Visited over a weekend in beautiful summer weather, family tent. Rang ahead and checked that there was space. Campsite is in a stunning valley location, and is beautifully laid out with site divided into smaller areas to pitch in, very nicely done - no long rows of regimented tents here! There are areas for adults only, and quiet areas 'no noise after 10pm'.

Toilet and shower facilities, and washing up room were all heated, and kept clean and well stocked. No additional charge for shower facilities, nor for re-freezing our icepacks at the coffee shop - this is worth taking into account when considering the cost of the campsite (June 2010 Adult £7 Child £5) Note that there are no power points in washroom, and no hand/hair dryer, so unless you have EHU no way to blow dry your hair.

No other facilities on site - no bar, no games room, just beautiful views and and wonderfully tidy low key quiet site. With close proximity to the caves, the Craig y nos country park is just across the road, and surrounding hills/nearby Breacons Way provided enough entertainment for our family for 3 days, no need to get in the car.

During our visit midges were a problem in the evenings - undeterred by citronella candles.

Caution,: you may need rock / hard ground pegs if you wish to erect and awning. Levelling blocks also required!

A very nice 'basic' site set in the countryside at the side of Dan Yr Ogof caves and farm. Very easy to get to, either coming from Brecon or from the M4 near Swansea.

Directions when you arrive on site are not clear - we had no idea what to do or where to check in etc. Luckily the helpful warden found us first and showed us to our pitch. We had a nice secluded pitch at the top of the site (where they seem to put tourers / motorhomes - tents are lower down) set back in the trees. We liked this a lot!

Only issue for us was that we were not prepared for the hardstanding pitch we were put on. Most of the touring pitches are hardstanding so you will need rock pegs for your awning. Pitch was nice though not level so blocks were required. You seem to get your own tap and waste disposal on all the pitches - as we don't usually use these type of pitches we could not fully take advantage but it was handy all the same.

Shower block was clean (there is a rack provided for your dirty shoes which you are asked kindly by the signs to remove) and the showers were warm. Other than Elsan Point, Washing Up Area and rubbish bins there are no other facilities on site - we couldn't get TV or Orange Mobile signal either which wasn't an issue for us but worthy of a mention!

Site is within 30 minute drive of Swansea and Brecon - both nice places to visit and plenty to do! Very nice Country Park within a 2 minute drive and the pubs in the area looked nice too.

Overall I'd recommend this site - we booked a week before the bank holiday and they had spaces. Site was nice and quiet!

Have just returned from a weekend at this site and was really impressed. The warden is very friendly and helpful, and regularly tours the campsite in his red pick-up. The site itself is great, some larger open spaces and then smaller areas among the trees near the toilet block, with some areas marked as Adult Only or as Quiet Zones.

The toilet block was spotless and the 6 toilets and 3 showers for women were perfectly adequate. The washing-up room which doubles as a drying room had plenty of hot water, although there was a problem with the water one day but there were workmen there straight away trying to sort it out.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and with the caves to do we had a great time with our 3 year old and 8 month old despite pouring rain all day on Saturday. The coffee shop is nice although meals are rather limited to the 'something and chips' variety, but were very tasty and good value.

All in all, a great site for families and although not cheap (£7 per adult per night and £5 per child ) it was a great place to go.

I spent a long weekend on this site with a rally and and we had 21 vans. We had one large area for 10 of us and the rest were mainly in little areas in the trees. I'm not sure whether every pitch is fully serviced but certainly the area we had was.

The site is beautiful and so clean, the toilets and showers spotless - although I agree with a previous review that a separate dressing area in the shower cubicle would have been nice as you had to make sure you hung things right up high so they didn't get wet. The warden was great and almost became one of us over the weekend and couldn't have been more helpful.

The caves are well worth a visit, the dinosaur park is amusing and beautifully landscaped. There is a museum, a coffee shop which serves food and a small gift shop. There is also a small farm which has shire horses and various small animals and birds.

There is a lot of walking directly from the site - if you walk up the mountain behind the site the views are out of this world.

There's a castle in a country park a few minutes walk away (Craig y Don) which is totally dog-friendly except for the restaurant.

The pub, about 10 minutes walk away, has recently been taken over by new people. We went for a meal on the Saturday night and it was excellent food and very good value - I paid £13 for 3 courses.

We've booked for the club to go again in 2011!

This is a beautifully maintained site that seemed to be run by one very friendly warden, although I am sure there were many staff members. The site is set in the brecon becons and would be ideal for walkers. I on the other hand don't do walking but do have children that require entertaining, and the show caves certainly do that. Great value for money, and I am so glad we were on site so we didn't have to rush around the attractions.

The location doesn't have a shop for buying self catering food so we did venture out to find a local pub. The Gwyn Arms was just 10 minutes walk from our caravan and the food there was all we needed and it had an outdoor play area for the children. Which was great as there isn't one on the site.

The toilets on the site were well looked after and towel hooks over a radiator was a great idea after a shower.

This site would suit all ages of people and they even had adult only areas for those who didn't want to be disturbed by my children playing games.

We stayed here as part of a club, and had a field away from the main site, all to ourselves. Each field has it's own water supply.

Although the shower and toilet block was only a few minutes walk away, we were provided with a couple of portaloos for our convenience.

I have visited this site for at least 6 years, and the site is always kept clean and tidy. The toilets and showers are kept clean, heated and well lit.

The warden is approachable and very helpful.

I can not fault this site, and is certainly excellent value for money.

Outstanding site, much more laid back than a CC SITE. Huge pitches with Ehu and water and grey water waste. Staff must work hard to keep such high standard; lovely clean facilities and so much to do in such a short distance. We are fussy and this place is faultless, only one downside which is the midges, they always win whatever you try ,but we will be back.

One of the best site I've ever visited in 20 years of caravanning.

Clean and tidy but not fussily so, beautiful views, quiet and peaceful.

Very helpful and friendly owner who tours the site at regular intervals through the day. Easy to find him, though you are probably only going to need him when you want to tell him how good his site is!

Excellent walking direct from the site. Very dog friendly.

We had a roomy fully serviced hardstanding pitch for a very reasonable £15 a night. Even on Spring Bank holiday weekend the site wasn't quite full.

The Ancient Briton pub is a short drive away and serves good food and beer at reasonable prices, might be worth booking at busy times as it is quite lively and seems to be a popular pub.

The nicest site we have ever stayed at. Really laid back, but everyone respected each other and the site. No noise after about 10ish (may get later as the nights are lighter). Toilets cleaned several times a day, showers were ok would have preferred a separate dressing area and maybe a plug or hairdryer (had EHU so it didn't matter).
EHU is on a first come first served basis so we took it just in case, arrived about 5pm on Good Friday and managed to get a pitch with one on! looking around the site there were still a few left. Pitches are not allocated so you get to choose a nice spot to suit, ours was huge which gave us and the dog a huge 'garden'.
Views are outstanding, although was too relaxed to go for a walk up the hill! The warden/owner is lovely, seems to do everything, he drives around in his red 4x4, picks up litter makes sure everything is ok directs traffic etc, his laid back nature made it a lovely weekend

It does seem a bit strange as you drive in as the show caves are on the same site and the first part of the campsite looks a bit like a car park. However there are lots of little areas tucked around and the hardstanding for cars means that the tent pitches stay fairly mud free. There is no warden or site office as such but the warden is usually around and he was very helpful in pointing us towards a secluded pitch right by the river. There are also several adults only quiet zones which is good.

The toilets and showers are clean and at only £10 per night in the high season for 2 adults it is very good value. We only stayed one night as the weather wasn't great so we didn't really get a chance to look around. However there seemed to be direct access to lots of walks in the surrounding hills and the area is very picturesque. There are also several pubs close by and a small shop on site. We enjoyed the campsite and it was lovely to be able to camp right next to the river. Shame about the weather but that's the joys of camping!
