A nice site located on the old A12 at Saxmundham/Carlton. Their are amenities on the site that are used by both campers and caravanners. Water points are located on the sites although the camping site has only one in the middle. The shower/Toilet block is kept nice and clean. The other amenities block is also well kept and you are asked to help by cleaning the sink after you have used it (which I think is fair enough). There is a sports field next to the site. Animals are allowed on the site although we didn't take our dog. The site for tents has electricity points although it could benefit by having a toilet block sited there. A small one would do. Saxmundham has a range of small shops and and a supermarket as well as bus services has a rail service as well. Their are plenty of footpaths/bridleways to explore and you can explore by cycle if you wish. All in all it is a nice site and well maintained and the few days we spent there we enjoyed it and will go back again. An ideal site for exploring from.

Had a great weekend at this site. The shower and washing facilities were tip top every time I visited and it was nice not to be attacked by a mouldy shower curtain when trying to wash! The pitches were slightly sloped but they were large and spacious which gave you a choice of how to pitch your tent to make sure the blood didn’t rush to your head during the night! This is a great base to visit Suffolk, coast and inland - big skies and pig sties!

This was our first visit to this site and I am sure it's the first of many! From booking the pitch to arriving and pitching on site, so easy and straightforward everything was perfect!.
All the pitches were clearly marked on our arrival with 'reserved' and your surname so there was no confusion as to where to pitch, the friendly wardens came round later in the day to collect our fee once we were pitched.
This site and all pitches are very spacious, this site is quiet & peaceful, mostly level and very pretty. The whole site and surrounding sports fields and grounds are very clean, tidy and well maintained as is the children's play area. This play area is great with lots for all ages although those with younger children should note that the play area is across the football / recreation fields and not within sight of the camping pitches so you would need to supervise.
The facilities we found to be clean and well tended, with plenty of hot water and good sized showers, the only thing I would say is it would be nice to have some kind of shelving etc next to the sinks as a place to put your toiletries etc, only a little niggle I know and this really is the only thing that I could say about this otherwise perfect site!
No shop on site but you are only 1/2 mile from saxmundham, however at our time of visiting the local supermarket was closed down and due to reopen later in the month, but we were well prepared.
We enjoyed the lovely walks around the area, Carlton Church is along the footpath behind the campsite and it is beautiful, we passed this on our way through to the nearby Poachers Pocket Pub, which is a really lovely country pub, serving great value tasty home-cooked meals and with very friendly and accommodating staff.
All in all a great site which we would recommend to all.

Just come back from a weekend stay at Carlton Park. Nice site with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Very spacious camping area. Clean toilets and showers though I feel there were not enough showers considering the size of the park. Washing machine and freezer also available for your ice packs. We didn't use a hookup but there did appear to be quite a few available. The site itself was quite dark and there were a few uneven surfaces so you had to be careful when walking over to the toilet block.
As I'd read the reviews before I booked I was expecting the man to come round on his bike on the Saturday morning, which he did. He was both friendly and helpful.
Just a short trip into Saxmundham if you need to go to the shop or the takeaway if your BBQ won't light. The beautiful Suffolk coast a short drive away plus local towns nearby. You're only about a 30 minute drive away from Ipswich.
One of the best things about the site was it's recycling facilities - glass, paper, tins and plastic bottles!
Would definitely return to the site and will also recommend it to other campers.

We have been to this site 3 times now.
It is spacious, good size pitches and plenty of room for children to play.
The toilets and showers are fine, and cleaned regulary, and the site has the added bonus of family shower rooms, which my family of four could all shower, use the toilet and brush our teeth in rotation and in complete privacy.
The warden is polite and doesn't bother you once you are settled.
The tennis courts are great just remember to take your own bats!
We don't live to far away from this site (80 miles) and we will always use this site if the weather looks great for the weekend at short notice.
They also reply quickly to emails sent to the site, and do there best to accommodate you.
If you get the chance, visit Walberswick and get the boat over to Southwold, both places are lovely and definitely worth a visit. If you don't fancy the boat there is a bridge further down the water.

Lovely site. We pitched next to the tennis courts and the noise of tennis balls being hit about was very soothing.
Good flat pitch with large area in the centre of the field for the children to run around in.
The play area is a long walk but that just added to wearing the kids out!
Toilet block is clean and perfectly adequate. Family shower rooms are excellent.
A great site to use as a base to tour the area.

My Family have been visiting this site for the past 3 years. We love this site as it is both for families and couples and retired people. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The site facilties are clean with Toilets and showers combined. There are also Family shower rooms which belong to the sports ground. These are set behind the main toilet / shower rooms. This I found great especially with small children as they want to move around and we have the chance to go in together and have some privacy. The caravan site is on a slope and is very peaceful good space for our caravan and awning. There are also tennis courts you can hire on site. A washing-up room. Washing machine plus tumbledryer which you can use for a charge. Free Spinner. Dogs are allowed on the site but have to be walked around the outskirts of the playing fields which suits dog owners. Grass is mowed weekly and recycling area for rubbish on site near the exit. The play area is a 5 minutes walk away across the cricket and football ground. Great for the children to fly kites and ride their bikes to and a area to park bikes. Fantastic adventure play area which is designed within a basin shape set into the ground and quite quiet. Trees around the outskirts of the basin and good modern facilities with deathslide. I admit I wouldn't like my young children to go on their own as they would be out of site but It's great to take a picnic with you. Picnic tables situated there. The children would spend all afternoon there if they could. The play area is always popular. The town Saxmundham is a pleasent short walk away and has a market once a week and Somerfield is open till 10pm most nights is really handy to get any essentials. Lots of places to buy food and some resturants Chinese, Indian. A Butcher, Chemist, Small toy shop and newsagent to name a few and a hotel and some pubs. I find the site in a great location to get to Southwold, Thorpness and Orford and Snape. We park our touring caravan here from April to end of October. We love it!

I have just returned from this site having spent two nights there with my 3 young children.
On arrival we were offered the choice of 2 pitches - one was a bit cramped and right opposite the toilets so I chose the other. Bit of a mistake really as we were pitched right against the car park which was busy all of Saturday with people coming to play football in the fields, so lots of noise and no privacy. A few young lads in boy racer cars too on the Saturday afternoon revving up their cars . Grr!
The man on the bike was very friendly and helpful and we didn't have to rush off on the Sunday which was nice. However, I personally found the site on the scruffy side, there are lots of vans there that are obviously pitched for the duration - we saw only 3 in use during the time we were there. Nothing wrong with that, but there was long grass growing up around them and it just looked a bit unkempt.
The play area is FAR too far away - it may be affiliated to the site but you have to leave the caravan field and walk across 2 or 3 football pitches to get there! The kids loved it, but because it was so far away and open to the public I wouldn't be at all comfortable letting them go by themselves, though I would be happy enough doing this on other sites, where it is close by and I can see them.
The site is in a good place for visiting surrounding areas and I'd recommend anybody coming to this area to go to Thorpeness - we had a lovely few hours on the boating lake and walking around there, it's lovely.

I am happy to say that all the views held in the previous reports are still true.
The man on the bike is chatty and helpful. The site is large but pitch numbers are kept low so that there is space.
Toilets/showers still a walk from the bottom end of the tent pitch area. We pitched next to the tennis courts, which can be used for a low fee. Also family showers are a great idea.
This is a relaxed low pressure site and we thoroughly enjoyed being here. It is a good base for going to Southwold with a lovely little sandy beach and modern pier and also Alderburgh which was a revelation. We ate in a lovely chinese restaurant attached to a pub in the local village of Saxmundham and had a bbq on the second night.

I booked this site at very short notice for one night only. I particular liked the 'planner' on the website which gave the available dates - this could save quite a lot of time in ringing round. I received an immediate reply (by e-mail) and then confirmation of my booking a short time later (also by e-mail). I received sufficient information (door codes etc) to turn up and pitch, and use the toilet & shower facilities without any hassle at all, even though it was quite late. A friendly bloke came round the next morning to collect my fee (in my case, one small tent, no EHU) of £7 which I thought was reasonable. The site was clean and litter free, and although it teemed it down with rain, remained remarkably well-drained. I actually spotted a fellow camper walking his dog and collecting litter at the same time - he said it was his habit! This could (should?) start a trend. One minor gripe was that there should have been hand-wash dispensers and hand drier in the toilet area.
