Arrived here in last week of june for 10 nights with 2 adults and twin 17 month old toddlers, We were expecting a brilliant, quite site with excellent facilities. We were not let down in any way shape or form.
On arrival we noticed how immaculate the gardens and valley was, also how pretty it was. We had a warm welcome and the pitch we had was just perfect. It was quite and peaceful (except for the guinee fowl, who were very chatty LOL :)).
We then done the toilet and facilities check and were amazed at how clean they were. Laundery cost £6 for a 18lb wash, spin and 1hr on the tumble dryer. I thought this was good value for money. They even have microwaves and a small oven to use for a small charge.
Animals were well kept too and a nice little touch. The playground was also brilliant and had everything there for all ages.
We did walk to the beach with the twins in buggies and it took slightly longer than 10 mins but not that much. It was a stuggle when carrying things but we found it ok.
Overall prob the best site we have been to in this area and probably since we have been camping (6yrs and many sites) and have booked for next year already. Would highly recommend the site and say that the owners are very nice. (they came round most nights and chatted to people)

After completing 20 years of taking my wife and children on holiday with me I have subsequently obtained my chauffeur proficiency badge and progressed to taking my 80+ in-laws with my wife instead!
With the simple instruction to obtain any campsite (but with the proviso that it must involve a static caravan complete with double-glazing and central heating) we ventured west and it was with trepidation that I booked a week at Sun Haven. Plenty of 'Brownie Points' were gained however, as the campsite was declared the best we have stayed at and the only one to be considered when we re-visit the West of Cornwall.
The campsite was so peaceful (admittedly out-of-season) with stunning views of the valley. By keeping the central field clear of pitches it enhanced the general feeling of openness as the nearest caravan when looking out of our lounge window was more than 100 metres away. I must point out however, that there was a second row of statics behind ours that would not have enjoyed the same unhindered and beautiful view.
The proprietors were extremely friendly and helpful resolving the few minor issues we had immediately. I couldn't tempt any of my party to join me in the games room so cannot comment on that particular facility and although never used, the toilet block did appear to be very clean and modern. My wife was very impressed with the fact that every static caravan had its own rotary line (as is the norm this had to be pointed out to me on the third day before I fully appreciated its significance to a camping holiday).
The path to the beach is a very pleasant 20 - 25 minute walk but not suitable for the elderly and I would not have relished pushing a buggy along it either though other reviewers do not seem to mind.
Unfortunately, the main road is actually a country lane requiring various passing points with the standard blind spots of brows of hills and quite sharp bends. Personally, I would not recommend using this to walk to the beach especially if accompanied by young or elderly family members.
All-in-all an excellent campsite that I would fully recommend to all fellow chauffeurs of elderly in-laws (plus wife) in search of a peaceful holiday.
Oh, the local beaches, bays and food were quite good too.

SITE OWNERS RESPONSE TO ANT SEARCY's REVIEW. - In 2007 we posted our pitch sizes (mainly 8m wide, depths 5-11m) on the internet & helped select one for anyone who asked or even mentioned the subject - and then we allocated them on a first-come first-served basis.
'USABLE AREA' - As some guests arrived with very large tents/setups without having checked that the pitches would accommodate them , we have this year effectively imposed a tent-size limitation for the summer, & are trying to do 'fitting' checks ourselves. A great deal of business turned away, but probably worthwhile. It was pointed out to us that the phrase 'maximum tent size' that we started with did not cover gazebos, pup-tents etc. So we changed this to 'USABLE AREA' - a more accurate but far too complicated phrase. Most people seem to appreciate what we are doing - even though we made a hash of the way we set it out.
As for the wait - apologies to Mr Searcy - what he possibly couldn't see through the eight foot hedge that obscures the view of his pitch for most people, was the three people working to cut grass, lay bark-chippings where tents left muddy areas, etc. Etc. And finally drainage-spike ALL the pitches (not just his) with industrial size equipment after damp campers had left (usually late due to the “Summer washout” acknowledged). Most guests appreciated the extra effort we had to put in because of the weather and were willing to wait/help/be tolerant – and the number of times we didn't meet our midday deadline was far exceeded by those times when people turned up as much as four hours early wanting access.
The last HALF MILE of our recommended route is a Cornish lane with ‘cornish hedges’- effectively single-track with passing places - but we note that it is easily negotiable to the local bus companies full size buses (including a daily double-decker), a 34 foot Winnebago and daily large delivery vehicles from national couriers and builders merchants. I’m not sure what the expectations are in a quiet wooded Cornish valley but we will ammend the website to declare our 1/2 mile.

A really nice holiday park, good safety with locked gates at the enterance. There is a play area, a bird cage and a few guinea pigs to amuse the kids, as well as a TV (plasma) and game room for them to play. It sure kept my three occupied (2, 4 and 6 years).
As we went off season, we were the only ones there which was wonderful. The shower/toilet facilities are good (free hot water). A seperate private bathroom is available for a small fee.
There is a free freezer to use for ice packs, and ice packs available on loan.
The owners of the park were very helpful. It was a pleasure staying there. Our stay was 4 nights.
The beach is a short walk away and has some rock pools and sandy areas to keep kids entertained.
Our kids enjoyed their stay as did we. Would definitely return in the future.

Very nice holiday park, with great facilities for our kids (4, 8,and 11)
Playground, Tv room and games room much used - a pleasure every time!
Beach very satisfactoy and beautiful - and the walk down to the beach quiet - though some places difficult with buggy, and took about 5 min (with kids) and was very flat.
Pitches spacious and good.
The sites only downfall was a lack of drainage. There had been a lot of rain (understatement!) And I and my wife woke up on our first morning to find our tent standing in 5 in of water! Everyone was muddy and several other couples/families were having the same problems.
By lunchtime though, the owner and his workers had put down wood chips everywhere and given us a spare tarpaulin for our Gazebo.
The same afternoon we had a very pleasurable trip to the beach!
Another asset to this site is it's situation. It was very sheltered and calm (in a valley) and every evening after putting kids in bed I and My wife could go on a quiet walk - very pituresque! The security was excellent - and was no noise after 9.30 every night and so was great for kids.
Another downfall were the showers. We discovered that a family of beetles/spiders/moths inhabited both shower blocks
But Thanks for a great holiday!

After reading the latest reviews of this campsite I feel compelled to add one myself, having just received the 2008 booking form.
When we stayed last August after the Summer 'Washout'. On arriving at the site we were made to wait on the steep road outside the reception block, even though we arrived well after the stated arrival time, and our pre booked pitch could be seen to be vacant from the top of the hill! And that was after enduring the horrendous single track road to the site, that conveniently never gets mentioned.
Finally when we were allowed to go to our pitch, we couldn't believe how crowded it was and how small the pitch was for our touring caravan. Without the help of some of the people already pitched up we wouldn't have been able to get onto our pitch, as there was no room to reverse and manoeuvre the caravan on.
We could only just fit our caravan/awning/and vehicle onto the allocated space.
I pointed it out to the staff that some of the larger looking pitches only had small 2/3 man tents on them whilst we and other touring caravans were crammed onto the smaller pitches.
So the warning is read their 2008 booking form VERY CAREFULLY as there is a confusing little point called 'useable area' which makes interesting reading!

My family and I stayed in Sun Haven Valley for two weeks. There were never ending activities in the surrounding area, beautiful beaches, lovely views.
Our pitch did get flooded, but the campsite owners came and put down wood chips etc. The owners were actually very friendly, and kept the campsite clean and quiet. After lights out the kids could get to sleep easily. The toilets were very clean as were the showers. The kids, 7 and 4, loved the play area and tv room, we didnt use the games room although that looked fun for older kids. We used the tv room for football matches, it was very nice to use any of the facilities.
The beach was within walking distance, a very nice walk, and there were supermarkets very close, as well as churches etc. We had a very nice stay and only cannot go back again because it is too far! it was a lovley stay which I will never forget. Our pitches were very uncrowded, and not too expensive. I would reccomend this campsite to anyone with or without children.

We have just returned from a lovely 2 week stay at this site. When we arrived it was raining (understatement!) and the ground was very wet but the owners had mowed the pitch and spiked it to help with drainage. It continued to rain for the next 2 days and some of the pitches were flooded with mud - they were in a real mess! The ground staff must be praised for everything they did to help these people working tirelessly digging trenches and laying bark - well done! Although our pitch was water logged we did not flood due to our sewn in ground sheet and once the sun came out it dried up quickly.
The kids loved this site - the playground was very safe for them and with the road well marked we knew they would be okay. The 10.30 curfew was great and all was quiet for 11 pm.
The facilities were good and cleaned every day between 11-2 pm but we did have to queue for a shower on a couple of occasions. That said I thought it very good that you could hire a bathroom for £2 for half an hour and give the kids a good bath! - well worth it. Unfortunately we had our ice packs taken by someone else from the freezer - bad camping etiquette!
The walk to the beach was lovely and safe to walk along with the kids running ahead. There is a good deli and shop selling everything you need but they did excellent sandwiches!
The village of St Mawgan is about a 20 minute walk in the other direction and we went to the village fete where we were made very welcome by the locals - me and my daughter attended the Methodist Church on the Sunday morning and again were made very welcome.
All in all this site was lovely and even better when the weather cleared up! There are lots of things to do both within walking distance and a short drive away (Watergate bay is a must! and Padstow was lovely but go early to get parking spaces!) All in all an excellent holiday and we would definitely use this site again.

Good location and reasonably clean but a bit cramped. The top half of the campsite with statics is quite spacious but the bottom section feels very cramped with seemingly cars everywhere. We arrived just after the early summer deluge and things had obviously been quite muddy but our pitch was fine.
Another annoyance were the street lights, especially as our tent was under one which made it feel a bit like sleeping in a car park!
However the campsite was well kept and nicely landscaped. Washblocks were adequately clean and there is a lovely walk down a footpath to the beach, which takes about 15 minutes.
Coastline is great but we found this part of Cornwall just a bit too crowded.

We had a two night stay at Sun Haven on 7th and 8th September. What a lovely site. Wonderful attention to detail, from the free hot showersandprivate hire bathrooms to the many availablepicnic tables around the site.
For those visiting who have young children there is a very good play park.
It was a very quiet weekend so plenty of space and very peaceful. I'm sure during the height of the season things would probably be quite different as the lay out of the park would make everyone seem quite
