A small, pretty site that unfortunately had a number of niggles that, on their own would have been acceptable, but I am afraid there were too many on our stay. Despite the site's T&Cs stating that it didn't allow single sex groups - that's exactly what they did do- several campers were kept awake by their noise and foul language. When a fellow camper asked the wardens about it, their response was that there was nothing they could do once the group of lads arrived? They advertise a football field, but that is only available as long as there isn't a rally on the field. Our families had been using the field (when empty)for football and rounders (as had other families). However, when a rally came our children were told to get off the field, which left them with nowhere to play as they had been previously told by the wardens that they weren't allowed to play on a large grassy area by our pitches. The owner then told us that the grassy area was a recreation area that the children could play on it? The owner also suggested that the children play on some scrubland adjacent to the pitches that had been ploughed up and was used as a dog exercise area. The showers in the new block only last for seconds, so you have to keep pressing the button to get any water. We used the showers in the old toilet block which were a little better. The hand dryers in the toilets didn't work and when this was pointed out to the cleaners, we were told that they hadn't worked for a while and that the owners were aware of it. The toilets were clean.
The walk to the beach takes a good 20 minutes and wouldn't be fun with young children and beach equipment.
The site was kept neat and tidy during our stay.
The Polgooth Inn is well worth a visit, serving excellent food and with lovely friendly staff.
-----------------
Whilst I stand by the comments I made about our experience with the campsite, I have to say that the owner has since taken the time to write to me about our issues. A lovely response from the owner who has reassured me that he took our concerns seriously and that he has either, taken steps to put right things that were not working, or changed literature to make sure everyone is clear on what is on offer at the site. Well done and thank you.

Loved this campsite (family with young children)
Loved this site, lovely, helpful staff. Clean facilities, the on-suite bathrooms large & perfect for families. Near to many family friendly destinations for days out. Large pitches. Safe feeling.
Disliked: Maybe there could be a couple of bits for younger children in the play park?

Taken over by the same family who own River Valley Holiday Park just up the road. They certainly know what they are doing - the old campsite here was very run down. Squeaky clean pleasant facilities with hairdryers and hand dryers. Liked the idea of the 4 shower rooms which each contained a large shower cubicle, toilet and basin in the ladies side- don't know about the men's side, all in a wooden building. Ideal for families. There are also ample ladies toilets and a further 2 showers in an adjoining block though I believe the owners have more plans to upgrade the wooden building. There's a laundry room and rotary airers and outdoor wash up facilities. Water always hot though not many people on the site. They have certainly put a lot of thought and effort into the site and I thought the charges were modest - from £8 a night. Small children's' play area, though there did not seem to be any open space for energetic ball games! Choice of hardstanding or grass pitches, most seemed to have ehu. Grass mown regularly and cuttings collected up, not left to be trodden everywhere. Bins emptied regularly, pleasant shop/reception - guess will be better stocked when the season gets going. Lots of leaflets and info in shop. Can freeze own ice packs in their freezer in the shop or borrow some of theirs. The family and small staff are all very nice and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Would say the site probably better for caravans/motorhomes as it is placed alongside the busy St Austell-Mevagissey road and I found it quite noisy in a tent - I was there just after the May bank hol at a quiet time. Handy for The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project and numerous beaches.

First time here and loved it. The owners and their staff who own/run it were really helpful and the site is a credit to their hard work. Spotless all round with ample water and waste points, pitch sizes etc. A small river, adjacent to the site, full of elusive trout kept me busy as well as the cycling and walking. Decent food and beer at the Ship inn down near the fantastic beach which is through the woods. As the weather was changeable we had a couple of nights up in St. Austell (cracking wetherspoons pub, cinema) and in Mevagissey (few pubs and restaurants but nothing else). Only negative was some traffic noise but not enough to ruin your holiday. Worth a visit just to experience the local bus drivers who were doing their own version of the cannonball run !
Will def. Return when it's warmer.

A great, quiet family campsite!
With a relaxed approach, often missing from some sites I've visited previously, the staff were really helpful and the reception warm and welcoming. The facilities were more than adequate and clean, and the small shop provided the essentials.
The little things made the biggest difference; washing powder, baskets and lines, kids toys to borrow and a huge field to play in.
Access to the cycle track was easy and provided a great off road connection to local amenities. Equally, only 10mins out of St Austell meant you weren't far from larger shops etc.
All in all, a great base to explore this lovely area

My partner, myself and our 2 rather large dogs (a deerhound and a rottie) pitched up at Little Winnock for a week. We had a very warm welcome from reception which also doubled as a shop selling basic items, we were also asked if we wanted to order a daily paper or loaf of bread. We pitched up on a grass pitch it had hook up but we didn't use it the pitches were of a good size and we did not feel cramped at all. It also had WIFI at very reasonable rates.
The toilet/shower block was very clean and served its purpose adequately. There was plenty of dustbins and recycle bins and also a good sized washing up area, there was also a really good little laundry with auto washers and tumble dryers. Also had a couple of rotary washing lines.
There was a good sized field for dog walking adjacent to the site and it was also great that the cycle track was immediately behind the campsite so there was lots of good walks in woods which was great in that baking sunshine. The play area was very popular with the little ones. We were also within walking distance of the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The owners and the wardens were so nice. The site is a ongoing project so I cant wait to return to watch it grow even better. We will be using this site again it was a great base for exploring Cornwall.

My husband and I really liked this family run touring site with the friendly, conscientious and knowledgeable staff. It is in a great position for lots of lovely beaches, the Eden Project, Heligan and not too far to travel to places like Padstow and Port Isaac. A little river runs alongside which my husband enjoyed fishing each evening with some success. We both enjoyed cycling on the level pathway through the woods to Pentewan and the lovely off road cycle way up to Heligan and on to Mevagissey with its long descent down into the little town and harbour. We will be returning in September to do the other routes nearby, it was so nice to go places on the bikes safely. The site facilities were clean with nice big shower rooms and plenty of hot water and all pitches nice and flat with areas of landscaping across site. Excellent off peak value with 7 nights for 5 was a nice welcome bonus. The family took over the site early this year and opened in May and with all their plans for the future this site will be even better next year. This site is recommended being relaxed, friendly and in a great location.

We stayed here over May Bank holiday and half term. We had stayed a few times before it was taken over, we cannot get over the difference the new owners have made. Our kids LOVED the new play area and the chickens - the whole site was so spotless - we have already booked for the summer holidays. For us the location is brilliant as we can walk to the beach or jump on the bikes. It is so good having the shop open daily again with papers, milk and warm fresh bread. Cant wait until August!

We have just spent a lovely week at Little Winnock. This was a very family friendly small site with very helpful staff. It has recently been taken over and the new owners have done lots to improve it. There is a great new wooden children's play area and the new shower block is great with young children as have toilet and basin in each large cubicle. There is a small shop which sold fresh bread, eggs etc.
The site was kept clean and tidy with good laundry and washing up facilities.
The warden was happy for us to leave the van on site on the day of departure so we could enjoy the sunshine.
The location of the site is another bonus as it was on the Pentewan cycle path which was a flat easy ride to the beach along the river and through the woods. We will be returning to this site again soon.

We spent a couple of nights here and it was perfect for us, a real no frills site! We had tried to call to book but no answer, drove past and saw it was very quiet so popped in on the off chance and were welcomed by the owner who was out and about on site, obviously why he was unable to answer the phone.
Told us to pitch where we wanted to, loads of space. We paid £18 a night for 2 adults and a child which was ok. There is no longer a pool, and the site itself isn't the fanciest.
The shop is rarely open and the park really needs removing or updating, an accident waiting to happen. However there is a newish shower/toilet block with 4 showers/toilet units on each side, never a wait and they were kept fairly clean.
From the site it was an easy walk to the pentewan trail and on to the beach (about a mile) and on a hot day we enjoyed a stroll through the kings wood.
So if you are looking for a spacious and basic site this could be the site for you, if you're prepared to take the risk and not book, just turn up.
