We had a very pleasant weekend at Wyeside. I phoned beforehand to see when reception shut as you don't pay until you get there. The warden was very helpful and assured me he would be there until 10. We had a pitch in the side of the site just past the statics. The pitch was lovely just next to the river but not very large. There wasn't really any space for the kids to run around. There was plenty of space on the other field though. The site was quiet but this was our first time in a motorhome so I guess it is much quieter than a tent.
We cycled to the Elan valley on Saturday along the disused railway - NB not flat! We went swimming on Sunday morning and it was much cheaper than at home.

Would we go back????? not sure. We had a bad stop, but a few people said this was unusual. Here is our review.
Stayed here for the bank holiday weekend to avoid traffic and busy places as best as possible on a bankholiday. Great place geographically. Great not needing to commit to booking and just turn up.
The toilets blocks and washing facilities were fine, but definitely lacked a baby changing facility which would make an improvement.
We found the WYESIDE website slightly misleading advertising the putting, tennis and bowling. It is adjacent to the campsite as it says on the website, but to use the facilities you need to drive to the local leisure centre to get keys to use the facilities - which makes it a pain.
The River looked fantastic, but our child was put off going in after a group of men pitched up camp right next to us, and proceeded to drink from lunchtime till late, making it quite intimidating. This definitely detracted from the family atmosphere and ruined our weekend. There was little respect for others and shouting could be heard from the group upto 200m away! However they did quieten down (a little) after a complaint. But the campsite was still rather loud in the evenings generally.
Many other campers offered sympathy to us having the neighbours from hell.
Verdict: Liked the area, but would probably look for another campsite if we stayed in the area again.

Great site this one. Top marks go to very clean toilet and shower blocks which are regularly cleaned throughout the day. Lots of hot water too, which is particularly welcome.
The site is well organised and free of litter - refuse is collected from the disposal points daily. It makes a lovely place to stay whether you rent one of the static caravans or turn up with your own caravan or tent. You need to book in advance for an EHU however.
Rhayader is a lovely little town with plenty of pubs and restaurants - particularly the Indian which is exceptional (award winning cuisine).
Back to the site - the river that runs alongside it is very pretty, but please please PLEASE keep small children away from it as it can swell very quickly and become very fast moving.
On the whole it's a very quiet site, yes there is a little road noise but compared to where I live in London I barely noticed it!
The surrounding countryside is stunning. Absolutely beautiful. Do yourself a favour and take the mountain road to Aberystwyth - but mind out for the sheep!
Our visit was only marred by the ignorant, common, ill-mannered, rude and belligerent tribe of Brummies (I was born in Birmingham so can say that) who descended en-masse on our last night and decided to pitch up right next to us. Let's put it this way, if they'd been any closer their guy ropes would have been in our tent - despite having the whole park to choose a pitch from.
Anyway, that's not the park's fault, we would stay there again definitely - despite the weather, but then you don't go to Wales for the sunshine!

Amazing site. Under £20 per night for a level hardstanding pitch with a large patch of grass either side. Very clean and well kept site. Toilets and shower block were spotless. You can walk through the camping field and park up into the town where there are a few nice village pubs. The kids loved playing in the park and in the clean river although you should take care as it is deep in places. Well worth a visit

All the reviews about the positive points about the site are spot on. Great location, excellent toilet and shower blocks which were kept very clean. Unfortunately the negative reviews were also spot on. This site works well for people just dropping in for a quick or first time visit.
Because pitches are not allocated or managed it soon becomes a free for all and we were very soon surrounded by what can only be described as Argos campers. The site rules are clear about noise limits and curfew but sadly not enforced until its too late.
People new to camping need guidance as to the proper way to behave on sites like this, not left to spoil everyone else's weekend. A little bit of rule enforcement would bring this site back to the quality levels it deserves. Then I would gladly recommend it.

I think most of the other reviews are quite accurate.
This is a lovely site, with clean toilets and showers. Good facilities and is in a very pleasant location.
It has to be said though, on the downside, comments made about the noise levels are also true. On the sheet given to us on entry it stated noise levels to be kept to a minimum after 11.30. No loud music and no generators. All of the above occurred during our stay.
Also, although I like the less restrictive 'camp where you like' type campsites, I did think that people were very much on top of each other on this site. Possibly this was because we stayed over a bank holiday. I'm not sure.
All that said, the site had friendly and helpful staff. It is a lovely location and I suppose you have to accept some noise on campsites.

We passed through here on Cycle Route 8 and stayed a night. The owners were friendly and helpful. We came at the end of the August Bank Holiday and there weren't as many people as I'd expect probably due to the wet weather. The showers were modern, warm and clean and the laundry room and dryer were good to wash our bike clothes.
The actual site was mostly flat next to the river. The owners recommended us a pub to go to which was 5 mins walk from the site and did some nice enough food.
Overall, it was good, nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about (probably due to the weather!).

Unfortunately, my review of this site is not as good as others I have read. The pitch we were given was actually picturesque as it over looked the river but I did have trouble getting any way near level, it also had TV hook up but I still could not get a signal. The site itself backs onto the A470 so road noise is evident. The toilet block was close to our pitch and do find music / radios in toilets a nice touch, however we arrived at 2pm on a Friday afternoon and it was clear the toilet had not been cleaned that day. The service from the warden was very cold, as if he really didn’t want to be there. You can walk into town from the site where you can find some nice cafes and pubs etc. There is also a great little supermarket down a back lane that was a nice find! On the whole this site was not for us, so much so we upped and left early.

This is a lovely site,by the river, but watch small children, it has a little park for children and a nice bowling green, your very convenient to rhyader,we walked there in minutes. Rhyader is a nice little town with nice shops and Pubs with good food, we stayed 1 night we would have liked to stay longer, but we found it quite expensive, for late sept, but saying that we would stay there again.

Great campsite. Friendly staff.
Clean toilet/shower block and washing-up area. Continuous hot water. (Electric showers- remember to pull cord outside cubicle, not like my husband who came back to the tent on our first morning complaining showers were cold!). Hairdryer. Laundry room & freezer. Reception will charge phones etc for 50p each.
Good location next to football field and park. Easy walk into town for shops, pubs etc. Several pubs do food.
You need to book for EHUs (didn't seem to be many pitches). Bookings not taken for non powered pitches - just turn up and keep fingers crossed.
