Plus points:
The campsite is not divided into pitches, so everyone seems to get plenty of space around their tents.
A fridge-freezer is available for your use.
The owners are quite selective about who they let in.
Toilets/showers seemed to be cleaned regularly.
Great location - it's quiet, and there's virtually no artificial light after dark.
The owner has some friendly pigs, which are brought round to see the children in the evening.
Good dish-washing facilities.
Negative points:
The toilets/showers are very far away from the tent field. A four to five minute walk. Keep this in mind if you are taking kids.
Also, there aren't really very many showers/toilets for the number of people who could be on site at any one time.
The owners didn't keep an eye on the security gate, so when we returned from trips out, we had to go an ring their doorbell and ask to get in.
There aren't many hooks/hangers etc in shower cubicles, so it's difficult to keep your clothes dry.
There is no kids play area, or swings or anything like that - take plenty of activities.
Dish-washing room is very far from tent field.
Overall, this site was fine, but it seemed expensive for what we got.

spent 3 nights in 'car park' motorhome provision not as expected. Scenery and walks made up for disappointment though - and the pigs on their morning and evening stroll was a site to behold.
The site was ideally placed for 'touring' with easy access to Keilder Forest and Reservoir and Scotland.
Toilet block was clean and plenty of hot water and as the site was not overfull no queuing was needed.
Would visit again if could be sure of a better
Pitch as staff we very welcoming and friendly.

We stopped here for one night as it's a good base from which to visit hadrians wall and its forts.
The approach to the site is along a single track road but there are plenty of passing places, the one 'hairy' bit is the narrow wooden bridge on a bend coming up to the entrance which might be tricky with a long van.
The wardens seem friendly and our pitch was easy to find. The toilets and showers were excellent which is reflected in the price, nearly £20 for 2 adults and 1 child.
It was a big, busy and bustling site but by 9pm everyone settled down for a peaceful night.
In all a good site, but a bit big for what we like.

First off, the field for our pitch had obvious signs of recent animal activity ie. Hoof prints and droppings all round, should have been cleaned up before use as a camping area. Toilets and showers are fine if you are in the statics or hook up area, but too far away from tent area plus there are not enough for the size of the site. Not enough stand pipes for water, could only find one. Lighting at night needs improvement. No playground.

What a beautiful site in an outstanding area. The site is well laid out and clean. We were in the caravan area, not the camping field, due to having electric hook up. There are quite a few caravans which are on site all season, though that is not an issue. The toilet block is clean and functional. Plenty of hanging hooks in the ladies, nice really hot water and they are free. The grass is cut regularly. We were only there four days and the grass was cut twice in accessible areas. Plenty of water and disposal points around the site. Recycling is also encouraged. The chemical disposal point is central. There are loads of walks for the dogs in the forest, directly off the site. We walked a portion of the Pennine way and that was spectacular. The weather could have been better, but that's not the sites fault. The midges are awful, again not the sites fault. Don't let that put you off, this site is worth a visit if you like peace, quiet, walking and winding down. The nearest pub is about 8 miles in Otterburn as is the shop.
We are going back in September 2009, we loved it.

Arrived for the late August Bank Holiday. As the site bases its charges on a per person system this works out expensive for families
The camping field, at the bottom end of the site past the statics and caravans, was completely waterlogged and has no electric hook-up facility. A stream runs alongside the field which looked as though it had recently overflowed its banks or was about to.
The shower and toilet block was clean but basic and quite a walk from the camping field.
Shops are about 7 or 8 miles away so make sure you are well prepared.
On the plus side the surrounding area is lovely with plenty of walks accessible from the site.
We moved off after a day.

Visited in May 2009 as our trial run in our new ( and first) caravan. Not really ideal for that purpose in our view as it didn't set a great standard. Fairly basic although clean enough but it all looked a bit tired.
Would perhaps have liked a little more assistance too given our circumstances but at least we could pick whatever pitch we wanted. Unfortunately it had been raining quite a bit before our visit and the available pitches were rather boggy and fairly uneven.
The setting of the park was nice enough but too far to walk to the nearest pub.

We arrived to a warm welcome and were told we could choose our own pitch, as their was only one other van on site. The pitches varied in levels of bogginess and the electric was off although almost repaired. All taps were off and the ladies toilets were closed so we had to use the mens for drinking water and showers. These were at least hot and powerful but not very clean. A dumper truck raced around the grounds in the mud with a workman sharing the toilet facilities. The walks were wet and muddy due to the weather but nevertheless still picturesque. There was only one light at the far end of the pitches, so really black at night if you ran out of water. We were charged for high season, unfortunately the amenities were not geared up for this. It maybe better in the summer when everything is clean and working.

Booked for two nights at the end of January, when arrived after a two hour drive found we were the only ones there and got told to park up on a large tarmac caravan storage area in between the bins and toilets. Asked if there were any alternatives on the actual site (it did look rather nice) I was told can`t let me go near grass for obvious reasons. If there aren't any hard standing pitches it should be stated on their website, or when I booked over phone. Not too chuffed, but I got my £29 back

Booked this site for a weekend in June. On arrival the owner suggested we pay only for 1 night initially as there was a lot of midges around (nice to be forewarned). Pitched the tent in a fairly large flat field away from the statics and tourers with a few other tents there. Nice views from the peaceful tent field of surrounding hillside, forest and horse fields. About half 8 there was plenty of midges about but we had some deet insect repellent so it was OK. I guess that's to be expected in this kind of area at this time of year. We decided to stay the Saturday night as well folowing some good walking on the Pennine Way which ran directly past the campsite. Decent pub 5 mins drive down the road to Otterburn (Redesdale Arms) for a pint after a wet days walking.
Toilet block was a few mins walk from the camping field and was reasonably good and we both got decent showers straight away although the site was fairly quiet. Overall a good site, we'll probably return.
