What a gem of a site. Not only is it well located for Alnwick and the town's main attractions but for the wider locality. It is a great site situated behind the pub on the road to Rothbury out of Alnwick town centre. A short walk down the hill and you are in the heart of the market town.
The site amply meets the needs of a camper on a CL site. The pitches are level, but levelling blocks are also provided! Some of the pitches have hard standing too, so when we arrived in November amidst the torrential rain, accessing the pitch wasn't a problem. EHU was a bonus too and included in the pitch price.
The toilet is well cute, it's in a small wooden shed, but tardis like once inside (and well fitted out). There's a shower too in a separate building.
We dined at the pub in the evening and the very friendly and welcoming landlord offered us a choice of meals. The haddock and chips were amazing and we had a superb meal at a value for money price. The landlord offered to cook breakfast for us and this was a magnificent affair - fresh fruit, choice of juices, cereals and the hugest full english you could ever get. Wonderful!
A lovely small site, which I intend to return to.

We stayed here on our outward journey to Shetland and also on our return. The facilities are good although perhaps if busy another toilet would be good. The welcome is beyond reproach, very friendly indeed, so much so we spent every night in the pub which serves excellent food and good value for money. Alnwick is well worth a visit although we did not have time to really get to know the area (the Edinburgh Tattoo called, as did Shetland)but we are going back to see Lord Robert. We plan on returning with friends who will be taking bed and breakfast in the pub which is also good value but that is for next year and we are looking definitely looking forward to that break

Great little site, spent 5 nights there. Got original recommendation off here and then also saw it was a Camping & Caravan Club site. Dog friendly site (if on lead and they can get on with the ducks) Short walk down adjacent lane to grass area.
Short walk into town, but the less fit of us might want to take bus back as its up hill.
And Bob? What a star and comedian! We arrived Friday night, thinking a 'turn' was on. Never showed up but then he never does, but it doesn't really matter anyway. Beer good food good (dogs not allowed in pub unfortunately, mind you we do have three)
Toilet and shower blocks (well sheds actually but really well done out inside) Reminded me of the granddad's shed off chitty chitty bang bang.
Great site for exploring local area. Take a trip to alnmouth and go to red lion. Real ale and dogs welcome.
Will definitely re-visit the Shepard rest if bob lets us!

Visited this site for four nights, the site is well set out with flowering tubs, hanging baskets and well manicured grass.
The price for camping and caravan members is £20 so not sure how much for non members. The toilets and shower are basic, tiling of the toilet floor would be better if it was finished although Bob the owner has just had a new knee so when he recovers maybe it will be.
The pub is 'different' to say the least, with no menu but a choice of what's in the fridge, but Bob cooks very good food, we had steak and chicken with salad. The choice of beers is hit and miss, with a couple of draft beers, cider in bottles and Guinness in cans. The wine list is whatever is best value at Morrisons that day.
Within walking distance of Alnwick, good bus services to Bamborough, Seahouses, Newcastle etc.
Will return, just for the enjoyment of talking to Bob and the quirkiness of the pub.

Absolutely brilliant. Great pub too. Very friendly. Marvellous access from A 1 too and from Scotland. Dog friendly, people friendly, loos and shower basic but clean and very adequate. Good water and waste disposal. Pub food great. Definitely 5 stars.
I would definitely recommend this site. The 5 pitches all had good hardstanding with easy access in and out and from road. Electrics easy and the owner had left key for loos etc with torch on keyring. Nice touch.
I paid in the pub at the bar. Bar prices good and menu available all evening. Landlord is a chef and prices on that good. Access from A1 very straightforward but bypass Alnwick and the town gate. I will definitely go back on next trip to Scotland!
Only limited on child facilities because it is a pub with restrictions obviously under Licensing Act 2003 for children. Campsite would be fine for kids - chickens and ducks to pester!

Have stayed at this site before and enjoyed it, if not a bit pricey for a certified site £20 per night.
But on the second time we stayed with my ma and pa in law they stayed in the hotel just for one night for £75 and thought that that was a little pricey for what you go
The site itself is very nice but the toilet and shower were lacking, we were touring the highlands and our son dropped out to which my wife cancelled all six sites straight away and was given a full refund off them all apart from this one.
I really thought they were ok but to take 15 quid, a measly sum as we were all hoping to rebook for a week over the Christmas period
Alnwick spot on though

A lovely little site and just a short walk into Alnwick.
As earlier reviews have said, we also felt £20 was expensive for what you get.
The Shepherds Rest pub serves home cooking but it is a little quiet on weekday evenings.
This site is an ideal location for visiting Alnwick town and the Castle. It is also only a few miles away from Cragside which is a wonderful NT property.
The campsite facilities are indeed in garden sheds not luxurious but functional.

What a cracking little site!
Really lovely, with ducks walking about the place.
Each motor home plot had its own designated hook up & Bob had even supplied huge wooden chocks for each van should you feel the need.
The facilities are very clean & refreshingly rustic.
The toilet & shower are in two very well appointed separate sheds! Worth a visit in itself.
We will return to Alnwick & pay Bob a visit. We took our dog and found the town to be quite dog friendly.
Especially in a great pub called 'the dirty bottles'

Great little site, ten minutes walk down the hill to Alnwick (bus service if unfit or lazy) Site is £20 per night, has one shower and one toilet both in wooden huts ( it's worth the twenty quid just to see these) All electric hook ups' and the manager is doing the finishing touches with the hardstanding as can be a little muddy. Ducks keeping guard on site so something for the children to feed. Pub itself is very good, has it's share of locals who can only be described as 'real people' and were very friendly. Had a couple of meals there and they were spot on (his choice of wines are not too bad either. And Bob loves to barter on the price of these) In fact bob and his wife were perfect hosts (free pint next time I'm there)
Alnwick itself is a lovely little town with a lot going on, from restaurants, markets, the castle, gardens, museum, pubs, walks to name a few. We were there with our little dog and a few pubs would let him in try ODDFELLOWS on Narrowgate. The river walks past the castle are great. Try going left when coming out the site instead of the main road and it takes you down a winding road over the football fields down hill to the river and right to Alnwick, lovely little walk.
All in all loved our stay here and will be going back next year sometime

Stayed at this site in mid October as part of a short tour of Northumberland. There was need to be close to Alnwick as my wife was attending a course on one of our days away. We'd booked in advance so were expected. Bob (site owner and pub landlord)had returned to be there for our arrival. The first night we were the only ones on the small site. The site has five hardstanding pitches (paved) with electric hook ups. As mentioned in other reviews the toilet/hand basin is in one converted shed and the shower in another. Both clean and functional.
We ate (& drank) in the pub on the second night. There doesn't appear to be a menu, Bob creates the meal to suit the customer and the contents of the food store. Both meals were good.
The site is ideally placed to access Alnwick. Alnwick itself is delightful. I'd recommend the Castle & Gardens, Barter Books and the Cross Inn (PH).
