The Caravan Club have just taken over this site.
They have built a new toilet block, new reception office, added new pitches, refurbished existing pitches and generally reformed the whole site all into a first class place to stay.
There are service pitches available. (All new)
There is a view point with superb views over the Amber Valley. Pitches 43 to 47 and 55 to 58 have the views when the trees are trimmed or the leafs have fallen.
The toilet block has larger shower cubicles than normal, modern sanitaryware and tiling and is spotlessly clean.
We visited Crich Tramway museum, where we got 2 tickets for the price of 1 with our caravan club membership. (There are other offers available). Our visit to The Tramway Museum was a superb experience and an interesting local history lesson.
It has be said that The Firs is going to be very popular.
We fear that it will be preferred to other sites in the area such as Clumber Park particularly for weekend caravanners like ourselves. This is a small site therefore you will need to book early.
Hope it won't be like Chatsworth where you have to book months in advance.

Just spent the weekend at the firs and really enjoyed it. The wardens are extremely friendly and helpful. The site is Brand new so everything was spot on. We where on a serviced pitch and there was plenty of room. We will definitely return in the near future. The only gripe we had was there is no visitor car park but the warden let our visitors park on a empty pitch.

What a lovely little site! We've just returned from a 5 night stay here, and I think we will definitely be returning before too long.
It's just been taken over by the CC, and has been refurbished to a top class standard. The toilet block is brand new, and the showers are like individual wet-rooms. There are ample toilets and seperate sink cubicles too. There is also a laundry room in the main utility block. There is a smaller block, which has a couple of toilets, an information room, and a drying room (this came in really handy, as we it rained constantly for our whole stay!).
The pitches are really spacious, and mainly hard standing, but there is a seperate grass field at the bottom of the site. There is a dog walk on site, but it was really overgrown so we never got to use it. But the wardens said it would be opening shortly, and from the bit we did see, it looked great. The views from the site were fantastic, and seemed to change every time we looked.
The only tiny gripe we could find with the site is that it has no play area for the kids.
Belper town centre is a 5 minute drive away, and there is a big Co-op and Morrisons, plus all the usual town centre type shops.
All in all, this is a fantastic site, in a great location, and definitely worth a visit.

A lovely site with panoramic views over the Derwent valley. We stayed for the bank holiday weekend and really enjoyed it. The staff are friendly and the site is really well laid out. The dog walk has yet to be cleared and the picnic area is waiting for some benches and TLC.
The loos and showers are immaculate! The showers are massive, with seperate dry areas so that you can get changed in comfort.
We visited the tram museum which although it seems a bit expensive it was good value as you could take as many tram rides as you wished, it has a lovely picnic area and woodland walk with some great sculptures to amuse the under 10s.
Just a few words of caution: the back left of the site sits beyond a steep curve boundaried with low wooden fences. We saw one child fly round the corner, hit the fence and go over his handle bars. So not so fast! There are a number of steepish drops, particularly by the pitches in the 40s and behind the waste areas by pitch 43. If I had toddlers I would not be happy to let them wander, although it's not really advisable to let toddlers wander is it!
Sadly no recycling on site, but loads at Morrisons in Belper. How come the camping and caravanning club can do it so well.
We saw loads of real ale pubs nearby, and without the kids in tow, we'd have been sampling the ales all day.
Overall though a delightful site and we will be back.

If you are taking a tent ask for the tent / overflow field or you will risk being put on the grass at the side of the entrance road. Heavenly and peaceful weekdays, magnificent views. Small toilet block but well maintained, very friendly warden, lots of info and reading material available. We spoke to an older guy stayed all summer for the peace and tranquility, but he went home every weekend. Be warned at weekends this site changes facilities are stretched once the overflow field opens. It seems to attract groups of young adults intent on having a good time [and why not that's what life is about] The tent was almost wiped out by some young men driving a souped up Corsa who mounted the grass and clipped a bush next to the tent returning from a late night jaunt [they had probably only been out for a nice meal!] - don't let it put you I am sure that was an exception.

We enjoyed a relaxing weekend at this site, appreciating the adults only aspect and the fabulous view from the far field we pitched in. However, we would not have liked to have been put in the main field with the majority of the caravans, as this seemed cramped and uninteresting, with no views at all. The toilet block was adequate, although could do with more than 2 showers per gender. The warden was very sociable and seemed to be everywhere all of the time! The info pack we got on arrival was very informative and led us to the National Tramway Museum at Crich, which gave us a very pleasant day out. No problems with hot water or cleanliness in either the wash block or washing up sinks. A great touch for dog owners was the huge dog walking field with that splendid view over the valley, poop scoop, bags and "Dog in/Dog out" sign all provided! Great site for exploring the Amber Valley if you have dogs rather than kids and reasonably priced too. We'll probably go back.

Just come back from a sunny weekend spent at this site, the no under 18's made it a peaceful site with no kids kicking footballs near your car or tent. The toilet/shower block is kept clean and tidy and I never had to wait for a shower, which was lovely, hot and free! The camping field is sheltered and quiet. We would certainly go back again and the staff were very helpful and friendly without being intrusive and it was a nice touch to receive a little guide made by the site with details on the local area, closest shops etc!

We have just returned from a lovely bank holiday weekend at this site. We were welcomed by the friendly site manager who ensured we knew where everything was on our arrival. We pitched on a slight slope but it wasn't too bad. The showers were hot, free and clean and the manager even put our ice packs to freeze in his own freezer free of charge. The site was very busy with it being bank holiday but it didn't seem too much. It was very peaceful without children too! The only let down was the weather which was cold and rainy and put paid to our low budget tent. We went for a 5 mile walk in Bakewell which was beautiful and visited the heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath. We plan on visiting this site again in the summer with some friends and a more reliable tent. I would highly recommend this site if you just want to relax in pleasant surroundings.

We stayed at Firs Farm over the Easter weekend. Not many tents in the tent field, so it was quite peaceful - particularly because of the no children rule! It was nice to be able to park our car next to the tent. The tent field has good views over the Amber Valley, which was quite superb when it wasn't raining..................... The shower block was quite clean, but only the two showers which only proved a problem on one occasion when I had to wait for 5 whole minutes! 20p for the hairdryer, which was ample to dry my thick hair. Electrical hook-ups were available if you wanted for tents - and if you'd pre-booked.
