We visited Haggerston Castle for 5 nights starting on April the 8th April. My mum and dad met us in their motorhome and were to camp for 3 nights. They lasted one,and decamped to nearest club site. We felt we had to stick it out for the kids.
My gripe was the toilets and showers. I have never seen such toilets at a campsite in 12 years of camping. They had done some refurbishment over the winter season, which seemed to have involved putting in showers that sprayed water out horizontally rather than vertically. They had no shower curtain, seat or hooks so the moment you put the shower on everything got wet. I could have forgiven this, but every time I tried to have a shower they were cold. There was a sign saying that due to high demand it took about 5 mins to heat up. Nonsense - it didn't heat up at all! The toilets were even worse. They were slightly better for about 5 mins every 48 hours, when they were cleaned. There was rarely any toilet roll, and numerous toilets that you just couldn't go in. When I complained I was told that the problem was that they had a male and female cleaner, and therefore only on the day the correct sex cleaner was in could the toilets be cleaned. After we complained it got slightly better for a day, then by the end of 5 days it was worse than ever.
The sad thing is, that the actual swimming pool, changing room and showers were the best I have ever come across. The building, restaurants and bar were pleasant ( in a kid friendly way), although yet again the toilets in the complex were very poor - again no toilet roll in most cubicles and toilets that looked like they had never seen a brush. If only they could apply the high standards of the pool to the toilets and touring facilities.
The area is lovely, and we especially enjoyed an afternoon out to the Honey farm up near Coldstream. Also had great meal at the Lindesfarne inn, which you can walk to from the site. In summary, it is probably fine if you are in a mobile home, but I wouldn't go there if you are touring.

Just got back from this site. I was a little disappointed with the touring area, many of the service pitches have no drains (they are doing away with them )they were small and close together. The dog walk has gone to make way for a new static van area.
There has been a lot of reburbishment in the entertainments area which is beautiful and there's plenty of things to keep the kids amused. Very well stocked Spar on site.
As said, although we were disappointed with touring area, it did not spoil our week. There's so much to see like visiting Holy Island, Farne Islands (this is a must ) Barnburgh Castle ect and would do it again.

We stayed here for a couple of days with two kids. The price of staying here was very reasonable there is plenty to do on the site.
The hard standing pitches were quite small and the surrounding areas extremely wet which I think is due to poor / no drainage and could be improved especially as the location caters for families / kids.
Toilets and showers very clean with plenty of hot water.

Just got back from a week here. We were on a super pitch against the dog walk. Our pitch was plenty big enough for the caravan and awning with the car at the front.
Some of the basic pitches did look very close together and cramped, But we always stay on super pitches at a Haven park to get a decent sized one. Didnt use the toilets as we use our own so cannot comment on them.
The site itself is really lovely the entertainment is good most nights, although it was very busy. There is a chinese restaurant on site which does a buffet this was very good and lots of choice. In the area there is Conundrum Farm about 5 miles away, more suited to younger children.
A good day out with different aged kids was a trip to East Links Family park at Dunbar. Pay one fee to go in but there was plenty to do all day and lots of picnic benches to take your own lunch. Some good little beach coves in the area too.
We will visit this site again maybe next year, but would recommend anyone booking to book a super pitch if you don't want to be too cramped.

This was our second visit of the year I find the touring area so much quieter midweek than weekends which is often busy and noisy pitches are close together.
There is a code for door at toilet block but sadly they are often left open they are cleaned once a day, when busy this isn't enough
Husband and myself often use this as a base to explore surrounding area which is lovely and haven do very reasonable deals especially midweek

Was at haggerston for the first week in July and I think it was the worst site I have ever visited. When I arrived the reception on the touring site was closed but it had a list of names with allocated pitches on the windows with 2 days allocations, then you had to back up to the main building to get the welcome pack with toilet codes.
The pitches were far too small with my van and awning there was around 10 ' of space between my car and the van next to me. They were cutting trees down the whole week in the middle of the site and kids were throwing the branches through the toilet skylights.
The toilets were filthy and dated and were occasionally blocked. Pitches very uneven and large type chippings cover the awning area. We had a dog and obeyed the dog rules but other owners didn't one owner a few pitches up thought it would be a great idea to throw their dogs ball up and down the grass area behind the pitches which drove the other dogs mad.
The opinion I got was that Haven had found this area and decided to put tourers in it and forget about them, would be nice to have the kind of standards the static areas had. The entertainment was ok but not the usual haven standard but the entertainment is certainly aimed at getting your money. Would not return to this site.

Visited this site for the weekend, staying for three nights. Facilities in the touring area were good, two Toilet / Shower blocks which were clean and never too busy. Use of site facilities were limited due to my broken ankle, but would have been plentiful if I was more mobile. Able to use disabled toilet facilities if needed.
Yes as previously said hardstanding pitches are quite close together but in a Motorhome this is not a problem. Our pitch was on the outer edge of the touring area with electric, hardstanding and awning space, we also had a patch of grass on which I spent the weekend parked in a chair catching the sun and watching the world go by.
A very enjoyable and relaxing visit and we will go back once I am more mobile.

We have just returned from a four night break that turned into a three night. The price for the four nights for four adults, electricity and awning was very good £60. Booking in was quick and efficient we arrived on thursday the 24th
We were at the rear of the booking in office, and the toilet block at this side of the site was ok but not brilliant old and dated, 4 wc's and 4 shower cubicles they were never busy and never had to wait for a shower.
25 hours after arriving the toilet block had not been cleaned. Every one of the wc's were in a disgusting state both ladies and gents. I wont describe what was there I'll leave that to your imagination.
I phone reception to complain and was told, 'we will inform housekeeping' another two hours passed and still no sign of them being cleaned. We eventually had to go to reception and complain and to be fair there were cleaned within the hour.
As this is a very busy family site I would have thought these should be cleaned at least twice per day as it was a health hazard to young children.
I would say the site itself is very poor for a five star holiday camp, the pitches are very small, as usual i parked the car in front of our awning leaving the other side of the van free for out neighbours awning. Then after three days of the car not moving the warden had a walk around on the sunday and asks me to move my car as it is parked in the wrong place! 'We park differently to other sites as the pitches are so close to each other'
Why after three days does she decide to have a walk around and ask us to move the car, she knew we were leaving the next day.
This could be a great site for tourers if as lisem76 said bulldoze the park and lay some decent turf, make the pitches larger but fewer, and get rid of all of the tree stumps at the bottom part of the site. Replace the toilets and clean more regularly.
Entertainment there is absolutely stacks to do, kids will never be bored but have plenty of cash as everything is geared to take your money.
Great for families with kids.
Would we return? Never in a million years.

I stayed on this great site for 4 days and it only cost us £53 which £24 of that was for 2 dogs, passes was included.
The touring area was very good, good showers and other parts were just the same.
The park has changed a bit since we were there in 2001 but now as in most parks if you have kids its money money money,as the swimming pool and the park was the only thing that was free.
The staff were helpful and the park is clean and tidy.
There is a boating lake, amusements and plenty of fast food places, pony rides and a small park called fun quest, all which have to be paid for so take plenty of money.

Just back from a long weekend at Haggerston and felt I needed to try and redress the balance of reviews for this site. It was our 1st ever venture out in our motorhome and we were very pleased with the facilities the site had to offer. Our pitch was £50.00 for 3 nights.
Good clean toilet and washing facilities beside the tourer area. Loads for the kids to do, a good grassy area by our pitch for children to mix and play. Staff very friendly and helpful. Swimming pool immaculate (lovely hot showers). Yes it was very busy and no I wouldn't want to go every weekend, but once or twice a year definitely. The kids loved it.
