Lovely site - Mrs Pugh is really kind and very helpful. We paid £14 per night for 2 of us and a fairly large 4 man tent, so we were rather happy!
Mrs Pugh said to park anywhere, and we found a nice pitch near to the river bank - near to a communal fire pit! we popped to reception and they provided us with a free bucket of kindling wood and newspaper to get the fire going.
Facilities are basic but very clean. 3 hot unisex showers and a shower in each the male and female loo block.
The site is a perfect location to the many waterfalls in the brecons, and the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery!
They have electric hook ups for caravans and tents, but we didn't use these.
Be warned though, the hooting owls may keep you up in the night, and make sure not to step on the local sniffling hedgehogs when taking midnight trips to the loo!
Oh also a lovely (if small) playground for the kids too.

Stayed at Grawen for 4 days on August bank hol. Honestly can't remember how much we were charged but it was very reasonable. Weren't lucky with the weather, was pissing down all 4 days so not much for walking, ended up doing castles, steam railways and caves.
There were quite a lot of people coming and going over the weekend, on Sunday the site was full but it never got overcrowded or too noisy. There's no marking for individual pitches and the owners gave us a choice of where to pitch up.
I didn't find the utility block at all bad and the water in showers was hot, at least so long as you avoid the 'rush hour'. There's no meter in showers (any more?) and the only utility you'd have to pay for is hot water for washing-up. There are 2 shower cabins, plus one each in the ladies and mens toilet blocks, plus one in the main house - makes 5. The utility block is cleaned regularly and we didn't have any problem with soap.
As for places to visit, Sgwd-yr-eira waterfall is within a 20-min drive and well worth seeing! It's not big but very beautiful and you can walk behind it if you're not afraid of getting completely soaked! Good route map essential tho, as the signposts are intentionally wrong. Many of South Wales' castles are within a driving distance as well, and if you can spare about an hour's driving on narrow country roads, Carreg Cennen castle is absolutely unmissable! It has a natural cave but you'll need a good torch. Caerfilly castle quite impressive too.
Food wise, we ended up going to Brecon a lot (30-min drive) - they have a fantastic Italian restaurant called Roberto's or Alberto's, it's just by the cathedral.
Overall had a good stay (considering weather), my only grudge is the spotlight right above our tent that kept on coming on at night without any reason or logic but wasn't too bright and didn't keep us awake.

Stayed at Grawen Campsite 31st July - 1st August 08 (2 nights). We stayed in a tent so can't comment on electric but seemed to be high standard from other visitors at the time. A lovely quiet campsite surrounded in the vicinity of the Beacons. 3 lovely lakes well worth visiting and if your a walker, Pen Y Fan is well worth walking. The pitches are at a very good standard. Plenty of room for children to play aswell, with a playground in the bottom tent field. 1 washer and dryer provided on site (1 pound for 1 wash or dry) Some negatives though, toilet, shower and utility block old. Hand soap not provided in loo's. 20p for hot water in utility room just gave you cold water and showers are cold. Block also seems infested with wasps (my girlfriend got stung whilst showering). Overall campsite and surroundings is nice apart from the campsites utility block.

This was our first night stay in our caravan since we got it and local for us to try it out. Found the site very easy as it's sign posted well and on the main road (A470). Didn't have a clue as to what we needed to do once we parked up but was greeted by a lovely warm welcome and there was no formality, it was like staying with family. Managed to get pitched up fine although I found it hard to understand where the boundaries of each pitch were. Had a bit of fun putting up the awning as, in places, the ground is about 2 inches of earth and then you hit rock. I guess the cheap bendy pegs we had didn't help. The site is very clean and all you need is close to hand. There are some lovely views and it's very peaceful despite being quite close to the road above (about 200 yds). Although we only stayed the 1 night we would definitely recommend. We will definitely return for another stay (slightly longer next time).

16 of us ventured down to the Grawen Campsite for May Bank Holiday weekend (3 nights) (both adults & kids) for the Millenium Magic weekend and were very impressed with the site. We had 3 big dome tents and were placed in the bottom of the field below the childrens play area. Much to our luck previous campers had created a spot for a camp fire which we were able to take advantage of and plenty of wood to keep us going for the duration. Toilets and showers cannot be faulted, (3 unisex showers, 1 in the ladies and maybe 1 in the mens, not sure) all kept very clean and showers were hot. There are no electric points in the toilets to use hairdryers so we used our electric hook up cable and plugged it in outside the toilets.
The Grawen is a short taxi ride from Merthyr Tydfil in which you will find shopping centres and all the usual town centre shops. There is an Asda for buying food etc. A short drive away so wouldnt bother taking it with you if you need the car space. We caught the train from Merthyr into Cardiff which took approx 1 hour, £5.10 return with the last train back being around 9.30pm from Cardiff, we found there to be plenty of room on the train at that time.
Overall very beautiful, well kept site surrounded by fields, hills, stream & lambs, Mr & Mrs Pugh let you get on with it and are happy to help if needs be, can't fault the place and a bargain too, think we paid £5 per adult per night with a discount for our larger tent that housed more people. Although we like to try different places, this is definitely a site I would return to.

This was the first time we had ventured to this area of South Wales having stayed in Mid Wales the night before. Pulling into a layby on the A470 near to Aberfan, we flicked through the C&CC handbook and called Grawen C&C. We were in luck, and we managed to book in for remaining two nights of the bank holiday. Facilities were first class and could not be faulted in any way. The site was well maintained with seperate areas for motorhome/caravans with electric hook up.
Being in a valley TV reception, isn't that good, but it IS watchable if your desparate to watch it.
Despite being just off the main A470, there is NO road noise, as the site is lower down the valley and shielded by the tree's
The site is on the southern border of the Brecon Beacons National Park, but the beauty does not end at the border. It is clear that a lot has happened in South Wales valleys since the demise of the coal industry. I never thought the valleys would be so beautiful. Whilst we ventured out to the Brecon Mountain Railway, the Pontypool-Blaenavon Railway and the Big Pit National Heritage site, other campers had used the site as a base camp whilst attending the Rugby Leagues matches at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.
All in All superb site, with definitely be using it again.
One minor critisism, the site does need a larger sign at the entrance, as the entrance also doubles as the entrance to the water treament plant. Also our Tom Tom sat nav could not find the site by the address, and took us into the village two miles away. TIP: The site is actually the first site on the left after you see the sign for LLWYN ON VILLAGE when travel up the A470 from the A465 roundabout at Merthyr Tydfi

This was our first camping experience and I must say it was everything I was hoping for. When I first telephoned, the person I was speaking to ( I think it was Mr Pugh) was very helpful and quite amusing. We arrived on the Friday after a very straightforward journey and first impressions were very good. Mrs Pugh was at the reception desk and was very nice. She told us that because we arrived early in the day - just find a space and set up, which we did in the big field.
The place is extremely neat and tidy - well manicured hedges by the house etc. There are 2 sets of toilets, showers, utility room, chem. Disposal and the reception sells cold drinks and ice cream etc. Some people here have mentioned midges, but they were not that bad in the evening, although I did have a few bites ( I wasn't wearing any repellent!). The smaller fields had electric hookup but these contained more families and caravans. There is a slight slope in some areas of the big field, but even on the bank holiday weekend, the field was big enough to find a flat bit.
The only small downside is that the only walk from the campsite was to the nearby reservoir and the Taff Trail, but if you use the car or bicycle, a bit further down is Pen Y Fan and some breathtaking scenery.Overall, a great site and one we will return to.

I stayed here for one night and found it very nice. The facilities were very clean and always plenty of hot water. I stayed in the bottom Field in front of the house so we had to walk up the hill to use the facilities, I personally didn't find this a problem. The owners are very friendly and welcoming they sell some bits and pieces on the site but the closest shop is only a short drive away. I will be returning to the site with my children for a few days in September, we cant wait to go back.

Mrs Pugh is lovely, I could tell that when I booked and she told me she would be really full for the weekend of the Donny concert, but we were very welcome. Despite it being busy with Donny fans, including us, and a very wet and muddy weekend, the facilities were clean, the site is lovely with a little stream. We were recommended a superb hotel down the road for lunch. Mr Pugh had to push our car out of the field when it got stuck in the mud, this was not too much trouble for them. Mrs Pugh booked a crowd of us a minibus to take us to the concert and she said the next day she had watched it on telly! I will certainly return, hopefully on a sunny weekend to really enjoy this lovely campsite.

Just stayed 4 nights at this idyllic campsite. If you're after beautiful surroundings, a friendly welcome and a base to explore the Brecons, then this is it. The facilities are basic but are immaculately clean. You will need a 20p coin for hot water to wash up (although the water wasn't that hot). However, there was plenty of free hot water in the showers. A previous review said there wasn't enough showers but we went on a bank holiday weekend, with quite a few people on site, and never had to queue for any of the facilities. We had a large corner pitch on the caravan field and it was a bit hit and miss as to whether our pegs went into grass or stone (but thanks to the advice of a previous comment, we brought along heavy duty pegs and didn't have a problem). Mrs Pugh sells milk, chocolate bars and drinks on site but the shops in Cefyn Coed are only a 5 minute drive away. There is a small climbing frame play area for the children. We loved this site and will definitely be back.
