Location:
Well located within easy walking distance of the town centre (about half a mile), this site is an excellent base for exploring Northumberland and the town of Alnwick. Nice walks from the site up onto the moors.
Facilities:
Toilet and showers are located in converted sheds - nothing flash but they do the job! 5 pitches, all with electricity and hardstanding.
The pub serves good traditional food and the landlord is a great bloke.
Prices:
£20 per night for motorhome with two people and electricity. A little on the steep side for what you get, but well worth it for a stay here.

As earlier reviews have commented we can agree this site is indeed well cared for. We were lucky and fell on good weather, Bob mentioned he had re-seeded an area of grass and had also placed extra gravel to the front of paved run-on as previous days had brought heavy rain, again Bob was looking ahead to make sure all was well for his visitors.
Facilities are clean, and although one shower & one loo for all, we found fine for us.
We ate at the Shepherds and enjoyed our food, we had mentioned previously on our arrival that we were both veggie, after a bit of kind hearted rip-taking Bob had bothered to go out specially and source our meal that’s the sort of thing that makes holidays. The pub was open from 6pm while we were there and from 12 on a Sunday.
Loads to see and do in this lovely part of the country and this site is well placed for most things.
A bus runs past the entrance(the 473)to the site from town or you can have a stroll down if preferred, Bob and his good lady happened to be off into town, and as you would expect from this guy he offered us a lift. !

This is a clean, quiet & tidy site. All pitches now upgraded and all now have electric hook ups and each have attractive planting.
Facilities are limited, but did not cause us any problems - good shower with plenty of hot water. Excellent location for centre of Alwick and Alnwick Castle.
Bob, the owner, is extremely friendly & helpful - nothing is too much trouble.
If you want to visit this lovely part of the country, we would recommend this site.

Terrific little site. A work in progress when we visited but will be completed this year with the new electric hook-ups in place.
Great location right next door to the pub. We have on board facilities and use them but there was a shower and toilet on site and it's all good.
Town of Alnwick is just a short stroll down the hill and the fantastic Northumberland coast is just a short drive east.
Pub is a treat -- food quite simply out of this world in terms of portion size and taste. Landlord -- Bob -- makes Al Murray seem reserved; great fun and worth the trip alone! We could not have been better looked after. An absolute gem of a site -- highly recommended.

We were travelling down from Scotland and needed a place to stay where we could eat. We were there early enough to enjoy a stroll around the park which can be reached by turning left down the adjacent lane.
The site was adequate for our needs and the meal in the pub was OK. The food was very limited, but if we had known, we could have ordered beforehand and had a better variety.
My gripe is that for a site with one toilet in a wooden hut with similar shower, £20 is very pricey.

We booked this at short notice and received a very helpful response from the stand-in warden, (the owners were away), including the lady coming out especially to meet us as we were the only ones on the site on arrival.
This site has been newly created and time and effort has obviously been spent on making it nice, with feature planting and nightlights dotted around the grass making it easier to find your way in the dark etc.
The facilities are a toilet and a shower in separate sheds, but just be aware that the toilet is unlit at night so take a torch. The door must have been replaced as this now shuts and locks fine (see earlier reviews).
We didn't use the shower as we went swimming every day (the Swan centre at Berwick is brilliant for kids and well worth the travelling) and preferred to use their nice warm facilities, but I noticed that the people in the motorhome couldn't get it working.
Now I really have to say that this is not a site for tents, at least not outside the summer months. It was a very waterlogged site at the top part (where the electric hook ups are situated) and even a small motorhome was unable to drive onto its designated pitch without bogging down and hence had to park up in the small parking area instead.
We luckily had a footprint that kept the mud underneath everything but it was an absolute quagmire and I have spent a long time getting my very lovely canvas tent clean since returning home (gutted!). I felt awful really as we made a complete mess of the grass and the owner has obviously spent a lot of effort making it nice, but I wish we had been advised that it was too muddy for tents.
Maybe if the owner had been around then this would have happened. I would have gone elsewhere but it was too late that day to get somewhere else and pitched before dark. Incidentally, I looked at other sites in the area during my stay and although everywhere was pretty wet, the Club site at Dunstan Hill looked much better drained and more suitable for tents in October.
The other major problem was the set up of the electrics. There were two unprotected units, which were just dangling in the rain and became full of water. These then tripped out the pub and had to be turned off and we had no heating for the first very chilly and damp night.
It had dried out the next day but we had to shake the water out of the electrics and then bag them up and after that had uninterrupted supply for the rest of our stay. I can definitely recommend paying for hook up and taking a little heater for winter tenting! It makes the world seem that much nicer.
Other notes on the site, there was a very busy road just adjacent and it was next to a car repair place and they also had geese, so not one if you are looking for tranquillity.
None of these bothered us and our nice long sleeps but just thought I would mention it. The surrounding area is just lovely and with the exception of Seahouses, all the coastal towns are unspoilt and beautiful with the most fabulous beaches in the country (and I have tried a lot of them!).

The whole experience starts with the warmest welcome imaginable from Bob the landlord of the pub and site owner. A full explanation of the locations of the various facilities and their uses is given. The toilet and shower are in wooden chalets which are well insulated. During our week's stay they were cleaned daily. The site is a small gem, which Bob is continually improving. The flower beds and bushes must be a riot of colour in spring and summer but had died back when we visited The site was immaculately maintained and very tidy. The hard-standings for wheels were ideally placed and very welcome as it had rained constantly prior to our arrival but we had no worries about our van sinking into soft ground. The pub itself is quiet - no loud music, blaring jukebox or unruly drunks - and very well stocked. Children are welcome. An open fire adds the final homely touch. The bar meals are good, the menu is varied and all at a reasonable price. The Sunday carvery is without equal for quality, quantity or price. Any special dietary needs are catered for if prior notice is given. Alnwick town centre is a short walk. The town has many small specialist shops, cafes and bars. Well worth a visit is Alnwick Castle and its Garden. Hours can also be spent in Barter Books, situated in the old railway station. The coastal towns of Amble, Alnmouth, Craster, Beadnell and Seahouses are all within easy reach. Other towns well worth a visit are Warkworth, Rothbury and Morpeth. This is a site which we will use again!

Having driven down the A1 from Scotland, with 3 children, we were looking for somewhere late on in the day and happened upon the Shepherd's Rest on the way out of Alnwick. The site is new and located at the rear of the public house and is small (approx 1/2 dozen pitches). The welcome was very warm and friendly.
The site facilities are limited (1 toilet and shower), but reflect the size of the site (especially where caravan users may have their own facilities).
It rained quite heavily overnight, but we weren't washed away. The group of Italians staying over in 3 caravanettes were a bit noisy, but quietened down at about 11pm - and better that they are over here spending money on the British economy.
I didn't wait around to try out the breakfast as I had a long drive back down the country (shame).
The site is relatively new and needs finishing off, but is very promising.

This is a lovely little site, recommended by the camping and caravan club. The site is a short walk down hill to the town of alnwick approx 15 minutes. The castle is on the outskirts of the town however onky a further 10 minute walk or 5 minutes in the car from the site. The site is small and pretty the owner even had tubs of flowers at the pitch ready to set beside the caravan door (nice touch). The shower was brand new, a corner shower which was perfect, only one toilet on site however toilets in the pub so no hardship there. The pub is friendly, inviting and serves great food - carvery on a sunday try it.
The landlord and land lady are a lovely couple, very hospitable, I would definitely recommend this site for either a stopover or a few days rest.

Stayed here for a one night stopover. A nice little site at back of the pub. The toilet is in a sliding door hut, which the doors not closing too well and I cannot imagine many people wanting to use it, I certainly wouldn't.
Hook up available on 2 of five pitches. The pub itself seemed very quiet when we visited, and the beer selection is not very good. We did however eat a nice meal here at good cost. The owner of the site is a real character with a wonderful sense of humour and you could not fail to like him, also having a good knowledge of local history which he likes to share.
For a stopover or weekend break I think it is fine, but you need your own facilities.
£12 a night, top whack for what's on offer.
Walked into Alnwick for a pint, not dog friendly at all so didn't have a drink.
