Have just returned from a weekend break at Cairnsmill with our tourer. I must say this is one of the best sites we have ever been on. The facilities on this site are excellent, having been upgraded since our last visit the pool/sauna etc (did not use this time) but had a look round the and very nice. The bar/club & games room have also been upgraded and we did use the club even had a win at the bingo which was on, on the Friday & Sunday nights with music entertainment on the Saturday night which was very enjoyable.
Only gripe I have is that I wish the pitches were fully serviced (to attach hose direct to water outlet) as we are geared up for using these, but the shower areas were kept clean & tidy so really no complaints there, hence reason for 9/10 for facilities or that would also have been 10/10.
Thanks for a lovely stay and we will certainly be back.

Oh dear.
We travelled from Arisaig to this site expecting great things.
What a nightmare.
When checking in the staff gave us no information on the site or area. They simply handed over a site map took our money and that was that.
After we found our pitch we were glad we hadn't booked in for any longer than 1 night. The view was of static caravans and the back of the toilet block.
We were so disappointed that we spent the evening looking for nearby sites to move to.
In the morning we tried to have a shower at 10am and were told that they were closed for cleaning. When I asked when they would reopen I was told ' when the floor dries'
We were glad to leave.

Telephoned a few days before to book a pitch for three nights while the Dunhill Cup was on in the area. Lady receptionist was extremely efficient and very friendly. Arrived to book in and the same lady remembered everything about our booking and again made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely large hard standing pitch with fabulous views towards the hills.
Toilet and shower blocks spotless and warm. Free wifi which is most unusual but was very handy. We tow a scooter and had a very enjoyable time visiting the golf course and beach at kingsbarns only seven miles up the road. St. Andrews is a fantastic place for shopping, sightseeing and of course the beaches and golf.
The site has a lovely new swimming pool with jacuzzi and sauna which looked really nice. The staff and the manager were the friendliest we have come across during all our travels. We are due to return to St. Andrews in November and although the site is only open all year to statics, the receptionist advised that if we phone a day or two ahead of any visit outwith the normal season then we can have a pitch with electric and of course shower facilities will be available. This is great because there are not many sites open all year in this area.
We will definitely return in November and more often in the future. A real Scottish gem. Many thanks.

We booked a Weekend at Cairnsmill over the telephone. The booking procedure was very thorough and detailed this was followed by a posted confirmation with a comprehensive booking form to fill in and return to the site. PS the letter sent by Cairnsmill had no postage and I had to pay £1.50 to get the letter, which Cairnsmill kindly refunded on arrival.
The staff at reception were welcoming and friendly and we were allocated our pitch which was near the very busy road. There was quite a bit of traffic noise till late evening and from early morning. The site however was very nice in an elevated position above St Andrews with good views all round. The facilities excellent with a bar, which I looked at but did not use. A very impressive swimming pool with Spa, which my children and I used and enjoyed. There was also a good sized games room with coin operated machines. There were I think 3 small play areas, which were popular with young children.
The toilets were clean but I had to queue on Saturday morning for a shower as there were only 2 shower cubicles in each block, which was inadequate for the amount of tourers on site. The showers in toilet block A, nearest reception were dated and with nowhere to put your clothes as there were no shower curtain and 1 hook. There was a well stocked shop on site which opened early, with friendly staff.
A small gate at the north end of the site takes you out to the road for a 20 minute walk into the centre of beautiful St Andrews with much to see and do. There is a Morrisons Supermarket 5 minutes away with a Cafe and Pharmacy also an ALDI a short distance further. The site fees were a bit on the expensive side. But on the whole a nice site and I would return. Please upgrade the toilet block A, with more showers.

Just left this site after a 4 night stay. The tent area is on quite a slope and the stuff in our tent gradually started sliding down to one side. It rained quite a lot when we were there and the grass was really wet and sloshy. When arriving we were allocated a pitch which has a fence either side which can make it a bitty awkward for putting up your tent. EHU available for all pitches.
Toilet block was okay. I felt it could have been cleaner. We went for a look at the caravan area and The toilet block for caravans was much cleaner and looked nicer than the ones for tents which if I'm honest annoyed me slightly as tents have no option but to use these facilities. Showers for tents were separate from toilets and had shelves for putting your stuff on and a sink. It's a push button system which lasts for around 20 seconds.
Washing machine and tumble dryer are token only and cost £2 a token. Can be confusing to use!
Dish washing facilities is indoor which is good if it's raining. They were clean and tidy and plenty hot water. Taps were push ones so you had keep pushing to fill your basin.
Swimming pool and jacuzzi were great (and free!). We were £20 p/n for two adults. If you wish to use the sauna it has to be booked in advance of your visit to the pool as it takes around an hour to heat up. The sauna costs £2 p/h.
Morrisons just a 2 minute drive down the road.
Nice site situated in a nice area.

Just back from a one night trip ( to make sure my 5 year old enjoyed camping before we start taking him on longer trips)
Found the facility's were all clean and well laid out like previous comments. The showers were a bit of a pain as they are push buttons which lasted about 10 secs
Swimming pool and games room were great and bar was cheap enough
Did find the pitch was a bit pricey £18 for a small tent

The site was good on the whole, toilets clean and the pool was a bonus BUT because of the pitches being gravel we could not put up our awning! Although we had metal pegs we could not get them into the ground. This was very irritating as after seeing a review on this site re rock pegs I phoned the site and was assured metal pegs were completely fine. On looking around the site everyone who had an awning had rock pegs. So our 2 days/nights were spent without our awning which with 2 adults and 2 teenagers in a 4 berth caravan is a much needed addition to our holiday. We were originally going to book 4 nights but I'm glad with the awning situation we only booked 2.
The site is in a very good location - near to a Morrisons and the town centre but it is just off a busy main road (A915) and if you are given a pitch near the road (as we were) it is a bit noisy. Ask for one further in if traffic noise bothers you.
The site is neat, tidy and well kept and the pitches are a good size.

Just returned from Cairnsmill and had a lovely weekend. On arrival staff were very helpful and friendly. Our pitch was large with plenty space for awning and car.
Toilets and showers were spotless clean at all times of the day. No shower curtains in site, lovely large cubicles with shower screen and benches and pegs for your clothes. The only negative was the push button showers that seemed to last about 5 seconds at a time.
The kids had a great time playing in the parks, and the swimming pool complex was great, especially in wet weather. Towels are provided at the pool which is a bonus. The bar area looked nice and there was entertainment on over the weekend. We didn't use the the bar so can't comment on prices.
There is a small shop which seemed to stock all the essentials. Overall a lovely site and will return again.

Excellent site. Large hard standing pitches with water and drainage on every bollard. These are shared so you cant hook up water and drainage. You will need decent rock pegs for awnings on the hard standings. There are even picnic benches to use. The grounds are very well kept and the site staff are really friendly. There are four small swing parks for children and my daughter spent most of her time cycling between them with friends she had made.
The swimming pool is great and has a jacuzzi, sauna and a separate toddler pool. There is a bar area and games room for children. They have entertainment at weekends. The site also has Wifi which was free when we stayed.
There are statics on site but these are privately owned and well maintained. We didn't see large groups or rowdy families that we have encountered on other sites. There is a small tent area that is on a bit of a slope and looks like it would be suited to smaller tents.
There are four toilet blocks which were always extremely clean and warm. The one nearest us had large shower cubicles so you could actually get showered without soaking your clothes and have plenty of space to get changed. There is full recycling and laundry facilities.
Morrisons is a five minute walk and you can walk into St Andrews in half an hour. There is also an Aldi just past Morrisons.
We paid £28 a night in the Easter Holidays and although the site was full it never felt busy. When you consider a Caravan Club site would have been £25 a night without a swimming pool, bar, swing parks or Wifi then I think think it is well worth the extra £3. We will come back here.
The site does not have a direction sign on the road on approach and could be missed. We came to it from the A91 into St Andrews and then turned along the A915 Kircaldy Road which takes you up past Morrisons. The site is up the hill on the right hand side after a third of a mile.

Just back from spending 5 great nights at this site. The new swimming pool has been opened and is fantastic, our 2 kids spent most of the holiday in it.
Pool is open from 10am-10pm at night. We never used the bar but there is a games room with pool table etc.
Pitch we were on was a hard standing, drained really well, hard to get awning pegs to stick in so would recommend threaded rock pegs.
Toilet/Shower facilities were great, probably the best we have encountered on our travels.
Site a bit more expensive than we would normally pay at £30 a night but facilities and pool are well worth it due to Scottish weather!
There is a large Morrisons Supermarket within walking distance. St Andrews is a lovely town and the coastline is also worth a drive round.
Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this site.
