The weather was kind to us on our 4 night stay, so we decided not to put our awning up, which was just as well. This was because the pitches were not quite big enough to accommodate a car, awning and caravan sited in the way that was requested by the site leaflet.
The site was very pretty and well looked after, toilets etc very clean. We didn't have a noise problem from the nearby A1 as some reviews had said, and liked the locality of the little shop along the lane. The staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't be faulted in any way.
We would recommend this site to friends etc although a little pricey during the half term week !

We arrived very late (due to the usual sat nav problems, also Google maps had shown Milestone to be down the opposite end of the road) and in the dark and were meant to be in the late night arrivals area, but thankfully my Mum had paid the fees and positioned her 'motorhome' sign in our space. We snook on.
We loved the site, yes it was busy but due to me being a lazy bum, we didn't wait once for a shower (got there just before closing time both days). The shower blocks were both incredibly clean and well maintained. The gardens, lakes and whole landscape you can see are very well cared for. Had a nice chat with the male owner whilst he was cleaning, he really values his customers and was very friendly. They've not had the site that long and have spent a lot of money on doing it up.
The location of the site was perfect for our requirements. We were meeting up with my Mum in her Motorhome, who'd come all the way from Cornwall and we'd driven from the Lake District. We headed over with the kids to see my elderly grandparents who live in East Drayton, about a 7 mile drive. 4 generations together for dinner.
You could hear a small amount of road noise, that didn't affect our stay in any way. We were supposed to all stay on Clumber Park CC site, but there was a rally on that weekend. Clumber is much quieter, but the site isn't cared for nearly as much.
My Mum complained of not a lot of space but compared to some site's we've been on, we thought there was plenty of room. It just shows we're all different, and it also depends which end of the country you come from.
Would definitely visit this site again, probably for the same reasons as before.

Arrived about Friday at 1.00pm, already quite a few people were there, we wanted a pitch beside the lake as my OH and son were going fishing, luckily we got a pitch but had we arrived an hour later we would not have been in luck, it is first come first served basis. There are 100 pitches some hard standing and some grass, they were huge pitches so although campsite was full it never felt crowded.
Fish and Chip van came on Friday night 6.00pm to 7.30pm absolutely beautiful and very cheap.
OH and son caught some huge fish, personal bests actually, and they fish a lot. Cost £4.00 per day to fish, well worth it. They cannot wait to go back.
There are two toilet blocks one either end of the site, this is possibly my only downside, each block has only 4 toilets and 2 showers, so as you would expect I did have to wait about 30mins for a shower on the Sunday before we left.
There is a little road noise due to the closeness of the A1 and also a train does run past a field close by, but not enough noise to really disturb anyone.
If you are using Sat Nav please be aware that most people we spoke to, their sat nav had not taken them to the site but just directed them to A1 and then said 'arrived at destination' We spent about 10minutes trying to find it with our satnav redirecting us all the time in the wrong direction. Even when we were on site it keep telling us to turn as soon as possible. Mentioned this to the wardens who said this happens all the time.
If you are coming from North turn when you see the sign for the Doll Museum and follow the directions for that. If coming from the South turn just past the diner signposted Cromwell then turn left, site is on the right.
Even though we had a few niggles with this site we will definitely be returning in the future and would recommend it to anyone.

I agree with everything said but only have one bugbear. The proximity of the A1 gave us road noise all through the night but not enough to stop us from sleeping. We went mid-week so wonder whether the weekend traffic with fewer HGV's is quieter.
Fully booked for Easter 2010.
It is an CC associate site but is quite small - about 100 pitches but stretched along a couple of small lakes so there is never an impression of a 'large field' site. The far loos/shower block is being renovated and is only open at weekends but this is not a problem as we used the disabled loo/shower to avoid a longer walk to the other block.
Lots of ducks, 2 coot and 2 moorhen. Some rabbits!

Hard standings so take a lump hammer and your drill. Otherwise an excellent site. Will definitely return.Agree with all other positive comments. Actually managed to get some digital channels on caravan tv aerial. First and only time I have ever managed this.
Lakes v pretty. No noise from roads or rail. A perfect break. Very peaceful. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole long weekend despite appalling weather

When I tried to pre-book this site a day in advance I tried calling from around 6pm to 7.30pm and got no reply. Rang again the following morning and made a reservation without any problem. My difficulties the previous night were explained however. Arrived at around 5pm, booked in, chose a pitch, returned to the office just after 6pm for a gate key and it was all locked up. We didn't see a member of staff again until the following day. That is not to say the place wasn't well looked after and to the standard you'd expect, because it was. Just a bit sparse in the office manning department.
It's a great site as others have said, it is close to the A1 and a mainline railway but the noise was not too intrusive.
One word of warning, if you don't like mosquitoes this is NOT the place for you. Hundreds of them everywhere. We counted about 50 around the awning light as soon as it got dark.

Agree with all favourable comments regarding this excellent site, think the recent one by whelton 7576 sums everything up correctly especially the micro brewery next door, which was a plus point for me and also acts as a take away during the day, since there is no pub within reasonable walking distance. However there is The Plough in Norwood (didn't try this pub) and the GBG listed Muskham Ferry in North Muskham which serves good pub grub from 5 pm. + good real ales. Both pubs about 20 mins cycling distance although the latter one involves a hair-raising reverse trip adjacent the A1. For those like myself not wishing to drive there is an hourly bus service from Cromwell to at least 7 pm. to Newark.

Really like this site really easy to find just being off the a1.
Didn't have any road noise though.
Facilities were good and clean but there wasn't many showers facilities maybe stretched in high season.
Some nice areas to walk.
Not allot nearby.
Best to drive to see things I found plenty to do in the area for a couple of days.
Newark and Nottingham are all worth a visit.
Will go back again if in the area.

We came with friends and had a wonderful time and the wardens are so helpful and friendly. Cant wait to go back for our 4th visit this year. The site is so well kept clean. The only shop in the village is well stocked. Newark is only a short drive away with a small market on saturdays.

Stayed at Milestone Caravan Club site for a weekend break with our new caravan as it was not to far from home and close enough for parents to visit for a day. We had problems with the caravan's electrics and had fantastic help from a very friendly warden who helped us to diagnose the problem!
Site was lovely even on a cold Feb weekend, it was well kept and up to the usual high standards of the Caravan Club.
Due to 'caravan problems' we didn't get out as much as we hoped but Newark on Trent is 5 miles away with plenty of shops and places to eat.
The only negative point was there was no play park for the kids (but we knew that when we booked).
Overall we were very happy with the site and would certainly use as a base to travel around the area in the future.
