We visited Applecross in July just after the Games. First off, this is a very very remote site and you need to be a confident driver to go over The Pass of the Cattle. Second, the site itself is lovely, but you don't get the greatest of views from the first field. Flowers Cafe is good for drinks and getting away from the midges. Actually the midges weren't too bad but still a nuisance. The Applecross Inn was brilliant for atmosphere and food. Although there is a beach just 10 minutes walk away, there is a beach with the UK's highest sand dune a short drive along the coast and is definitely worth a visit. Would I go again? Yes, but someone else can do the driving and I'd prefer a more midge free month of the year.

I think for £16 a night the site should provide more showers than two as there must have been well over 100 people on the site. Although the showers were good I had to wait an hour early one morning , the site was very busy and I think the price merited more showers. No plugs in the washing up sinks. The site was very well placed in a wonderful village , the pub was lovely with excellent food. The pass to get to the site was awesome , the coast road was lovely but a long way round. We wouldn't go to the site again but we are pleased we went just to see the site/village and pass!

There is little that can add to the positive comments that have already been written about the site. The location is breath taking, the facilities are excellent, the food in the Flower Tunnel and nearby Potting Shed is excellent. The drive over the Bealach nam Bo is an alpine mountain experience and the views at the top will stay with you forever.
It's worth stocking up on food and essentials at Loch Carron's excellent Spar (there's also a bank at Loch Carron) since the small shop at Applecross will only provide you with last minute essentials and the daily papers (which are delivered at 11:00am).
Really lovely site - recommend camping in the second quieter field.
With so many positive statements you just have to go!

I stayed at the site during the Highland Games. The site was very busy and it was difficult to find a suitable pitch - even though we were booked. The Games took up a good part of the first field.
The facilities are good with plenty of hot water and a laundry. There are no set pitches and some of the units were very close together which was worrying. The electric hook ups are in the first field and the second field was full of tents so those campers had a good walk to the toilets as all the facilities are near reception.
The weather was quite hot and fortunately the midges were not too bad. There is a small shop/Post Office and a pub in the village but the nearest petrol was at Loch Carron. The scenery was stunning. I found about the after games Dance when I arrived and it was quite noisy! The journey over the pass was OK but I preferred the coast road for the scenery.
The site would probably be less busy when the Games were not on which would be better. If I return to Wester Ross I think that I would stay on a different site as I prefer somewhere quiet without a bar.

We arrived at this site after crossing the pass of the cattle. We were told previously, when booking, that the applecross games would take during our stay on site. No information was given of the after party.
We were greeted by kind staff and read the board that units would be around 3m apart. One problem was that the toilets were still not cleaned by 4 o'clock - they closed at 12 for cleaning.
There was an air of community spirit as everyone helped to put up marquees for the next days events.
The Applecross games were very enjoyable and every got together for the event. However the evening dance was not so enjoyable. To start with another caravan was squeezed in between us and our neighbouring tent. The gap between was just wide enough to walk through! The 3m rule had gone out the window.
The dance cost £7.50 per person to get in. As our motorhome was parked no more than 8 feet away from the marquee, we decided to sit in and listen, avoiding the midges. Music began at 10.00pm but testing of sound equipment began just after 8.00pm. The whole motorhome vibrated and shook. Just before 10pm the youths of the area arrived, to join the ones that were already staying at the site.
The music finally subsided, but people didnt go straight home so there was a lot of talking still going on.
The next morning the toilets were disgraceful as no additional toilet facilities were provided for people that were not staying on the site. There was no toilet roll and cans/disposable glasses were scattered around the basins and on the floor. This was similar to the state of the site. Glass bottles and cans littered the site.
This site would be very nice at any other time, but the staff at time of booking could have provided more information on the location of the games and give a warning to us about what was going to happen.

We arrived around 5pm and were greeted by very friendly reception staff. There are 2 fields to choose a pitch from, the second is a bit quieter as the first field is nearer to the toilets, shower blocks and reception. The toilet / shower blocks were very clean and the water was lovely and hot!
Fantastic walks in the woods and on the beaches. Dogs need to be kept on a lead on the site though.
The famous Applecross Inn is a 3 minute walk down the hill from the campsite where locally caught seafood is a speciality.
Midges were present but not unbearable considering the time of year.
The access road is narrow and windy but the views are amazing.
Well worth a visit and extra effort to get there!

We arrived late, reception wasn't open but note on the door telling late arrivals to find a pitch and will sort out things in the morning.
Reception, was very friendly with a computer with free use of the internet, also a bar and telephone, mobiles have poor reception. The Flower Tunnel restaurant was not open during our visit however, people were invited to use the tables to eat their own food in if they wished.
The site facilities toilets, showers, laudrette etc., were very good and clean. The site is mostly sloping but tent area is more level. There were some small wooden type accommodation and half a dozen statics.
The journey to Applecross is a little daunting for most caravans so mostly tents and motorhomes but it is certainly worth the journey. Post Office nearby is 5 minute walk away, combined with grocery shop and fuel pumps to meet with most of your requirements including a good bottle of wine. The pub, also 5 minutes walk, is a must try for food, great fish & chips. We sat in the small beer garden on a Sunday afternoon whilst a young lady played a harp beautifully, we sat looking over the loch.
There is also a Restuarant, 5 minute drive 'The Potting Shed', although we never tried it other campers said it is worth a visit and the food is very good.
Walks from the site, we saw deer in the woods and a short drive up the Balloch.
Very friendly atmosphere.
We are already planning to visit again next year.

We hired one of the sites wooden wigwams. We usually use our tent but wanted to try out the wigwams. They were immaculate, raised off the ground, with four big mats for sleeping on and a raised sleeping area, two sockets and lights. my husband (5' 10") could stand up in them but you need to bend to fit in the door, just like a tent. The toilet block was in old farm buildings but the facilities inside are modern and clean with free hot water. There is loads of flat ground for camping and the flower tunnel cafe for meals although they were not serving hot food when we were there and said it would be July until they were doing hot food. There were sandwiches and cakes. The scenery is stunning, I took a book with me to read but never even opened the front page. Well signposted walks around Applecross house, we had coffee and fantastic swiss roll (it's huge with real strawberries in it) at the potting shed cafe - they also do meals which looked yummy. We visited the historical centre, very interesting - lots of reading and items on display. We had a meal at the Applecross Inn, very reasonable and well presented. We sat outside in the beer garden at 9.30 and watched the sunset - beautiful. The village shop is really well stocked and they go out of their way to get newspapers to sell with an almost 40 mile round trip to pick them up from Lochcarron every morning! The drive over the mountain pass is spectacular, you need to be a confident and careful driver but it is spectacular and well worth the trip.

Awesome site. Stunning location. Easy drive in round the coast road. (the mountain road is highly recommended once you've unhitched - a load of fun with some of the best views in the country) The site is relaxed, clean, friendly, quiet at night, good showers, nice restaurant and bar and great people running it. They serve a great pizza and have some pretty tempting cakes. Set slap bang in the middle of the Applecross estate it doesn't justify the previous criticism of not having a park for the children. If many thousands of acres of Scotland's finest mountains, moors and beaches don't suffice then don't leave the sofa! Great walking from the site. Stunning seafood at the pub. Village shop is pretty good. Buy seafood off the jetty two villages away. Just spent 10 days there and would go back tomorrow. The view over the bay from the site at sunset is stunning. The mountains are behind you and Skye is in front of you. Unbeatable.
