This was our first caravan trip, so we chose this park due to the location.
It is a lovely site with nice clean facilities.
The check in process was quick and easy and the site is well laid out.
There is a nice dog walking area and a great place for keen fishermen.
There was plenty room in each pitch.
My only complaint was that the shower block was really cold but to be fair the weather was unusually cold for the time of year.
We would highly recommend this site and we will go back.

Lovely spacious site, many level pitches.
Lady at reception is lovely and chatty especially when I phoned to book our nights stay.
Very clean showers and toilets, dishwashing facilities and clothes washers with airers.
There is a covered play park to keep the kids happy even on the rainiest days.
Very friendly atmosphere with fellow campers on hand to help us out when we realised we had forgotten a connection for filling our aquaroll.
This is a lovely peaceful site, on the more expensive side but worth it.

Gart Holiday Park was always a site we lusted after as tenters. Lush lawns, wide open space, close to a pleasant Scottish village. As tents were not allowed, we waited for a whole seven years before making the trip there last week in our caravan. Did it live up to our expectations ? I would say its a tale of two halves.
First, the positives. It's an extremely well located site, easily accessible from the M9 and close to many attractions such as Stirling, Blair Drummond Safari park, Loch Katrine and the Trossachs National park to name but a few.
It is within walking distance of Callender for the hearty and for the not so hearty, it's just a five minute drive away. The access is good and the reception area has a large parking area so you can easily leave your van without blocking access while you check in.
The first view of the park is very attractive with well kept grass and mature conifer trees around the edge of the park. The statics are situated in their own area further into the park. There is a very picturesque private riverside area with free fishing and a fantastic on site dog walk, the best we have ever seen. It is a small piece of woodland that has been fenced off with proper pathways around, always dry underfoot as they were barked ( no pun intended!). Not a huge area but our dog was happy to go round a few times on each walk and loved all the trees to sniff.
The toilets and showers also excellent although soap lacking in the men's.
Now the constructive criticism. We were delighted to have so many pitches to choose from when we arrived on a Monday afternoon, however on closer inspection, quite a few were closed off because they were too muddy and some of the others were just too hilly to try and level the van on. Sadly the flattest and seemingly driest pitches seemed to be taken up with seasonal pitches.
It was on the end of a bank of these that we finally found a flat enough pitch that did not have too much standing water on it. The pitch however remained boggy for our whole stay even though there were periods of dry weather. It was very difficult to keep the entrance to the caravan clean and with a dog, it was nearly impossible.
We would strongly urge the park owners to invest in hard standings. There was so much grass and parkland landscaping, it would hardly spoil the scenery and it would enhance the overall experience as Scotland is never likely to suffer a major drought anytime soon.
Be aware that in high season it might be difficult to find a pitch you like after about 4 pm on a Friday. As the park filled up, we watched people driving round and round and even moving after they had pitched up. Take blocks in case you have to settle on an uneven pitch.
We love dogs as you can see from this and wouldn't be without our boy but even we got very frustrated to see that despite the signage all over the park, people were letting their dogs walk round the park without a lead on. For responsible dog owners who have taught our lively dog not to misbehave in the van, this was annoying as two different dogs wandered right up to the door of our van making our dog very excited. At least the 2 dogs in question were with their owners.
One evening a collie and a lab were running around unchecked. I was just about to call reception as there were cars and kids on bikes etc when I realised that one of the dogs belonged to a park warden. Not a good example, which is maybe why this practice went unchecked.
On to the wardens, very industrious keeping the grounds clipped and strimmed but we did not find our welcome or check in very warm or friendly. However, this was redeemed a couple of days later when a different warden was on duty, she was very helpful.
We would go back for a weekend to the park as its only 1. 5 hours from home and for all the positives mentioned. We will probably not go back for longer unless they put in hard standings or sort the pitch drainage out.

Nice spacious, landscaped site. It has the feel of a club site.
Clean and tidy facilities with plenty of sinks, etc. So shouldn't be a problem if it gets busy.
1 mile walk into the town, which looks like it has a varied selection of bars, restaurants and shops.
My only complaint is I had to take some attitude about my campervan being a 'commercial vehicle'. It is not : it is home converted, but has been inspected and registered as a motorhome. We only got to stay because we were staying one night.
For this reason they're highly unlikely to get my custom in future.

Had a great couple of days here during the hot weather at the end of May.
Large open site with loads of green space, fully serviced pitches (all of them) and free fishing in the river.
The facilities are all held in a central pavilion within easy reach and were modern & well looked after.
It's an easy 20 minute walk into Callander with a co-op along the way.
Minuses - as others have said - no ground coverings of any kind (not a problem in a heatwave), and no wi-fi or 3g phone reception.
Having the option of paying a few extra pounds to extend the checking out time is a great idea - will definitely be back.

Visited this site for the third year running for a 2 night stay with my 2 youngest children. It is a lovely well kept spacious site and we once again pitched in the area recommended for families around a big grassy area perfect for playing on and safe for kids to cycle around while we watched from the caravan. Just opposite this is a huge enclosed play park with trees play equipment and a giant sandpit which is under a huge canopy so if it rains or sun is strong kids can still get out to play.
It is within walking distance of Callender with a lovely selection of shops, pubs and restaurants and another nice park by the river. Toilets and showers were very clean and tidy and wardens helpful. Plan to come back again next year as it is only 40 minute drive from home.

The gart caravan site is a very easy site to reach as it's directly on the road into Callander coming from Stirling, nestled between woods with a cemetery beside it the only noise you hear is from the main road outside it but this is minimal if you park far enough away from the front end really.
The reception is well stocked with tourist info & the staff were very friendly too, toilet block was very clean & the water was nice & hot also.
It's a nice wooded site with relatively flat grass pitches(no hard standings) & the hook up/water are all very close to the pitches too.
There's no shop on site but the local spar is a 5min walk away & Callander itself has a Scotmid & a Tesco express at the far end of the village for food etc.
When we arrived it had been raining hard for a few days & we did struggle to find a pitch that was not waterlogged, most had an inch of standing water, but as you can choose your own pitch we soon found a dry 1 at the entrance to the site to pitch up on.
In the summer this would not have been a problem. Being wet we did struggle to keep both our feet & caravan clean/free from mud because of the 'no awning covers' rule.
I do wish they'd make at least some hard standing pitches cause we did feel sorry for the people that had dogs on this pet friendly site because of this rule.
But newspapers were put down & shoes were off asap keeping the dirt to a minimal during our stay.
All in all a very pleasant site & 1 we will be going back in the summers months for sure as it's a great base for exploring from.
My only moans were that the showers don't stay 'on' long enough forcing you to press the button every 20 seconds whilst trying to wash yourself, but once I'd mastered the art of pressing it with my elbow whilst washing every 10 seconds or so I had a constant stream of water without interruption

Visited this site twice now this year.
Very well kept, wardens very friendly and always giving you a wave. 10 min fast stroll into town for pubs and food, although there is a pub just yards from the entrance to the site.
Has a small number of statics. No tents allowed.
You can pay a small surcharge for late departure times which is good.
Only really bad thing is that all pitches are grass, and in this rainy location this can be boggy. For this reason, I presume, they do not allow ground coverings, even breathable. This is not good, however as long as its not too wet, you will be ok.
I did put down a small picnic mat at my entrance in the awning, and no one saw it, so I would just do that.
Good large half covered play area for kids, although not much else on site for them to do.
As I have a 13 year old, she enjoyed walking into town with her pals and spending my money on junk.

Excellent site, setting and facilities. Staff and fellow campers very friendly and helpful.
Showers and toilets excellent and well maintained.
Designated family area which allows quite and peaceful areas for those without children and a safe play area for families, excellent play facilities.
Within walking distance to Callander for supplies etc and within short driving distance to scenic walking / visitor attractions.
Excellent facilities for dogs.

First time at this site and it is lovely. The best site we have ever stayed on. Spacious, immaculately kept. Vast areas of manicured grassy areas which were not pitches just adding to the feeling of space. Select your own pitch.
The dog walk was a fully fenced area of trees and wild grasses with a bark track winding around and lots doggy waste bins. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Shower block clean and warm, free showers and electricity, and even a hairwashing sink with extending spray hose.
Only a mile from Callendar which can be walked either along a footpath beside the main road, or cross the road outside the entrance and onto a cycle track, from here there are loads of lovely walks. Every thing has been thought of and provided.
One major snag - no ground coverings allowed at all in awnings. A nightmare in what must be one of the wettest parts of the British Isles. With 2 dogs and torrential rain for 2 days of our 5 day stay, on already sodden ground, the inside of our awning was like Glastonbury!
When I booked I told them I had 2 dogs and an awning, was charged for the awning but was not told of the no ground cover rule or I would not have proceeded with the booking.
The stay was the least relaxing holiday we have ever spent in our van thanks to trying to minimise amount of mud trodden into van. I see no sense in this rule at all.
Had we had ground cover down, yes the grass may have been slightly yellowed but with no covering at all it was completely worn away and a mud bath. A breathable awning carpet actually protects the grass.
This is not providing a service to their customers. For this reason we will never be back.
