Just coming to an end of a 9 day stay at this site, site is so easy to find being located on the A1 junction signed Cromwell & Doll museum.
A very warm welcome from the site wardens easy & quick check-in etc, pick your own pitch, most pitches are level hardstandings and of ample size, with some grass pitches available. Make sure you have hardstanding awning pegs as the ground is rock hard.
Fishing on site, I found it a hard water to crack, took me 3 days to catch anything consistently fish in the lily pads to produce fish which are Carp, mirrors, commons, crutian, Tench, Roach & Rudd
Weighed a Mirror for a young lad last night at 17.8 lbs, I've had loads of tench to over 5lbs. All fishing pegs are disabled accessed being made from timber decking and level, path from site to pond is level too, so wheelchairs would NOT be any problem. Large private day ticket carp lake adjacent to site stating it holds carp in the 40lb bracket
Toilets and showers always clean and well maintained, as some have said they could with more loo's etc but we never had to queue and the site is packed. Mobile fish and chip van on site every Friday night, icecream van calls twice a day too.
Dogs welcome and there is an ample on site dog walking area, with good dog walking off site too.
Lastly don't let the sites location put you off, the A1 is screened off by a high soil embankment, and in all honesty you don't notice the traffic noise

Lovely caravan site, very well maintained. We were lucky enough to get a pitch overlooking a small pond. Toilets were clean, perhaps could have done with a couple extra showers but everywhere was clean.
Brilliant dog walk on site around the fishing lake. Fishing available, otherwise no other facilities. Local shop approx 5 min walk away. No village pub.
Would recommend the Muskham Ferry for food, they allow you in with a dog too - Menu isn't up to much but the food was excellent.
A1 is very close and so there is the obvious noise that comes with this, but it wasn't too bad. Would recommend.

This was the first site we used with our caravan, it was just for one night, basically a see what plugs in where exercise.
We arrived about lunch time. The check in was simple, after paying and being told where the toilets etc were we were told to pick our spot. All the pitches were hard standing and separated by hedges. The site was beautifully laid out with 3 or 4 toilet/shower blocks, a fishing lake and a nice dog walk.
The toilet blocks were spotlessly clean and heated as well.
The site is right by the A1 but there was no significant traffic noise due to a large banking absorbing the sound.
The site owners were very helpful even giving us a piece of drain hose which for some reason we didn't have, also telling us where the nearest pubs serving food were. The nearest being a couple of miles away.We went to the Muskham ferry which was the next junction down the A1 and the food was really nice.
There was only a small shop just outside the site but it sold all the basics you may need, nothing much else really in the village.
If you need a stopover on the long drive south this site is ideal

We stayed here for one night during the big freeze and arrived in freezing fog conditions, had already booked online so the process was a friendly formality, Cost was £14.60 with E H U.
We picked a pitch not too far away from the facilities but had a nice open view over fields, there are bird feeders at various places on site and there was also plenty of rabbits wandering around so it was nice to see some wildlife in such adverse conditions. As mentioned elsewhere is the dog walk, which our two dogs loved and we liked to walk around the pond which was frozen over (as was the large carp lake in the next field), the dog walk rises up the bank that is formed to create a shield for the busy A1 traffic noise.
I did not find the noise intrusive, in fact I thought it was pretty quiet considering the location.
The facilities were ok (could get busy in summer!) and the ladies block was being redecorated at the time.
We walked around the local village which does not have much to offer but then it is a remote kind of site.
We would use the site again for an odd nights stay on a tour, it's just lacking a pub to walk to and a decent shop nearby to stay any longer.

Stayed at this site recently, for the first time, and found it to be a very pleasant site. To add to other reviews given here, our pitch was plenty big enough, but we did not put the awning up. Some pitches are definitely larger than others, but none seemed overly small. We pitched nearer to the entrance than the lake, so were sufficiently distant from the A1 for that not to be a noise issue, but I agree with other reviews that you can’t be surprised to hear road noise if you choose a site next to a busy road! We could however, hear the busy railway line from where we were pitched. We always use Google maps before we go to a site so we are aware of what to expect. Using either the aerial view or (if available) streetmap view, gives you a pretty good idea of what is nearby!
The toilet/shower blocks were very small, and, as our son found out, it’s not easy to hold the shower button down with one hand (to keep the water flow going) and then try and wash your hair with the other! He was also plunged into darkness after the movement sensor for the main lights decided there was no-one in the block! However, most vans, including ours, have very well equipped shower rooms these days, so it should not put people off from using this site – just plan to use your own facilities instead!.
One thing I would say is beware if you use the local farm shop in Cromwell. It may well be very handy but the “age” of the produce was definitely suspect. The veg looked very tired and some was definitely going off, so we decided not to buy any of that. However, we did buy some Lincolnshire Plum Loaf and were very disappointed indeed to find it was 10 days beyond its date code! Sadly we didn’t discover this until we got back home. Will give that shop a miss next time we stay at the site.

Stayed at the site at the end of October 2010 in a tourer and can’t fault the place. From the outset we were met by friendly staff at the reception who explained the layout of the site etc.
I must say that from other reviews we were a bit sceptical of this site due to comments of A1 noise and small pitches.
Firstly the A1. You are staying at a campsite next to the A1, surely it can’t come as a surprise that you hear some road noise, can it? The site has a big earth mound around the side bordering the A1 which does a good job of cutting out noise, but if you want an absolutely beautiful pitch which overlooks the sites fantastic fishing lake then this must be a small price to pay. Pitches towards the entrance will be quieter.
Secondly the pitch size. I don’t know if they have been changed very recently but I can say that our pitch (50) was enormous. We had car, caravan, awning and space for a visitor car at the side with room to spare. We had a look around the site and didn’t see a small pitch.
There is a nice leisurely walk around the site itself which takes in the mound overlooking the A1, I would recommend this especially if you are out exercising the dogs. At the top they have put a few benches so you can sit and watch the world go by.
TV reception was great, we had a full digital reception on the van Ariel but some did put TV Ariel’s up. Phone reception was also great on the O2 network with full reception and good 3G.
Toilet blocks were neat and tidy and yes they did only have two showers but we didn’t have to wait but the site wasn’t full so maybe that was why.
This is a lovely site and the owners do well to make it appeal such as the numerous styled benches and lovely hut near the fishing lake, this itself is really nice made from reclaimed materials.
Please be aware of the lakes if you have youngsters.
If you are an angler this is the site for you with its lake, we are not anglers but really enjoyed the lakes and atmosphere of the place.
Close to Clumber park also and plenty of National trust properties about also.
Now we have found this site we will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending the site.

The site is clean and well kept but we were disappointed with our stay there. We were sited just behind the A1 and the noise kept us awake at night. The toilet block was clean but only had two showers which may be a problem at busy times. This site is not suitable for young children. We had our grandchildren with us aged 6 and 3 and were made to feel uncomfortable when they were playing on the grass directly in front of our caravan. The caravan and awning were on a hard standing and we personally would have preferred the awning to be on grass.

I had been to this site before, so I knew them and asked them to store my caravan which they did, for a few weeks - fairly pricy, but the van was kept under lock and key. When I came back the warden made some remark on account of my van being old, so they put me in a quiet corner (out of sight!) which suited me just fine. The site is useful for me as I am in Newark frequently, but I prefer it outside the season when it's less busy.
Facilities are good, but not enough toilets and showers for busy times. Washing machine is a plus. The nice village (Norwell) is 2 miles away with a nice village shop, although there is a village shop also near the site (100 yards), in the village of Cromwell.Shopping also possible at the petrol station off the A1 which is in walking distance. I don't chose sites for child-friendliness, but I don't think there is a playground, or much space for children to roam.
Norwell has a very nice put (Plough) with excellent food, very friendly, family run.
A river-side pub with garden is in North Muskham, one exit south of Cromwell/Norwell, towards Newark. Newark is a friendly market town, nice to wander about in.

Just there last weekend. Decided we relaxed that much that we would leave it pitched till this weekend. Offered great rates to do this. Owners really lovely, and helpful. Site impeccably clean.
Pitch size accommodates my twin axle, awning and big 4x4 so not sure about other post re size of pitches. Not into into fishing, but lovely setting around lake if you are. Very busy in that area but we chose to be close to dog walk as we have a puppy being trained.
Can't hear any road noise but we are at the end of site furthest away from A1.

We had a lovely stay here for 2 nights only but it was very pleasant. Nice walks for the dog and the village is nice too.
The facilities are good, clean and its very organised and a popular place. The showers are good and clean, but only 2 per block, might be a queue if you was there in peak season.
We didn't have any problem with the A1 noise.
We didn't put our awning up but think it might have been a squeeze if we had needed to as the pitches are not too big.
