Ditto all the positive points already made in the reviews below. But to add, we arrived at Sunhaven minus our BBQ and 'boogie boards' because we couldn't fit them into the car and were delighted to find that they have a store of 'left-overs' for other campers to make use of during their stay; not to mention windbreaks / cookers / bags of BBQ coals etc!
Another reviewer mentioned that the shop was small. Small it may be, but so is Dr Who's Tardis! It seems to have all the basic necessitities that a camper should need,at very reasonable prices. I took note of some prices for comparison and some were even cheaper than the Co-op! On our arrival we panicked initially because our electric electric hook-up didn't seem to be working; only to find that you can rent them/even buy them in the shop.
Another plus point is that currently on the site they have a large fridge (which was due to be picked up by someone 4 months ago!) but in the meantime they are letting campers have the benefit of using it. This saves such a lot of hassel and makes a big difference if shopping for the family. Also free freezer facility comes in very handy as mentioned in other reviews.
I'm sure that anyone visiting this site will find that all these little 'perks' make a big difference in making a hassel-free relaxing stay.
One point to note - if you will be using the wi-fi on this site, you will need to pay at reception for this - 50p for 1 1/2 hours, £2.00 for 24 hrs or £9 for the week - this is not mentioned on their website. Very reasonable we think, but handy to know in advance so those Facebook addicts can crank up as soon as they pitch-up to tell all their friends what a fantastic time they're having at Sun Haven Valley!
PS Can't sign off without giving the guinea pigs a mention (and the resident mouse!) - my 11 year old girls love them and they certainly made it a holiday to remember for them.

As advertised, this is Mawgan Porth's best kept secret. It has a Visit England 5 star award and from the start of your stay, you can certainly see why.
Showers - free, hairdryers - 20p for about 20 mins, children's toys - free to use, washing up facilities (with hot water) - free, use of freezer for ice packs - free, use of Microwave had a small nominal fee, but no other hidden charges.
We stayed in the 'Open Field' just opposite the reception. Fantastic views across the Cornish hills and down the valley to the sea. Open Field is void of electricity, has one fresh water tap and two porta loos - more than adequate for those that require a quick visit! The main toilet block, washing, shower, children's play area, animal area is just 50 yards away, so it's not even a long walk to get there.
Cost in the Open Field in August was £21.50 per night for the pitch (we have an Outwell Hartford XXL), two adults, two children aged 5 and 3 and a dog, which we found to be more than reasonable. Normal rules apply (silence by 10:30pm etc), but you get the fantastic views - something you don't get on the normal tent pitches slightly down the valley close to the stream.
Excellently maintained site and plenty of staff on hand to provide you with great local information.
Mawgan Porth has a great beach, few shops, a pub etc, so if you're looking for somewhere lively, don't come here. It's ideal for families and couples looking for a nice quiet holiday.
Great location for access to Mawgan Porth, Newquay, Padstow etc. And the beaches (Watergate Bay, Porth, Padstow, Newquay etc).
Any negative points - not sure I can think of any. Already booked for August 2010!

This has been our favourite site in Cornwall for the last ten years with walking access to the beach and set in a lovely valley but owners should have put more effort in to the showers and toilets than things like wifi, the new playground items and a new information shed.
After our first week the showers packed in, leaving a couple of hundred people trying to use them, some stuck in the showers when they stopped on a daily basis. We then had 2 days of very hot showers that cannot be regulated. This spoiled our holiday which is a shame as we have enjoyed many years here.
There is also no provision for walking your dog yet the price for them is extortionate and this year a charge is being made for having any ground sheet in an awning yet the grass under ours was better when we left than when we arrived yet under most of the tents the pitches were ruined

What can I say about this site except- fantastic!
We arrived in our trusty VW campervan myself, my husband, 2 kids and a dog and were greeted with a warm welcome and given a map of the site, a map of the local area and a general info sheet.
Our pitch was generously sized and we had no complaints. The maintenance of the whole site couldn't be faulted. No sooner than had campers left their pitch then the grass was being mown and fertilised. Never before have we seen such attention to detail at a campsite.
The facilities at this site are immaculate. The toilets/showers are cleaned daily and to a very high standard as are the dish washing facilities.
The playground was of a good standard and is getting updated in september.
There is a 10 minute walk to the beach/village centre down a leafy path which we found great. The village itself has an excellent shop with everything you could require, a pub, a cafe, a fish and chip shop, a newsagent and a few surf shops.
The site has a notice board which they display local info about farm shops, events and even a weather update.
I cannot finish without mentioning the local dog- friendly pub (The Merrymoor Inn) which I have to say we visited more than once! The meals they serve are superb and the service is warm and friendly.
All in all this site is a real gem and couldn't be faulted :-)

We picked this site on the basis that it ticked the 5 star award category in the Cornish tourism awards. Would future campers please note that this site is no longer worthy of a 5 star award. The facilities were probably once very good, and the appearance of the site is second to none.
Further to previous posts about the showers, we had cause to complain about the lack of water pressure in our first week (Standing covered in suds with the water literally trickling down the wall is not a 5* standard)
We were told by the receptionist that the proprietors were aware of the situation. Eventually in our second week the plumbing clearly had a paddy and several arrogant and strongly worded notices directed to complainers were displayed around the site advising campers that parts were on order/no service professionals available etc.
There was no apology for the inconvenience etc. Campers were given one hour notice that the hotwater was to be turned off at 10am one morning for the fault to be fixed.
Once repaired there was an improvement but the pressure remained poor - I wasn't expecting a power-shower but prefer not to have to stand against cold tiles to get wet. The push button operation gives you 7 seconds of water at a time.
There is nothing to separate the wet and dry area in the cubicle, so everything gets wet as you shower, the floor especially so leaving you standing in a puddle as you dress.
The toilets are fitted with ill-fitting wooden seats which slide from one side to another, ladies you will make contact with the porcelain.
Facilities are clean but are not kept clean often enough so the floors become littered with paper towels from the over flowing bin (the one hand dryer is useless) and children rarely leave bathrooms 'clean'. There are no mats on the floor to wip dirty feet so the foor remains filthy and slippery.
A broken window in the ladies bathroom is fitted with cardboard and a stained floral sheet.
At no time during our two week stay did the tumble dryer or spin dryer work - the british weather did us proud in those two weeks; it rained 9 out of the 14 days we were there, so drying clothes became impossible.
In peak times you may be packed in like sardines, the pitches are adequate to a point but the narrow road meant our car was clipped twice by passing caravans and once everyone is 'home' the road resembles a terraced estate. There is certainly no where around your tent for younger children to play safely, this area is provided around the static homes which are in the upper field.
The stream beside the pitches on one side of the site does flood following persistent heavy rain. Overnight the water rose from 3 inches to over 2 feet. The site owners have reinforced some parts of the bank but judging by the mass exodus of campers following such an occasion whilst we were there, this is not sufficient. If the pitches were larger campers would not be forced to site tents/caravans so close to the bank and therefore could park vehicles alongside instead of infront. Streamside pitches come with supplement and so the owners can make the most of this all of these pitches are narrow with a trench dug in the ground to define them.
On the plus side, the pitches are flat and level, extra facilities such as free bbq hire (you can make your choice from a selection dumped by the washing facilities) are nice to haves but if you have your own anyway.
A big shame all in all, the previous owners must have got out while the going was good!

We spent 2 weeks at this lovely site. Its a very peaceful site set in what must be the most gorgeous countryside we've ever seen.
Our pitch was huge, and with little extra touches like picnic benches available to use, this is by far the best site we have stopped on. There is a toy box near reception with stuff for the kids to borrow, including body boards and a few wet suits. All they ask is that you return it at the end of the day.
There's also barbecues available to use. All these little touches added to the appeal.
The kids loved the ducks, guinea pigs and the aviary. There's a games room we used once and is fine, as well as a TV room that we didn't use. The kids loved the play area and it was very safe.
The only complaint we had was the showers, the water pressure had a mind of its own, and the 1st time me and my daughter used them, they were freezing. They did get warmer but the pressure was still hit and miss. It wasn't bad enough to put us off the site, and they were extremely clean.
There's a very pretty stream that runs along the camping pitches, we just wish they were electric hook up pitches. It was really nice.
One thing to be wary of is the road to the site, the last half mile is a single vehicle road with passing points. As we turned from a very sharp S bend on a hill, a double Decker bus was coming towards us, luckily the driver (who's the only woman driver to impress my hubby) reversed her bus all the way back, allowing us to get past. We did ring the site to ask about the bus times, but obviously there was a mistake made. Still not enough to put us of though. The site do advice you to ignore your sat-nav for the last bit of the journey, and give you directions to the site that really are the best ones if your towing a van.
The walk to the beach was lovely and if you do want to take your car, parking is 3 pound for the day.
The chippy in Mawgan Porth was lovely but a little pricey. The farm next door to the site was really nice, with lovely homemade Cornish pasties if you order them the day before. Mawgan Porth beach is lovely and also patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards, which made us feel a bit safer.
This really is a lovely site set in a lovely area. We are already looking to book for next year. The whole family fell in love with the site and Cornwall.

What a gem! We really loved it, it was great for the kids and really peaceful - until we arrived ;0) The only thing that we could really comment on is the showers. They are push button and sometimes very hot, especially for children. The water pressure was sometimes a little hit and miss too. But the facilities were always clean and well maintained.
The children loved the park and the aviary and guinea pig enclosure. And the walk to the beach was lovely and very safe.
The beach is great for body boarding but very windy and the tide goes a long way out. But there are little pools and a stream/river mouth to play in for the younger ones.
We ate at the Merrymoor Inn at Mawgan Porth and the food was great. All home cooked and very reasonably priced.
A lovely weeks' holiday was had by all and we would throughly recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here when we went to see Jack Johnson play at watergate bay. Never in my life have I experienced weather like it. The site held up well despite getting an absolute battering. Amenities were satisfactory and well kept. Not the most lively of sites but it is tucked out of the way and ideal for a quiet get away from it all trip. A short walk down a public footpath brings you to a shop, pub and a beach, watergate bay is not much further and Newquay is a short drive away. I imagine it looks beautiful in the sunshine as well.

Fantastic park. Stayed here about 16 years ago and am not sure why we haven't been back since.
Beautifully kept, excellent washing facilities for people and clothing.Even a special surfers shower! As we stayed in a static, rather than camping, I can't comment on the showers etc, but they always looked very clean and spacious.
The site has the most amazing veiws down the valley to the beach, and if the weathers right, you can get amazing sunsets :0) Veiws of rolling hills and very noisy sheep made a wonderful change from our ususal veiw.
There are three very good farm shops with local and organic produce, details of which are in the welcome pack. The one right next door will even take orders for home made pasties for your dinner. You need to let them know the night before though.
Walked round the camping area each night, the pitches were spacious and level, with easy access to the washing facilities.
The path to the beach can get muddy in parts if it's been raining, but didn't put us off. Would say it's about 20 minutes at an easy pace.
They also have a large games trunk with outdoor toys and belly boards to borrow free of charge, which is handy.
Don't expect much in the way of an on site shop though. A few freezer bits and sweets is about it, although there is a good supermarket and newsagents in Mawgan Porth. The newsagents deliver papers to the site if you would like one.
All in all this is a great site for families and very quiet after 10.30, not even noisy before that really. I can highly recommend the cream teas at St Mawgan a few miles down the road, and the Falcon Inn there is very quaint and does great food. Don't think it's open lunch times though.

This has got to be one of the best sites in north cornwall .The site is spotless and the showers perfect.Very handy for visiting most of the north coast but an hours drive can get you almost anywhere in cornwall. The beach is ten minutes walk away .Quiet at night but this is a bonus if thats what you want. Been back since and the standards are still the same.
