This is a very nice site. John (the site manager) is very helpful and with the help of some local "muscle" moved our unit to a perfect position overlooking the Amber Valley. We arrived when it was dark and what a marvellous surprise when we woke the following morning. From our window we could see right over the valley, lit by the ochre light of the early morning sun! Beautiful!
The site has many seasonal vans and it does seem a little "tight", but that is the only negative thing we noticed. Toilet/Shower blocks spotless and heated (a good thing with a frosty morning). There is a very handy dog exercise area with a "Dog In/Dog Out" sign on the gate. A really thoughtful touch.
I'd recommend this site to anyone looking for a quiet stay in a picturesque location.

Lovely clean site - mostly touring caravans, although many seem to be there for longer than a few days. The no kids rule makes it wonderfully quiet - no ball games or bikes. But be prepared for loads of dogs!
They provide a small picnic area which has a wonderful view.
Downside is that pitches seemed very close together. Most were surfaced with gravel which is perfect for caravans but no use for a tent. If it gets busy with tents I think they use the bottom field - which is used all year round as a dog exercise area.
For a really special meal, go to Belper and eat in the Thai restaurant in the basement of Strutts Mill.

May 2005 Very welcoming site but a little too cramped for my liking. Toilet and shower block spotless and likewise the washing up facilities. Other reviews keep going on about lovely views? I'm a tad confused as all we could see were more vans? Not many very pretty walks unless you are driving off site to go somewhere else to start your walk, which you don't really want to do if you are in a camper van. Fishermans Rest serve an excellent steak and great beer, and its not much further than The Spankers and much more a proper pub than the Spankers. All in all the site is very peaceful and great for an overnight stay.

May 2005 We went for a night on the bank holiday monday thinking it would be quiet as everyone else will have headed back home. It was. So quiet he told us he had shut the camping field and we had to camp on a small patch of grass right next to the toilet block.
I had a wander around and found the camping field which in fact had another tent on it and views of the valley. So I asked if we could move but were told no.
I suggest you check where you will be allowed to pitch before you go.

October 2004 Lovely well kept site , staff are very friendly they all helped us push our caravan onto the pitch and because the pitch was a bit muddy they even put a big mat in front of the door. All toilets and showers seem very clean and I liked how they gave you a magazine when you arrived on local events and places of interest to visit. They have a strict no children policy , so cuts out any gaming around your van. The site is definately a good site and we hope to go back again

September 2004 second visit to this site, and just as before the people running the site could not have more helpful, they unhitched the caravan and pushed it onto the site, okay the grass was wet, and we did not cut up the grass with out car wheels, but they did that the first time we visited and it was dry then. Only one fault we could find is the small number of showers, only two but even then we had no problems gettin one, and there was plenty of hot water We will return again and again. Bye bye for now Brian.

Aug 2004 A well-maintained site with good views over the Amber Valley and very friendly/helpful staff. Free showers, very clean. Pitch for tents #10 per night. On the whole very peaceful: the adults -only policy does help although the site does become very busy at weekends. Booking advisable at all times.
Good pubs nearby, you can walk to the Spanker which is the closest in about 20 min. Good menu although I hesitate to recommend this one for meals at busy times: you must book and at the time we went they had run out of just about everything on the menu!

July 2004 What a cracking little site! This was our third visit and it didn't disappoint yet again. The warden/manager is a really nice bloke and very helpful. The toilet block although small is always clean and the showers have a water temperature control which is great if the weather is hot (it does happen in this country sometimes) and you need a cool shower. Some of the pitches in the main camping field are a little uneven but it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of this quiet and peaceful site. And the views are magnificent! Well done Firs Farm, we will be back!!

30 July 2004 Well-maintained site with excellent facilities, friendly and helpful staff and some great views of the amber valley.
The policy of having no-one under 18 on the camp means that this is a peaceful site with responsible and well-behaved people but be warned: it gets very busy on weekends with good weather. (booking recommended) We had a group of silly teenagers turn up on our second night, who got drunk and fell out with each other.
But don't let this put you off, I heartily recommend wax ear plugs in these situations, we still had a brilliant weekend.
Pubs and shops within easy driving distance, pubs all serve food. The closest is the Spanker, you can walk there in about 20 mins, very nice, however, I hesitate to recommend this one at busy times as when we went they had run out of just about everything on the menu!

September2003 A wonderful site, we are new to caravaning so we were a bit apprehensive of what to expect, but the people who ran the site helped me set the van up and were most helpful. There is a lovely pub that it is about ten minutes walk away, but they serve real ale and very good food.
