My goodness - it's strange to see how things that we've tried so hard to to do for the best have gone wrong!
At the risk of sounding like an oscar winner, let me start by thanking those who love Queensberry Bay and have taken the trouble to contribute here - we do appreciate it.
Then we need to thank those that haven't loved Queensberry Bay - sometimes you can get too close to something and miss the obvious so we do take on board your comments and make changes as a result. Thank you. I just wish you'd talked to us while you were here!
It is Mr Eriba's comments that have made us sit up and look seriously at what we're doing though. Apart from the fact that we've had to keep his eyeballs safe, he has obviously had a really bad experience - and that's simply not what we're about.
It might be helpful if I explain why we do certain things. It really isn't about the money -but if that's how it's come across then we've got it badly wrong.
Let's start with the showers. Each shower is in a self contained cubicle with a toilet and hand basin. We charge for showers because it stops people standing under them all day or leaving them running. It saves water. We charge from 20p and for £1 you get 6 minutes. For that we also include free shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and body lotion. We pay to play music in the background.
The money that we take from showers doesn't go anywhere near the cost of this facility and each year we put it towards the winter feed for the animals in pets corner to make the point that it isn't about money - it's about stopping waste. That's also why we put in the extras.
However, we don't tell people this!
So we're going to put up a big sign explaining what we do and why.
Then the spa.
Oh dear, oh dear!
We've certainly got that wrong!
At the start of this season, and seeing how the economy was, we decided to change our charging structure so that our guests could enjoy the spa for less - even though VAT had gone up! We did this by taking the sauna out of the normal session and making it an extra. So we dropped the basic price for 4 people for 2 hours' private spa use from £25 to £20 and charged the sauna at £5.
Again, if only we had told you!
So what are we doing? We're going back to basics. We will reinstate all the packages we used to have in the spa and make the sauna part of the basic spa package again.
You are right - we had cheapened it and not seen this for the trees. Thank you.
The increased charge for the premium pitch (on the shores of the Solway with water and electric included and enough space on each pitch to park sideways if you want) will stand - but returning guests get 10% off each and every booking.
Again - I bet we didn't tell you that either.
We're really good at this aren't we!
Finally - our regulars will understand how chuffed we are to announce that we've persuaded our Pam to come back on board. We realised that, when someone is as annoyed as Mr Eriba, it must go way beyond the £5 sauna charge and, looking at things dispassionately, we now see that we'd lost our edge.
We've offered her a huge pay rise and she's here! Whoopee! Don't stand still too long or she'll polish you !
So - if you want to come and get your eyeballs back sometime - and have a chat with us about what was really wrong - give us another go. We do care passionately, we do listen and we do learn - and we owe you one for pulling us up like that!
Thanks to all
John - one of the owners of Queensberry Bay (the nice one)
The one thing we do understand though is that, when the showers look great, you don't get annoyed by things like being charged for a shower (and to be honest I've always been charged wherever I've gone camping). So, thinking outside the box, we realised that something else must be wrong as well. So, to our regulars, when we say that we've managed to persuade Pam to come back you'll know that things are going to get better!

Having visited this park many times in my touring lifetime I felt it time I left a review. The one thing I love about this park is that it is FAMILY RUN, you can see the owners out on the park and communicating with the public. This for me makes it that little bit special. If you were to go to a commercial park you wouldn't find this. The pitches are large and spacious with room to move around them, you are not squeezed onto pitches, like other places, to maximise their profit.
There is now a sales office on the park, now sale you automatically think that they want to sell you something. But this park simply sells itself.
Mick, the sales chap on the park is simply there to answer any queries that you may have about owning a holiday home or to simply welcome you on the park and help you along if you are looking to purchase a van.
I have been to many caravan parks and find the prices on QB to be in the mid-range. They are more as fair for the facilities on the park.
I have stayed on many occasions and the toilets never fail to let you down! They are not recently done up but with the quality and cleanliness you would think so! The showers are heavenly, better as I have at home, and certainly better as my campervans shower!
I pay 40p for 2 minutes and find this well worth it, if it helps the environment and prevents wasting water then I am all for it. It also prevents waiting for showers, because someone wants to dilly dally for 45 minutes in the shower!
The staff are extremely friendly and approachable, nothing you ask is too much!
To finish it off, the spa. Now this is a treat. I am lead to believe the spa is closed for one day a week, when I queried why the staff informed me it was its 'deep clean day'. Now when you get in the standard of cleanliness is very high! No dirt in corners no dirty pool like large parks. Its just pure relaxation for 2 whole hours!
I would recommend this park to anyone!

What can I say, great site on the waters edge, a bit exposed but the site makes up for that. Spotless, very quiet day or night, great toilet block. Good shop with all the basics. I have sited my van here on a seasonal pitch as we enjoyed the place so much. Great staff who are very helpful.
Annan only 10 mins away gretna about 20 mins where you will find the gateway with a good selection of shops. Dumfries is about 25 mins drive away so the site is pretty much central for most places only 20 mins drive from the m74

Just arrived back from a weekend here, on arrival our pitch was on very wet grass so asked if we could move pitches to be told yes if we pay £x extra, and that was the start every time we asked can I the answer was yes for £ extra.
The showers are very good, but no better then other site that do not charge for using the water. Each cubicle had a shower toilet and very very small sink, very hard to clean teeth and wash face. £1 for 6 mintue shower and 20p min to use hairdryer.
When paying £27 per night you would think showers would be free. We booked the spa, on the website it says spa has sauna hot tub, and hydro pool.
We arrived 5 min early to be told we would have to wait to our allocated time and make sure we were out on time. I asked how to switch the sauna on to be told if we wanted to use it it would be a extra £££, as I didn't have my purse on me I agreed to pay and asked if I could pay after the session as time was ticking on to be told no. £32 for 2 hours in a hot tub and pool is a little bit much. Also while we were in the pool we notice CCtv camera!
Asked would we like a newspaper ordering, and when we went to collect it from the shop - guess what it was the price of the paper plus a delivery charge - we collected it from the shop !
Lovely views from the site but not a lot else in the area.
Free wifi but will not give you the code, you take your laptop or phone to them and they put the code in.
Would we return - Yes to get our eye balls back

Hi just back from this site me and my 3 young kids had a good long weekend there. The allocated pitch was in very good condition and very big I put most off pegs in be hand. We were at the kiddies field which is great, we had a huge playing field right in front of us and near the excellent toilets, laundry, campers kitchen and shop. The staff were very good. This site is very good for younger kids, my 3 loved the animal farm. I have been to many sites up n down uk this site is one of the best I've been to, and might even go back happy camping

A very cold wet windy evening when we arrived but the welcome from the reception staff was warm and friendly.
The site certainly has a magnificent outlook over the Solway, and the friendly emus and alpacas made interesting park companions. A few more trees and shrubs would be nice. Reception shop well stocked and helpful local information.
Shower area very comfortable, sadly the hot water was not hot enough and it is a coin operated shower which can be awkward if you want to leave early and haven't the coins.
Excellent laundry facility.

Stopped off here on our way back from a tour of Scotland. About 10 miles from the motorway. Selected a premium shoreside pitch which had great views over the Solway Firth. Nothing much else around other than the golf club about 1/2 mile down the road.
Very peaceful site made up of a mix of motorhomes, tourers and statics. They also accept tents but there were none at the time of our stay.
Site is quite regimented in the way it is set out with all units being in rows. It also had the feel of a commercial site rather than a family run site. There were numerous statics/lodges being advertised for sale and a sales office near to reception.
The site does not claim to be child friendly. It does allow children but there are areas that are adult only. It does have a football area for children and a pets corner.
The shop appeared to have a reasonable selection of everyday items you may need. There is also a Spa on site but we didn't check it out as it was closed for the day.
The downside is that the site is a little bit pricey. For the shoreside premium pitch we paid £27 for 2 adults & 1 dog. This was by far the most we have paid for the whole trip although this did include free WiFi, which is a major plus point.
There are also cheaper pitches available that just don't have the views. We were happy to pay the price as it was just one night until we noticed that it did not include the showers!
Don't get me wrong, the showers have recently been done up and are very good (they are not the best we are ever likely to find as their website claims!). However to have to pay an additional 40p for 2 minutes or £1 for 6 minutes seems penny pinching. The website also doesn't mention the shower costs when boasting about how good they are.
So, would we return? Not until they stop charging for showers.

Based on the many positive reviews, regarding this site, I chose it to debut my new Pamandi 4 for a quick overnighter. Very very impressed, my only surprise being we were the only tent on site, however it was a Wednesday night and the friendly & helpful staff told me its mainly weekends when the tenting brigade are out in force.
A big plus for me was how generously sized the the tent pitches are, I wish all sites could afford you that much room. As mentioned by other forum members, the toilets and shower block are truly excellent. In my opinion as a seasoned camper for over 30 years, they set the standard all campsites should aspire to.
We had our evening meal at the Powfoot golf hotel, approx 1/2 mile walk from the site. I can heartily recommend this place as the food and drink was great ,reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly and cheerful. Overall then an excellent first experience of Queensberry Bay. Will definitely return and stay longer in the near future.

I have just arrived home after a great weekend camping at this campsite. I had pre booked a tent pitch with hookup which was reasonably priced at 30 pounds per night for 2 adults and 2 children (over 5 yrs)
I arrived on Friday night and was surprised at the facilities at this site, the shower rooms are probably the best I've seen on a campsite.
My two children were kept entertained by the animals and the safe playing environment, all staff I encountered during my stay were pleasant and happy to help.
The site is ideally located for easy access to nearby Annan and Dumfies both of which are worth a visit, all in all a good weekend was had by all and I would recommend Queensbury Bay holiday park to anyone.
