site, level pitches, some hardstandings some grass and some all service.
The facilities are excellent, new last year, all as you would expect from a club site.
Even though the site was full it had a peaceful air about it.
Each pitch has tv booster socket.
There is no play area and though we did see one or two children there was no where for them to play and nothing for them to do.
There is a dog walk we found this a must because the road outside the site has no footpath it is very busy and the vehicles are very fast.
The warden is friendly once you get used the dry sense of humour, we were allowed to stay on a grass pitch for a while longer on the Sunday.
The Spanker inn (a few minutes by car) is a nice pub, serves good food and has a carvery on a Sunday.
Belper, a short drive away, is a nice small town with shops lots of eating places and a couple of supermarkets. There are a couple of circular walks you can do from there.

The Firs is now a Caravan Club site, and the usual CC high standards of facilities apply. The amenities block is new and excellent in every respect. There is also a separate building with a drying room, information room and toilets for use when the main block is being cleaned. There is a fair number of full service pitches, both grass and HS. Most pitches are level, or very nearly level and good size. The ambience was very quiet and respectable (certainly absolutely no trouble from rowdy tenters as reported prior to CC takeover). There is no children's play area or playing field so the site may be a little unappealing for families with very active youngsters. TV reception was OK on most Freeview channels even without the booster connection available on each pitch EHU bollard. The friendly wardens allowed us to stay a little beyond the 12.00 deadline - but this privilege would obviously very much depend on bookings / availability for the next night. Access is very easy as signposted from the A6 just outside Belper, but avoid taking routes through Heage or Nether Heage whilst towing - narrow, steep, bad roadside parking.
A 'must see' in the neighbourhood is the working windmill at Heage (about 2 miles) - the volunteer guides do a pretty professional job in explaining the history and technicalities of the mill! Quite nearby is Kedleston Hall (NT) where The Duchess (Keira Knightly) was recently filmed - good place to visit for house and grounds. The mill and museum in Belper are also worth a look.

Access to site can be slightly problematic if 2 vehicles are waiting in entrance, as entrance and exit barriers are right next to each other.
Wardens nice and friendly and helpful.
Top area mostly hardstanding, bottom area grass pitches, we thought there were too many serviced pitches.
Some pitches have amazing views over the Derwent Valley. Facilities block was excellent. No children's play area on site.
Spent a lovely relaxing long weekend here, would definitely return as only 20 mins from home.
Georges Tradition in Belper well worth a visit too. Would recommend this site.

Visited this site in October for 4 nights. Nice and clean usual caravan club standards but space could be a bit tight if the site is full as they have used all available space. Some nice views from certain pitches. Belper is close by (10 minutes by car) with a good range of shops including morrisons, buses stop outside the site but only run every 2 hours. The site shop does not sell anything at the moment but there is a garage /come mini mart about 5 minutes away. Eating out there is a award winning fish and chip shop in belper called georges next to the total petrol station. Also about 5 minutes from the site a pub called the fishermans, rest again very good homemade food and large portions. The club have new directions on the site details leaflet different to the online directions , having tried both I would stick to the online directions (into belper come back on yourself at morrisons island and turn right at the caravan tourist sign). So a very nice quite site (off peak)that we would use again
