We've just returned from a long weekend over Easter and can say, as our first experience of camping ever, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and believe you all made that possible!
Check in was easy and quick and the plot exactly what was needed. Luckily we had the weather to set up with and after, a quick scout round the local area saw what can be done.
The path to the beach is a lovely walk, really quite passable, we managed to 'just' get a pushchair down it but was a bit rough for our little girl
By the beach, a great shop, open to 6pm had everything you needed so didn't use the camp shop. A pub, a cafe (that closed at 5pm) and a fish and chip shop which sold nice chips at a price!
Easy access to Padstow (beautiful) and Newquay with loads to do and a Tesco Express open 6am to 11pm.
The beaches and coves were all a treat to discover and the sunsets. Well, breathtaking!
The park made things easy with great facilities, more than we got to use. The kids loved the playground and bird cage with loads of them in. The toilets, showers and family bathrooms were ample, maybe needed more heating though, otherwise loved the music playing in them too.
Games room and TV room kept the kids busy while we put the tent up and down, washing up used everyday with plenty of sinks and drainers, BBQ's left by previous campers to use or as a stand for disposable ones, Freezer for ice packs in your cool box and free. Don't bother bringing a toaster, they have one out to use, together with microwaves.
All in all, fantastic, just got home today and looking to book again later this year.

Beautiful site in a fantastic area. Facilities were top notch and could not ask for more. They thought of absolutely everything for your use. From toaster to microwaves, fridge and freezer.
Reception very helpful and could not do enough for you. Great information hut that has loads of leaflets and books for you to look through.
The pitches themselves were very flat with very good drainage, and site quite sheltered with being in a valley.
Would definitely use this site again if in this area. Fantastic.

The site is beautiful and in a beautiful location. There is lots of room for kids to run around, and they have ducks and guinea pigs for the children to pet. It is a lovely quiet 10/15 minute walk on a woodland path down to the front where it is lovely and quiet. The site has a great information hut full of all sorts of brochures, book borrowing and wildlife watching. However during my stay I did feel there were a few downsides. The van we stayed in was very very old. There was an odd mix of very new and very old static vans. The one we stayed in appeared to be from the 80's and was very worn and old. The fire did not work, and it did get chilly on an evening so we were unable to put it on. We reported this twice to the manager at reception and neither time was it dealt with. Also when we arrived the caravan was actually really dirty. All the cutlery was unclean with old bits of food on it, so we cleaned it all again ourselves. The cupboards and sides were also very dirty. We are not picky people, but I don't want to have to clean a caravan I have paid to stay in and I expect it to be clean. Aside from this we did have a nice stay and the site itself is truly beautiful I would go back again but make sure I stay in one of the new vans.

Management response: Sun Haven Valley sits in a magnificent location in manicured grounds and we see no reason to limit visitors to those with the deepest pockets, so we offer a range of accommodation - from residential quality bungalows OR caravans with private terraces and a bath in the en-suite all the way through to our 1997 'value caravans'. The 1997 vans were sold off in 2011 and have been replaced but were very popular with those holidaymakers who prioritise the park and countryside above the patterns on the wallpaper and the intensity of colours in the upholstery, and these customers have usually taken them in the manner they were offered - as a 'good-value' option.
Does it not seem unreasonable to select the cheapest van on the site (saving £44 from a middle-of-the-range van); be informed as to which van you are staying in and then express surprise afterwards that you didn't get a newer one ? Each and every van is individually pictured & detailed on our website, so there is no need of surprises on arrival. GAS FIRE - I was able to light the gas fire without a problem - as was my teenage daughter - and the only fault the gas plumber could diagnose was 'operator error'.
CLEANING - We pride ourselves on the standard of cleanliness as it produces many repeat bookings. Of course every cleaner can have an off day - and when we are informed on arrival that a vans state of cleanliness needs attention, we will sort the problem out. We encourage feedback as we can identify and train the cleaning staff concerned, but clearly there is nothing we can do (except apologise) if we are only informed a week later. We note that the major complaint was dirty cutlery and not a dirty bedroom, bathroom or lounge. |

We stayed at Sun Haven for a week touring through Cornwall and we weren't disappointed.
Admittedly, there are rules to adhere to but this a benefit in my opinion. The campsite was clean and tidy, large pitches with good facilities and extremely quiet after 22:30. Dogs have to be kept on leads but there is a side gate which leads via a wooded walk to the beach in 15/20 minutes which was lovely and our Westie had a great time.
The shop sold basics and there was a fish and chip van and a creperie once a week whilst we were there. There is a DVD library and a very good information room with books you can borrow.
They even have a fridge you can use and a microwave and a toaster- though we didn't use them.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Mawgan Porth is a small sandy beach with lifeguards, a good pasty shop and a small grocery store, which also does Pizzas and a couple of pubs and farm shops within walking distance. We also visited Newquay and Padstow- advice is to go early as gets very busy.
Excellent surfing beaches all along the coast, most dog friendly. We love the area and will return.

This site is situated within walking distance of Mawgan Porth's beautiful sandy beach, which is wonderful for all of the family and is overseen by lifeguards.
The walk is approx 15 min through woods with a well trodden footpath (just watch your footing - a lot of tree roots!) For those of you with dogs, they are allowed on the beach.
Be careful as the final 1/2 mile up to the site is a single track road with 6 ft high hedgerows so you can't see what's coming and the passing places are tight.
Avoid going between 20 past and 20 to the hour as this is when the bus goes up and down the road, which you would not want to meet head on! Suggest you contact the site for full timetable prior to arrival.
Take note of the directions noted on the site's website on how to reach the site itself when you come from Newquay Airport, they are spot on - otherwise you will find yourself in a spot of bother.
The site itself is well maintained and set within a valley with a number of statics for summer lets. Reception holds food essentials i. E. Eggs, beans etc.
There was no mobile signal due to the location of the site and you may find TV reception limiting / non-existent. We have a TV booster and did not find a problem with receiving channels, but many did.
Wi-fi is available from reception for a nominal fee. There is a phone box on site. One nice touch is that the owners put the week's weather on the information board and update this frequently, so you can plan your days accordingly.
The camping/touring field is situated at the bottom of a steep slope and personally we found it is more geared up for tents than caravans due to space.
If you are used to Club Sites, you may find pitches smaller than you are used to, space is definitely a premium and you will be in close proximity of your neighbours. If you are using a full size awning you will have a maximum of a 2 mtr gap between your awning and the next tent/caravan.
You have to park your car to the front of your pitch, which makes it tight due to the single-width track around the site. It was so tight upon leaving, that we had to wake someone up at 6. 00am to move their car as we could not get through with the car and caravan. During our stay, a car was damaged due to the tightness.
The facilities for the disposal of waste water and toilet emptying are situated up a steep slope and require you to lift them over a metal bar. This was particularly troublesome with the waste water as there was not enough room to move it around to get it at the right angle to empty it easily at all when full. This could be a big problem for those with back problems. Being young and fit, my husband did not find this easy.
Shower facilities on site are satisfactory. There are also separate areas for showering if you are in a wet suit. There are separate veg prep and washing up areas as well as a laundry, private bathrooms for hire as well as microwaves and toasters.
There are also freezer/fridge facilities to utilise, which would be beneficial for those with tents.
There is a good playground and separate toddlers area as well as TV and games rooms.
On site, there are resident ducks and guinea pigs, which roam freely, which all the children enjoyed.
You will be well placed for Padstow, Newquay and all surrounding beaches. You will find all major supermarkets in the neighbouring towns, but parking can be at premium during the peak season.

We stopped on this site and on the whole we enjoyed our weeks holiday
The area is beautiful and Mawgan Porth is a lovely little town with a beautiful beach
The site was nice but we did have one or two problems which did put a damper on the holiday
First of all the road to the site is a single track road with little or no passing places which caused damage to my car. The bus drivers are rude and will not move, I had a caravan and entrance ane exit to the site was a major worry for me, If I had met a bus the other way goodness knows what I would have done.
It is time this road was widened between Mawgan Porth and the site
As I have said, we took a caravan with us and I did think that the site was very tight with very little space between each van and nowhere to park cars.
These spaces need to be made larger and it would make for a more enjoyable stay
It puts me in mind of airline flights cramming in as many seats as possible on each aeroplane
The toilets and showers were very nice and clean but the elsan point was very difficult to get to
Finally, get to the fish and chip van early because he runs out of fish and doesn't tell anybody

We have just spent another lovely week at Sun Haven Valley. It's the second time we have visited and really love it there. The play area has had an overhaul since our last visit two years ago and there was plenty to keep our two 10 yr olds occupied.
The facilities are great - never had to queue for a loo or a shower and the site was pretty full all week. The showers can be a little on the hot side though. Only once did there appear to be no hot water, but this was resolved quite quickly.
The pitches are large, well-spaced and well-maintained.
The 'quiet after 10.30pm' rule was well-enforced and children were not encouraged to be out late, with the play area closing at 9.30pm sharp.
All in all a great site for exploring the local area. Mawgan Porth is a fantastic sandy bay with great surfing and is well-patrolled by life guards between 10am and 6pm. The walk to the beach from the site is very peaceful, down a leafy lane. The coastal routes to Newquay and Padstow are very picturesque.
We will definitely go back to this site - we love it!

The 3rd year we have been to this site, and have already booked to go back next year. Absolutely love it. The 1st week was busy and loud, but it was half term, the no noise after 10. 30 was enforced. Never had to queue for showers and they were kept clean.
Roll on next June, that's all I can say. We looked at other sites in the area, and while they may be nice, we are happy with this site, and our 11 year old has made friends over the years that also return. They have also added more computers for internet access and the park has had a facelift. Love the free roaming ducks and guinea pigs. The setting is amazing. Cant find a negative

Visited this site with wife and 2 kids and another family in Aug 09. We had a great holiday touring round N Cornwall and this site is located well for this.
Plus points:
- Noise really well controlled for little ones to sleep after half ten - Great location - Lovely flat pitches - Well maintained landscaping
Not so good:
- only 5 pot wash sinks- often crowded - showers- 6 showers for circa 100 pitches felt a bit over stretched. There was a problem with the water pressure when we were there (for four or five days out of 10!) which didn't help but be prepared to wait for a wash, even when all the showers are going
A great base; some reservations about capacity for the numbers we saw; great if you have own facilities in 'van
North Cornwall and Atlantic just has some fabulous places to visit

Just got home from our first visit to this site and have to say we loved it so much we have reserved our pitch for next year.
We were in a tent and have to warn everybody that pitch number 2 is on a small slope - it is the only one on the whole site that is though.
The toilets and showers were always clean ( the surfers shower means not too much sand in the main showers) and the shower cubicles were a decent size but the showers worked on a push button system the same as you get in swimming pools and you can't control the temperature which made it difficult for little ones or anyone who doesn't like a hot shower. You can hire a family bathroom at £2 for 30 minutes it doesn't break the bank, each one has a shower, bath, toilet, bidet, hairdryer, heater and a plug socket even in august we could get a slot whenever our 5 year old got too dirty to ignore it any longer.
The facilities are fab an oven, microwaves and toaster that you can use, along with 2 freezers for ice blocks( with a few iceblocks you can borrow if your quick enough) and a fridge. We didn't use the laundry room but it looked well equipped.
They also have bodyboards, windbreaks, beach games etc for free loan by reception. There is a free library, and you can borrow dvds at no cost.
There's no bar or club, all children have to be back at their accommodation by 9.45 and you are asked to be quiet after 10.30 which was exactly what we wanted and meant our 5 year old didn;t want to be out playing too late.
The playground was good and is getting an overhaul starting September which should mean its even better next year. The games room was a bit disappointing. The site has wifi though the signal is bad in some parts of the site- there are also pcs available to use in several locations with 20p slot meters that give you about 5 minutes use - just long enough to check emails and the bank balance.
The Staff were great very friendly and helpful.
The 15 - 20 minute walk to the beach is only that if you walk fast, having a 5 year old in tow and not wanting to rush meant it took us closer to half and hour.It is a pleasant walk through woodland so wasn;t too difficult.
Parking in mawgan porth if you don;t want to walk was only £3 for the full day, the beach is great, very dog friendly, lifeguards from 10 till 6 every day ( at least when we were there in august).
We hired Bodyboards and wet suits from bettys surf shack at the bargain price of £7 for both for 4 hours which was long enough to exhaust me.
All in all a fantastic site in a great location.
