Lovely site which we chose for it's proximity to London, as there was a railway station very close by. Owners very helpful, especially the two sons, Mark and Sam. Nothing too much trouble.
Nice, small bar with occasional entertainment. Shop wasn't very well stocked, and what was there was quite expensive. Clean toilets / showers. Games room and play area for kids. Overall, enjoyable stay and would recommend.

Recently back from this site, after choosing it for its close proximity to where we live, did not want to go too far as new van that we wanted to try out.
Site has a nice location, quite near motorway but very quiet on site, grass and hard pitches as well as some statics, had quite a stretch for the electric, but leads were available if needed.
Staff friendly and helpful, even helped to site van for us.
Shop on site very basic and could maybe do with a bit of expansion.
Club was nice, had a nice evening, although club could do with a bit more decoration, curtains etc as was a bit like a hall with a mix of furniture, that said it was pleasant and comfortable.
Toilets and showers nice, showers especially hot and clean.
Play area was adequate, but woods at back of site should provide more than enough entertainment for any children.
Open fires were allowed in a proper burner which is nice for an evening relaxing.
Easy reach for Canterbury, Blue water and even London.
Hotel near by open to public and pub short distance from site as was a cafe, nearest large shop (Asda) about twenty mins.
For racing fans Brands hatch is down the road.
Will certainly visit again.

We visited over the Easter bank holiday weekend with a tent, the campsite was fairly busy mostly with caravans and people in the static vans.
We chose this campsite due to it's close proximity to Brands Hatch (we were in the area for the British Superbikes).
Very friendly welcome and felt secure in the campsite with the entry barriers etc.
I think this campsite is best suited to families as it has a club house and children's entertainment and was quite noisy late into the evening.
I got the feeling that the campsite was very much just 'opening' for the season despite being a year round site as it felt like they were fixing and doing things as they needed doing. The showers were hot on the Saturday morning, Sunday they were luke warm but Monday I was glad I had baby wipes as the water was absolutely freezing! The showers weren't filthy but they didn't seem like they'd been cleaned that often in the 3 days we were there.
I think perhaps if we were a family and looking for entertainment etc and came in high season (ie. Summer holidays) this would be a great place to go but it wasn't for us at this time. It's also quite pricey compared to other much nicer places we have stayed in recently.
Another note- the pub at the top of the road is no longer a pub and just a restaurant. The nearest pub was about a 20 minute walk away into Stansted Village.

Fantastic site, would definitely use again. We had our three dogs with us who loved chasing around in the woods which left them ready for a rest while we attended an event at Brands Hatch (5 mins away). The new owners are very friendly and helpful.
Its hard to believe you are so close to London it is such a peaceful setting.
The site hold various entertainment throughout the year and the club house looked very inviting, sadly exhaustion got the better of us and we did not venture in. There separate games rooms with snooker/pool table and my personal favourite an air hockey table. The swimming pool would be a lovely suntrap at the right time of year all beautifully secluded. Even the animals on the site welcomed us, we were met by a beautiful black cat and a pair of ducks.
Entry cards are needed for the site which makes it nice and safe.
Thank you to everyone there who made us feel very welcome, hope to see you all soon.

What a lovely place. In June 09 my wife and I purchased an old motorhome. Not having done any camping or touring before, I joined the Camping and Caravanning Club to scour the sites in their book. We were due to have a fortnights holiday in August so I went ahead and booked up 3 sites on the south coast. I kept reading different camping and motorhome magazines and I started to worry what do I do when I arrive (electric hook up,gas, leisure battery, chemical waste and uneven pitches).
It all seemed a bit complicated so I thought how about a test run closer to home for a weekend. Living in Sidcup, Thriftwood was only a 20 min drive on the A20. I couldn't believe my eyes when we turned off the lane and into the site. The first thing I saw was a pheasant on the lawn in front of the pond. We then got to the reception and were greeted by Natalie a nice girl behind the desk. She found Mark (one of the brothers who until you get to know them do look alike as a previous review states). He duly showed us to our pitch plugged us in and explained what to do with the Thetford and such like. He even provided levellers for us and levelled the motorhome.
We had a great weekend with some nice weather. We sat outside the motorhome saying hello to the people passing by either walking their dogs or going to have a shower or use the heated pool. Everyone was so friendly that my wife fell in love with the place (that's half the battle).
We then had our fortnights holiday on the south coast which was very nice but couldn't wait to get back for another weekend at Thriftwood. It soon came around and this time we noticed that they had a touring caravan for sale. We were so excited that we done a deal the next weekend and are now on our new pitch. The wife is delighted with our second home so much so that we have visited the site every weekend since we've had the caravan (rain and snow). We look forward to having a couple of drinks in the evenings at the clubhouse which usually turn out to be great fun with Quizes, Karaoke and Tribute singers.

I also visited this site in September and October 09 and have to say its one of the friendliest sites I have come across. The relatively new owners bend over backwards to help, they even opened the swimming pool especially for us in the summer.
The showers/toilets are really warm and with loads of free hot water and not one of those annoying push on taps, also for their age extremely clean. I understand that these facilities are being re vamped shortly.
There are a number of different type pitches, on this site with serviced water on some.
I didn't purchase anything in the shop so I can't comment on the prices but the kids enjoyed the games room (not overly dear - unlike some sites). Very friendly bar with not a lot of entertainment but when there is - what a laugh - a must go to night.
Kids absolutely love the wooded area - not too big to get scared but great for den building with the odd tree swing round and about for that extra bit of fun in fact only see them when the're hungry. There is of course the normal kids playground as well.
All in all I would recommend this site for short or long stay -there's permanent pitches as well as statics which also gives the feeling of security.
My family are looking forward to revisiting over the Easter hols providing there's some space left as I can see this site becoming very popular very quickly as the owners are constantly improving it and there are some lovely walks and days out round and about.

I had to leave this review as this is by far the best campsite in the UK. We booked to go on the campsite to stay for 5 days in August 2009 as I have 2 kids I was attracted by the fact they have a heated outdoor pool I must say the pool is so warm it is fantastic the games room and play area are also a great attraction for kids.
When we arrived we were greeted by one of the brothers (Mark) if you go here you will see what I mean by the brothers they look so alike. I was then booked on and taken to my pitch my first impression was WOW! the campsite is so well kept I just did not think it could get better but it did.
Free showers plenty of hot water the staff are happy to help with any thing. Fully stocked shop good too as I forgot my toothbrush I can't describe in words how wonderful this place is I have booked expensive holidays abroad and I had a much better time here so relaxing I would recommend any one to go.
We wished our stay was longer and are considering one of there yearly pitches we definitely will be going back as the kids are still talking about Thriftwood.
5 Star campsite 5 star staff only bad point I live too far to go every weekend.

Just came back from two night stay. This was a busy, popular site although we had no problems booking in the day before we arrived. Definitely good points and bad points though as follows:
Good points
Clean, well appointed pitches, with plenty of water and electricity hook ups.
Toilets and showers were clean and had hot water free of charge.
The swimming pool was beautifully clean and warm although we didn't use it.
Dog bins and rubbish bins provided.
Washing up area clean with lots of hot water
Security excellent with barrier to get in and out and secure fencing all round.
Children's park clean and in good condition but small
Lots of surrounding country walks as well close to woody area to walk dogs
Bad points
New owners rather nonchalant and disorganised. When one asked the other to show us to our pitch he just gave us verbal instructions, obviously wasn't going to show us then!
Very hard pitch, like concrete, struggled to get pegs and dog hook ups in the ground.
Bin wasn't emptied once whilst we were there and was really smelly
Cost was reasonable but so many 'addon' charges made it expensive. The charge of £18 (low season) was only for one tent and two adults. I went with my two daughters both over 12 (which means they classed as adults!) so got charged additional £5 a night for my other daughter, then £1 for the dog each night. My friend's daughter who was joining us later in evening was not allowed to park her car with us (even though she was fully paid for) and had to leave car outside at £2.50 per night.
Shop was pricy - 2 small vitamin drinks and 2 chocolate bars came to £5.30. When I asked how much the drinks were the girl behind the desk had to phone some one up to ask, she said she didn't know the prices they were always changing!
On checkout at 12 o'clock (as requested by owners) reception was closed. A note asked us to walk to the owner's lodge or ring two numbers. We tried the lodge first, no answer, rang one of the numbers and one of the brothers answered and told us to ring the other number. Rang the other number and the same brother answered (!?!) and said he was on his way. Arrived huffing and puffing. When we suggested that some one ought to be in reception at 12 as this was their official check out time he looked a bit put out and said 'well I was down in the compound!'.
Overall - lovely site but administration and pricing could do with some sorting out! would probably go again as nearby and clean.

Mark gave us a lovely welcome.
Site is well positioned within Kent, and quite cheap to access London, we used Borough Green, 2x adults & 1x child = £28.
No need for 20p coins as water is free in the showers, but the shower heads don't have power shower efficiency. 10p coin for the hairdryer. At times toilets were unclean, both mens & womens. Pool was often closed during the day, included a water shortage due to the stop cock being turned off. No reason given.
The owners are new to the site, and the brothers always ask how you are and appear interested in the clientele.
They obviously do have work to do to bring this site up to scratch, shower cubicle doors would make the bather feel secure rather than the flimsy curtains. Tiled floor areas could be cleaner
Bar drinks were expensive. Play park needed repairs but bear in mind the guys have only just taken over.
Security felt good and we had to access an electronic barrier with retractable posts.
We visited the Green Man pub in nearby Longfield, had a lovely meal.
But even better, turn left out onto the A20 and visit The Moat bar/restaurant. We had a mixture of cheese, chutney etc and it was wonderful and made a nice change. Only wish we had found it earlier. Lots of ironic words on the wall, it pulls yo in to have a wander. Wish I was short enough to sit in the inglenook fireplace. The staff at The Moat were brilliant and even when I asked for extra bread, it came with no charge. Fabulous place. Even when there is roadworks outside, get your family in.

Had a great holiday at this campsite. The campsite was very family friendly and welcoming. The playground and games room were great for the kids. The washing facilities were ok and kept clean and tidy. The shop had all the basics. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
There is a great bistro at the garden centre about 1/2 mile from the campsite.
Would definitely go back.
