I used the UKCampsite.co.uk late availability search to find Thriftwood holiday park, we were properly late deciding to get away for the bank holiday weekend and thus finding somewhere had become a little taxing. I called on Thursday evening and spoke with a polite gentleman who took our booking, the website is well laid out and the price structure is clear.
Electric/non electric is the same price and due to the last minute nature of our booking I was not surprised to find our tent fell in the non electric area.
We had booked as 2 families sharing one tent with a pup tent but the size of the unit according to the site rules dictated that we book 2 spaces, I was glad that we did although it pushed the cost up it gave us a great deal more room than we would have had. One 7. 2 x 3. 4 M tent, our 3 x 3 day tent and a pup tent were edge to edge on our pitch, don’t get me wrong we could have fit it on one pitch length ways but the width of the pitches was quite restricted.
The site owners took us to our pitch after we paid a £10 deposit for the shower room key and gate pass. A great idea, the site was extremely secure with a drop down barrier and retracting bollards in the ground.
The pitch was a little sloping and quite worn due to no doubt extensive use, but it was clean and well kept. The ground was hard and at the extreme end of stony, I have never tried to pitch on stonier ground but we managed with thread pegs breaking only one and delta’s that take some beating in my opinion.
As for the rest of the site the heated pool was a boon we all made use of it, the shop was overpriced and was missing some essentials, the club house/bar/restaurant was nice and clean although the tables are packed in quite tight its one of the better ones I’ve been in, the amusements are all £1 and 10p which my kids were disappointed with as they had 2p’s to spend. The hard standing pitches looked great, very well kept, level and well spaced. The toilets were fine but show their age against the fantastic showers that look like they are from a show home, top notch!
There was some but not much noise from the M20 and A 20, it may be on a flight path but again it was not that intrusive there was very little local noise and with Brands Hatch just down the road I expected more, may be it was a quiet weekend.
There is a big wooded area and a play area for the kids that we didn’t venture to and locally a couple of pubs but again we went further afield so I cannot comment on them.
In general I would give the site 8. 5 out of 10, the facilities were very good but we would have been a bit cramped on one pitch, I have been to better campsites for the money but it ranks in the top ones for me. I would definitely return.

We stayed at Thriftwood as we wanted somewhere not to far to meet friends on site and this was perfect. Really nice people and a very friendly welcome, the owner took us to our pitch and we had a lovely place as under a tree and in view of the kids park for our 8 year old son.
We were very lucky as we had lovely weather for the whole weekend and were able to use the outdoor pool which was lovely and warm and perfect for sun bathing. Kids all had there bikes with them and honestly I felt like I was back in the south of France, many nationalities and all very friendly, and amazing how kids all just play regardless of language barriers. This was the superbike weekend at brands hatch so was busy, but, not over cramped.
The ladies toilets and showers block has set my limits on all sites now as I have never found or yet too find such lovely blocks, a lot of thought and care has been put into this and well worth it too.
Will be going back too, Men checked out the bar area and that got thumbs up from them, kids like the games area and had fun trying to win sweets from the machines. Nice woodland walk which our dogs, thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend highly to others.

Thriftwood is a great site. This is the 5th time we have been here in the last 3 years as it is conveniently located very close to home and is perfect for a long weekend getaway.
The toilets and shower block have been refurbished and are really nice now and are a massive improvement.
My daughters really like the site because it has a small arcade, nice little clubhouse and an outdoor pool.
Security is excellent. The ground is exceptionally hard so take plenty of good quality rock pegs although if you forget they sell them in the small shop.
All in all an excellent site where your children can go off on their own with no worries.
Just tried to book a 4 night stay in late July/early August and have been told its going to cost me £46 per tent per night !
This is more than double what we usually pay and whilst I understand that its peak season, the site, nice as it is, is now way overpriced. Not sure if the price hike has anything to do with the Olympics, but we wont be going back at those rates I'm afraid.

This was our first camping trip as a family. We arrived to find very helpful chaps in reception. They decided to move us from our original pitch because there were a lot of groups in, and thought as a family, we may feel left out. The chap took me round in his buggy to the other area and found a nice pitch under the trees. He checked if we were happy before going on his way.
As previously mentioned, the ground here is solid and bent all our pegs. I went to reception and bought some rock pegs which soon solved that problem.
Whilst we pitched the tent, our two children went to play. My little girl enjoyed the play area and my son went round the site on his bike.
They had a outdoor pool but we didn't use it. It certainly looked warm though, nobody was seen shivering in there!
We didn't use the clubhouse as our two children tend to tire easily so they were in bed early but it looked like a clean and friendly place, from what I saw. There was a small games room, more geared up to the older children though.
There's a few essentials available to buy from reception, eg milk etc but we used the Asda in Swanley, which was about 15 minutes drive away.
We were due to be here for four nights but the weather was simply awful so we only managed two. Therefore, we didn't get to go on the woodland walks or really do much else. As this was our first time camping and we are not experienced yet, it was rather difficult trying to find something for the children to do in the appalling weather. There is only a certain amount of snap we can play!
Despite the weather, which is no fault of the camp-site, we had a good time, the site is clean, washrooms are being refurbished right now, the flowers around the site were pretty and I am not aware of hearing any noise at night.
The one time there was some noise is when some children started playing football near our tent about 8pm. However, the chap who runs the park moved the children onto a different place so the ball didn''t keep hitting our tent and car after that.
Overall, a nicely run site with friendly and helpful staff. I would go again. Oh, and just to add, when I told the, we were leaving two days early, they said they would give me a discount on our next stay with them, which was very kind as it was our choice to leave!

May Bank Holiday and typically a wet one so a little bit muddy in places, but had expected this considering the constant rain of April.
A friendly reception, we were asked to follow Ron around the site to find the best location for us and he found a spacious pitch for our trailer tent, apologising for the fact that the grass was a little long as he hadn't been able to cut it.
The new shower blocks are still not quite finished, showers were fully installed and in use but the toilets still to be fitted (just had to use the older toilets at the other end of the amenities block (no problem). The work done so far is of a very high standard and they will be great when finished.
The club house was warm and welcoming took part in family quiz on the Sunday night, good fun. The site itself is lovely and has a wooded area at the bottom, which was covered in bluebells. Play area and games room kept the kids happy.
For some reason there were no plugs in the washing up sinks, so make sure you take a bowl. Reception sells a few items but only a short drive into West Kingsdown for Co-op store & Newsagents.
We will return again

We have just come home today after 4days at Thiftwood with 2 other families. This was the first camping trip for all of us and we have only put up our tents once before this. The site is amazing, they were ultra helpful, put us in a perfect place, not too far from the facilities and right by the children's play area, which was great as between us we had 6 children. Mark met us in reception, gave us keys to the shower facilities and a electronic card for the gate, then Ron showed us to our pitches.
The site was clean and the showers in the mens and ladies shower block were lovely, they looked like they are in some posh spa! It was beautifully set and everyone was so friendly even to the point of lending me a mop and bucket to clean my tent of mud as the weather had been bad and my tent was a mess. Everyone was always happy to help us and have a chat, talk to the children or offer help with pitching the tents. There are lots of bins available for rubbish, which were always cleared regularly and the site was spotless. For a first trip for very novice campers it couldn't have been more successful and stress free.
As on previous reviews the ground is very hard but you can purchase rock pegs from reception (8 for £10) and they are perfect for the ground. All 3 families have had an absolutely amazing time and cant thank the Thriftwood family enough for their help in making that happen.

We have just returned from spending Easter weekend here. We have never received such a warm welcome from all the staff here.
The shower block is not quite finished, however, they are ultra modern and will be superb when finished.
During our stay we went to Knole Park and Eagle Heights. Both were great days out but Eagle Heights was amazing and excellent value for 2 adults, 2 children and an oap £36.50.
Getting back to the campsite we would definitely return but would need to take a satellite dish for the tv.

We stayed here 26/27/28th March. Family run camping, all very friendly and very helpful. I was told straight away the ladies showers weren't finished but I could make use of the disabled shower. I told them I would use the men's. Seeing we go to France at least twice a year, using 'shared' facilities was no problem for me. The showers there were perfect. Instant hot water. The whole building has been done in such good taste, It's right 'up-to-date'. Something people are beginning to expect when they go camping these days.
I have already told our son it would be a perfect place for him to camp with his three children. For the oldest, not too far from London, for the youngest, a good playing area. For all of them a swimming pool.
Again, we can't thank the owners enough for all the help & kindness they showed us. ( when we couldn't get a taxi to come early enough for us to catch a train into London, they had one of their 'men' to take us down to the station. A great big 'thanks' for that.
It's so lovely to sit at the site, with beautiful trees surrounding it. The squirrels running around. Such a difference from busy Rotterdam where we live. We have discovered a part of England we usually use to drive through to get to other destinations. We have missed so much, so this is the perfect camping to 'visit' Kent again. Keep up the good work folks.

Just returned from a 2 night 'Shakedown' stay at Thriftwood Holiday park. I chose this park having seen the website/previous reviews as we needed to find out how our new caravan works & it was the first outing for our 9 week old baby with his 2 older brothers.
The welcome was very friendly & professional & I was pointed in the best direction for us to pitch, this was followed by a visit by the owner to make sure we were happy. Because the site is open all but 4 weeks of the year they were still in the process of carrying out lots of improvement works, with the shower block being completely overhauled leaving 1 shower available for the whole site (I am sure this will be lovely once completed though). The hardstanding pitches all appeared to be new/recent.
The site has a small swimming pool & sun terrace along with a bar & I am sure this is all very popular in the summer.
The big negatives for us was that there were a lot of 'seasonal pitches' that spoiled the park as there were a large proportion of old caravans.
This was very close to home so great for a shakedown camp but I would not wish to visit again in a hurry, which is a shame based on how friendly the owners were & the potential of the park.

First time here on this lovely campsite, we stayed for 10 nights over Christmas and new year
Owners very helpful and friendly, plus other staff also helpful,
What a lovely area, and scenery
The campsite is really nice with good showers and toilets, very clean, the whole campsite has a nice feel to it
Although we had rain most off the time that we stayed there it didn't bother us, we still went to blue water shopping centre and travelled into London and went shopping
There is lots to do around the area and is great for walkers.
Nice little club house on site with lots of entertainment.
We will be back and can I say its a thank you to the owners and staff we had a fantastic Christmas and new year
A brilliant site recommend to any one.
