July 2005 We stayed at this site the last week of July. We found the pitches to be very spacious and level, and the showers and toilets were kept very clean. There was a nice play area for the children and a large grass area available for ball games (although at peak times this would become smaller as it reverts to pitches!). The pool was clean and not a bad size (although my husband would have liked it warmer!) The onsite shop was very basic but there are several large supermarkets around St.Austell. With the Cycle Track on the doorstep it is well worth taking bikes: a flat route down to the beach at Pentewan. But a far more exhilirating route to Mevagissey or the Lost Gardens of Heligan - yes, it does involve a hill but I managed it and so did my 7 year old son! We would definitely return to this site.

August 2005 We have just returned from this site after a two week stay.
The site has its good and bad points.
We were given a choice of two pitches on arrival. All the pitches were flat and marked out with their own number. The owner personally shows all new arrivals to their pitch. On reflection we probably picked the wrong pitch as we found those pitched behind us would use it as the route to the toilets/showers. The sound of flip flops walking past in the morning would frequently wake us up.
Even though we were not pitched by the road, the sound of cars passing by was quite noisy. When packing up we had people coming over to us from the pitches closest to the road asking if they could swap pitches.
The launderette was too small for the size of the site and consisted of only two washing machines and one dryer. It also dispensed its own washing powder which caused a problem due to my son having a skin complaint which reacts to many powders.
The cleanliness of this site can not be faulted. The showers were immaculate and cleaned every day, the swimming pool was probably the cleanest we've visted and the bins were never overflowing or full.
I found the shop lacking. The choice of groceries was very limited and at one point had none of the staple food of my diet left. (Chocolate).
The childrens play area did not hold my childrens attention for. It is probably suited more to the under 5s. (my two are 8 & 5)
The beach at Pentawan was gritty and not very appealing. It is also a fair walk from the site along the Pentawan trail. There are many beaches within dring distance that are worth making the visit to including Caehayes.
However, the Ship Inn at Pentawan is a must for everyone although it gets extremely busy. The food is reasonally priced, plentiful and very fresh.
Our family love the St Austell/Mevagissy area and return year after year.

August 2004 We spent 2 weeks at the site, and had a really good time, The owner is a bit of a funny bloke. and if you dont take things with a pinch of salt. You could sometimes consider him rude. He does make you wait. There was about 5 party's waiting for pitches when we arrived. And we all ended up waiting for quite awhile. But it was peak season. And he does seem to run the site single handed. So he can be forgiven for his off handness. The site is lovely and quiet.
We found all facilties to be very clean.
Everyone is quite friendly. The kids just entertained themselves, only very small park. And clean outdoor pool. Little stream at the back for fishing, which our son loved.
The tent pitches are a good size, plenty of space, and not rammed on
We also snuck onto the site across the road. Sun Valley, which was quite a small site, absolutely immaculate. And had a few bar meals there, excellant food, at reasonable prices.
One recomendation is go to the pub at the entrance of the trewiddle site. Which has an excellant roast dinner carvery on. At a superb price. Although the rest of the menu is expensive.

July/August 2001 Positives: Flat, good-sized pitches. Easy access to pleasant, short cycle path, leading through woods to village and beach. Nice family pub at Mevagissey (VERY busy in Summer). Handy for St. Austell, various beaches, Eden project, Truro (30 mins). Toilets and showers were modern and very clean. Nice pool. The shop was surprisingly well-stocked. No bar or clubhouse, so it was quiet at night. Sufficient room for the kids to play. Friendly, helpful staff.
Negatives: Pentewan Beach was gritty and not very appealing. Occasional cars passing noisily at night.
