This site was awful. We picked it as it had good facilities, was CCC approved and we could have a drink and maybe eat there, close to Alnwick. Not a very warm welcome and £20 for 1 night (EHU £2 extra) quite expensive, but too late to find anywhere else. The place was strewn with litter, food and junk such as old window frames, pub signs and doors. We cleared some of it up and bagged it as it was so bad. The toilet and shower are in garden sheds which would not be a problem, but there was no loo paper, soap or towels and only cold water. The site adjoins some kind of car scrap yard so our view was of a rotting vintage car of some sort. We left as early as we could without using the shower (no idea if good/bad, hot or cold) or pub and it was a sad end to a great tour of Scotland and Northumbria, where we stayed in some superb campsites which I've given superb reviews and phoned one owner up to thank him personally. We also stayed for free at a pub car park and enjoyed a nice meal and a few drinks with the very welcoming owner. I don't like giving bad reviews, but took the time out to warn people it's obviously not what it was. We will not be returning here!

The site is conveniently located to walk into Alnwick town which is very beautiful and historic. As you leave the car park turn left down the lane and you can walk across country into Alnwick coming out by the castle. The facilities at the campsite were adequate, clean toilet, shower and chemical toilet disposal point. Suzanne the pub landlady was very welcoming to me and my two Border Collies, the pub served a good real ale unfortunately I arrived on Tuesday which was Brian the chef and manager`s night off, however Suzanne did offer to cook something for me. The following day I went in the pub to use the free Wi-fi and have a pint as the weather awful and met Brian who was extremely friendly and welcoming. That night my brother & his wife joined me for dinner and it was top class, beautifully presented and great value for money. I would recommend a stay here and treat yourself to some excellent pub food, I will definitely be going back.

Small, friendly site at the top of a hill just out of the town centre with basic but well kept and clean shower and toilet facilities. All pitches have electric and the site is a mix of grass and hardstanding pitches. Alnwick is just a short walk away and worth exploring if only for the castle and gardens that feature in the Harry Potter films. The walk back is up hill so you get your exercise and can rest afterwards in the pub with either a drink or meal or both. The food is very good and reasonably priced. We would recommend this site and will be staying again soon.

We have just spent 4 nights at this lovely clean and quiet little site. It is a 15 minute downhill walk to Alnwick town centre. (A bit harder walking up the hill but good exercise) and it is an excellent base for exploring beautiful Northumberland. Bambourgh Castle, Holy Island and Seahouses are easily accessible and Alnwick Castle just a 20 minute walk away.
The site is right next to the pub and you should really go in and have a drink as Bob, the owner, is extremely friendly, helpful and you cannot fail to like him. Joined in with the locals on quiz night and had a good laugh.
His food menu is not easily visible as he will prepare something if you tell him what it is you want and it is locally available the day before.
Facilities are a bit limited, one toilet and one shower located in garden sheds - but they do the job and are clean and functional. There are also the toilets in the pub if necessary.
We had a lovely time, thank you Bob.

Spent 4 nights here. Site is a small grassed paddock attached to the pub with five marked pitches. Each has electric, levelling blocks, a key to the toilet and shower room, and flagstones to keep your unit off the grass. There is a chemical waste point on the site and water. Grey waste had to be discharged into the drains used by the pub, which was fine albeit a little tricky! The toilet and shower are housed in sheds but are well maintained and quite adequate. I used the shower, which was nice and hot and there was even a chair to put your clothes on. Site was well maintained and the resident ducks were a great addition. There were lots of birds on the site too, we wish we had had a book to identify them all! The owner was very friendly and helpful and a good host in the pub. The pub was dog-friendly and our two loved the sausages and cheese Bob produced for them! You can walk into Alnwick town in about 15mins, the castle was about another 5 mins further on. Best to book your castle tickets online prior to your visit as you save 10%. There is a Morrisons in the town and plenty of places to eat. There is also a huge second hand book shop which has 1000s of books. Our pitch cost £20 per night which included electric and our 2 dogs, a fair price considering its proximity to the town. We would definitely stay there again. Bamburgh castle and sandy beach (dog friendly) are approx 20 mins drive from Alnwick and definitely worth a visit.

What a little gem we have found. A very friendly site with lovely people to help if you need. This is one of those places you want to keep to yourself but can't help but talk about!
We had such a great time we will be visiting again really soon! Pet friendly, with beach's and shops close by, but with a real Spain feel! Will tell my friends to go, but not to many!

The site was totally run down and uncared for. The field was adjacent to the pub and had no security. The pub looked uninviting and advertised B & B but the doors always seemed locked and windows dark and dingey,
The facilities. 1 toilet + 1 shower were housed in 2 wooden sheds which were obviously leaking, no heating, the toilet bowl and washbasin were clean but rusty connections and there was no hot water in the toilet. (H+S)! The shower shed had major leaking problems and was cold and wet, I made a quick exit. The field was muddy and puddled and the hard standing was just rows of flagstones. However there was EHU to use your own unit facilities but £20 per night is a joke. I booked and paid a £20 deposit in view of your previous reviews and was chased for a further £20 on my departure. There was no paperwork and no receipts. I was totally disappointed. This site needs an inspection because it should not pass the certification.

Shepherds Inn Rest, a great CS site in the heart of Alnwick. The site itself is a grass field adjoining the pub/inn with 5 pitches complete with flagstone runways to ensure some hardstanding during wet weather and boy did we have wet weather! Can’t complain really, it is still the middle of winter after all. Two small wooden sheds have been transformed into a toilet and a shower room. Perfectly adequate and kept clean, complete with sink, hand wash, towels, mirror etc. The sheds are accessed via a key which is allocated to you upon arrival. Water point and CDP are also in the same vicinity. Site has a slight slope for pitches 3-5; 1 & 2 are level side to side. Each pitch has its own 16A EHU along with levelling blocks. Access to the site is easy - through the pub’s car park, straight from the main road which runs through Alnwick.
The pub landlord and site owner is a fantastic guy. He met us upon arrival, which is always welcome and also proved to be a super host when we went to the pub for Sunday lunch. The pub is very homely, open fire, buffet style carvery, friendly people. Food was excellent. Just love walking only yards to your ‘van following lunch and some wine!
TV reception excellent as was mobile signal, always good for us self-employed caravanners! Three ducks headed up security on the site, we appreciated their efforts and rewarded them with some bread!
Alnwick town centre is walkable from the site, approx. 10mins. It’s quite a steep descent to the town, so return journey tests the legs! The castle, the gardens, Barter Books, Aln Valley Railway – lots to see and do in the area, more than you can do in a weekend. We love this part of Northumberland and we shall return, and yes, it will be to this site.

Seemed a nice site when we arrived, clean, well laid out, small shed for toilet and shower, basic but clean.
The site owner is very helpful and friendly (if not a bit overly when your trying to pitch up) and a brilliant host in the pub of an evening.
Caravan pitches all hardstanding, with grass awning space, although EHU and awning are extra on the pitch price, pushing the price to £24 a night, which for the facilities seemed excessive.
As the week went on, other things came to light, its a busy site, with little tent space, tents were pitched wherever a space was available, at times just behind the caravan, and one backpacker on a small 'verge' next to the driveway in. We were pitched with my parents in a corner, so it was easy for us to be together, but even then, another tent was pitched between us for a couple of nights.
There would have been more, as 2 other campers came, and when shown their pitch they decided to find elsewhere.
Pub was ok, choice of beers limited, cask ale hit and miss, only had it on one evening we were there (in a week)
Food excellent, although you do have to guess at pricing, as the menu is a post-it note, but all fresh home cooked food.
To sum it up, not a bad site, but Ive had the same facilities for half the price.

I have visited this site twice on the way from the South through to Scotland. The site is fantastic and is just next door to the pub. Pub is quite quiet and so no noise from pub. The owner is brilliant and friendly and they serve superb food and good drink. The campsite has excellent shower and toilet for a small site - five caravans etc. The grass areas and hardstanding are well laid out and the site is dog friendly. Very easy access from the A1 through Alnwick. My regular stopping place en route to Scotland but great place for a holiday. Cannot praise enough. Well done!
