We booked this site in advance for 2 nights with hard standing and EHU. We have stayed on this site several times in the 1970s and know the location and the area well, the poly tunnel and food and drink on site are new to us at this site. The site was the most expensive one we stayed on in our tour of wester Ross -a whopping 49 pound for 2 people for 2 nights but it was the most disappointing, the site benefits from a naturally stunning location, but it has a tired and slightly run down look about it and we didn't think the pitch was worth it at all - if we hadn't booked we would have done without the EHU and paid the basic pitch price of 36 quid ( 18 quid per night for a tent in a field with inadequate toilets seems pricey to me-we were very glad we had our own washing facilities on board-the poor campers hadn't )
I would say that the toilets were inadequate for the number of units that were on site while we were there, including 15 wigwams, all 10 hard standing pitches taken and many other tents and campers dotted around there were about 40 units sharing 2 toilets in the gents (one not working on one morning so a queue for a toilet ) and 2 showers in both mens and women's facilities, they weren't particularly clean and were unheated. Not helped by the unmade road and car park which turns into a mud bath in the rain.
The site has 2 large fields, if you don't want EHU you can choose a pitch, the EHU hard standing ones are lined up alongside the muddy track that serves as the service road in the least attractive location on the site, they are also squeezed together so close we could hear our neighbours although the fields are large !
The website states there are security barriers, in fact traffic was driving on site through the night and as our pitch -( only ones with EHU) was 1 foot from the only road it was noisy, not helped by the occupants of the wigwam behind who were sitting outside their unit laughing and talking till 1. 30 am -adding to my impression that once the bar was locked up everyone connected to the site was off site !
The bar and food would seem to be an advantage to some but to be honest it isn't really needed here as the excellent Applecross inn is 5 minutes down the hill - though certainly it is advantage for tent campers to have a covered area in a wet climate -there didn't seem to be a campers kitchen (which many forward thinking campsites in NW Scotland now provide -usually with cookers / microwaves and even some with log burners and comfy sofas ) The food at the inn is very good - we have eaten there often, we didn't try the food on the site so cannot comment -as it was a special occasion for us - we ate dinner at the potting shed in the walled garden as you come into Applecross from sheildaig direction -lovely meal
Applecross is spectacularly beautiful and well worth the drive, it's a pity this is the only site in the village as it could do with a bit of competition, Applecross is lovely but so is much of wester Ross - applecross campsite should take a leaf from another lovely site in that area - Sands holiday centre at Gairloch -with sparkling clean toilet blocks, nice campers kitchen with microwave and cookers and room for family groups - and an eatery at the barn on site -great shop -and best of all it's own beautiful beach with stunning mountain views -if they can provide a lovely holiday experience why can't Applecross ?

Location Location Location!
This site has to be in one of the best location's in the Scottish highlands! the Bealach na Bà is worth the trip by itself. But any way onto the site
The good
Shower work great nice and hot
Toilets were clean the whole time we were there.
Flower tunnel is great for the kids (food was nice, but is better at the pub).
The bad
Site does get very busy in the school holidays
Need more toilets in the school holidays

Really good location, stunning drive to get there, and you won't be disappointed when you do! Very nice site good staff good pitches and clean facilities. The restaurant is very good, good service, food and price. Only negatives facilities are very clean but inadequate for busy times, and it is a field, a lovely grassy field but that's it. Applecross is very nice place and surrounding area, stunning! Great for walkers, photography and just chilling.

We stayed here for two nights in April when the site was quiet which meant we could pitch wherever we liked. The ground was level but we needed the occasional rock peg for hard patches. Trees line the site and provide shelter but also screen the view. It was very peaceful with the main sound being birdsong.
Very friendly staff but we were amused to find that they didn't seem to know some of the information on their website, such as the prices. We paid online for the first night, but were charged less on the second night although I pointed out the difference. Also the website said that the Flower Restaurant would be closed, whereas it was open when we arrived.
Toilet and shower facilities were very clean. Hooks and shelves in the showers and the free use of a hairdryer. No mobile reception but a pay phone is provided. Washing machine, dryer and washing up facilities available. There is apparently wifi on site but we couldn't get it to work. Lovely cakes served in the Flower Restaurant which is like a polytunnel with plants and flowers growing along the sides. In one corner of the site are the remains of a broch, which is undergoing archaeological investigation.
Applecross has beautiful views across the sea to Skye. There is a craft shop, Visitor Centre, petrol pumps, a kayaking place and the Applecross Inn which is lively and serves wonderful food. The nearest shop and post office is a tiny store a mile and a quarter out of Applecross. Unless you are vegetarian it can be a challenge shopping for a main meal as the choice is bacon, bacon or bacon. Not much else. The tiny post office is closed for several days of the week.
We found this a beautiful and relaxing place to visit and would like to spend more time here as there are many places we didn't have time to see.

We had wanted to visit Applecross on our travels around Scotland and arrived on a very wet day in October. We had pre-booked and pre-paid for 6 nights via the website, though this wasn't really necessary in October as the site was very quiet.
Upon arrival, we asked if we were entitled to a refund should we decide to leave a day early and were told that, unless we'd taken out cancellation insurance, there were no refunds. In future, I'll just book for 1 night to secure a pitch then pay for each extra day that we stay.
The site is level and drains well - despite 48hrs of solid rain the ground remained fairly solid.
We decided to leave our car in the gravel car park instead of parking on the grass to avoid damaging the field and prevent us from getting stuck.
The on-site restaurant/bar was closed throughout our stay. This is not advertised online, and although we weren't particularly bothered it would have been nice to have known this.
Instead we visited the Applecross Inn which is a 5-minute walk from the campsite and serves great beer and food - definitely recommended!
The on-site facilities were adequate, but could do with a bit of TLC. Many of the door-hooks had been snapped off in the showers, and the tiling was starting to look a little bit tired. There are only 2 male and 2 female showers, and this is a big site. I would imagine during the summer months when the site is busy that this is woefully inadequate, however it wasn't an issue for us - though they were not cleaned regularly and after the recent bad weather the floor in toilets and showers was quite muddy and I don't think the facilities were cleaned to a particularly high standard.
The staff, when they were around, were pleasant enough though nobody was in the office over the weekend during our stay.
It should be noted that during our stay there were several cars driving on/off the site during the night. I'm unsure why this was, but it seemed to happen most nights.
The advertised on-site wifi is not free, and is not site-wide. It seems to work around the cafe, however it was £20 for a week's access. Your better off going and having a pint and using the free wifi down at the Inn.
Applecross has plenty to do - spectacular views, lovely walks, a cracking pub and is the most wonderful location. Sadly, there's little choice for camping up here - you either wild camp somewhere, or use the campsite. It was fine for what we needed, but I don't think I'd go back during the busy times. It's not cheap, and everything is 'extra' - even changing the dates of your booking incurs an admin fee!
We'll probably return, but will not pay for our pitch in advance and certainly won't visit during peak season.

After a long drive on scariest road ever (cant comment on the views as it was raining!) arrived to the most beautiful spot with great staff. Huge campsite, lots of spaces to pitch all very level and surrounded by trees obstructing the wind. Pub/restaurant on site was very good, food was good quality and good value, cakes were lovely. Great on site staff, very informative and friendly.
Only 2 showers in ladies, so was a bit of a queue sometimes, also ran out of wc paper towards the end of the night and it was not restocked until next day afternoon. Lots of leaflets of local walks in the reception - was very useful and we discovered the most beautiful little beach after a nice long walk.
Applecrosss inn just 5min walk with good menu and views over skye. Near by was a small petrol station and a shop with great selection of bits and pieces and toys for kids. Lovely stay with great views, just wish the weather was a bit better on the drive to this idyllic campsite.

As previously said the roads in and out of Applecross are worth the trip alone, stunning roads and views. We stayed for one night on our tour and managed to book online the night before.
The campsite is clean and tidy with the added bonus of the on site bar/cafe. Food and drink reasonably priced.
We had a hard standing pitch and hook up which for me I felt a little on the high side price wise but the site does have everything you need.
Showers are hot and free, could do with a bit of updating and I can see there been queues when the sites busy.
For a big site its well maintained with all the facilities including washers, dryers and so on. The staff are helpful and friendly and the site as a whole is pretty quiet.
There are some great walks out of the campsite, all in guide leaflets provided at reception. Applecross itself is a small place with a shop, garage, pub and info point so everything you need. The views across to Skye are very nice on an evening.

Fantastic site with a ton of level space to pitch on and lots to do nearby.
Excellent seaside pub/restaurant within a couple of minutes walk, lots of historical monuments and a wide variety of walks right from the site. Lovely, flower-filled poly-tunnel bar/restaurant to hang out in when the weather closes in and lots of forested hills all around to explore in inclement weather.
Friendly helpful staff, pitch by your car, good clean facilities. And plenty of them. In short, everything one could hope for in a campsite in a lovely, quiet part of Scotland.
The mountain approach is almost worth the trip alone, crossing over one of the highest roads in the UK with stunning views all the way.

Fantastic site although quite a walk to the toilets in the middle of the night depending on where you pitch! On site restaurant is fab but the drinks are quite expensive.
The food is very high quality and they do the lightest most gorgeous cakes! Applecross Inn is 5 mins down the hill and has a wider selection of food which again is really good and the Inn has a great view across the water to Skye and the Cuillins.
Staff are all really friendly and chatty and thet have a leaflet in the reception of local walks to go which we made use of as we had our dog! Toilets and showers are great too and very clean! Laundry worked a treat too.
Beach is only a 10 min walk away and there's also a place that does kayak lesson and climbing! There is a post office and shop at the bottom of the hill but I wasn't in it! And the other shop is a good mile and a half along the road but very well stocked and a nice man who owns it!
Loved Applecross and will definitely go back soon!

After that wonderful drive over the pass of the cattle, really is beautiful and very scary, the campsite was a welcome sight, a beautiful place well laid out and pleasant.
Nice pub and restaurant on site, used pub not restaurant though as was a bit pricey, did sample banoffie pie though, which was the best ever!
Reasonably priced campsite with excellent facilities in a wonderful location, will be going back there.
