August 2003 Just got back from Firs Farm today. It is a great little site. Mostly caravans, but we were camping. Very level and sheltered, unless you want to be in the 'honeymoon suite', which is a little more exposed, but very private. Also it is is on the edge of the Amber Valley, which has a fantastic view. We were impressed by the management of the site, John and Jim were very helpful, e.g. freezing ice for the cool box without charging, which some sites do. Also impressed by the attention to detail all round the site, and encouragement to keep the place clean and tidy. The staff seemed to spend all day cutting the grass and generally keeping the site spick and span.
Nice pub down the road, thye Spankers Inn, sells Marston's Pedigree, very well kept. Friendly quiz night on Mondays.
We could go on forever about this site. Brilliant, we'll go next year.

August 2003 We have just spent 3 nights at the Firs Farm Caravan site in our tunnel tent. The site is adults only which meant it was nice and quiet during the day.
The site is located between Ambergate and Belper in Derbyshire and is in a very tranquil area.
The site is small, with room for about 50 units and most pitches are big and seem to have electric hook ups.
The toilet facilities are modern and are kept very clean. There were only 2 showers in the Ladies which I initially thought would be a problem but due to the small size of the site, I never had to wait for a shower.
The owner lives in a caravan on site and is very helpful and friendly. He never misses anyone either coming or going so we felt the site was very safe.
There is a good pub within 10 minutes walk of the site which was very nice but only serves food in the evening at weekends. However, there are a whole host of pubs within a 5 minutes drive which serve good food every evening.
My one problem with this site was that a small number of people seem to live on site and a man close to our pitch left for work at 4am every morning in his extremely noisy old landrover. The first night the noise gave me the fright of my life but after that, it just became annoying to be woken at that time.
Despite this, I thought the site was good and would go back again if I was visiting that area, although, I would ask for a pitch away from the noisy landrover!

June 2003 A lovely site. We chose it specifically because of the no children policy, which meant no screaming kids running around. This policy was strictly enforced, as a lady who had come to have tea with a couple a few tents down was unable to do so because she'd brought her children with her.
We were given a choice of three pitches - unfortunately the one we chose was opposite the most boring man in the world who thought he was interesting and loved the sound of his own (loud) voice!! Never mind...he was only there for one night.
The toilets were a minute or two's walk from our pitch, and were very clean, tidy with ample loo, shower, sink provision. Showers and hot washing up water were free with a 20p charge for the hairdryer.
The site was wonderfully quiet, and in an ideal position for touring the are during the day. All pitches are up against hedges which gave good privacy.
We had a little trouble finding it, as it is well sign-posted from Belper, but not from the other direction.
At £8 for a two man tent and car per night we thought it was very reasonably priced as well. We'd definitely go again!

A friendly, peaceful, well maintained adults-only site a few minutes off the A6 in Derbyshire, approx 15 minutes drive from Matlock.
Good facilities including a clean and welcoming shower (free showers) and toilet block. The same building also houses a well equipped undercover pot washing area. A sauna is also available on site.
Most pitches are hard standing for caravans, but there are also sheltered level grassed areas for tents.
A nice feature is a picnic area at one end of the site overlooking the surrounding valley. A pub is located within walking distance, approx 0.5 mile away.
An ideal base for adults seeking a peaceful base to tour the area.
